Started to learn this piece yesterday, been playing piano for 5 months now and it's coming along surprisingly easy.
I learned so many new things by watching this video! Thank you so much for helping me learn this lovely piece of music.
I really love your videos, so full of enthusiasm and great tips. Thank you!!
I’m 27 years old and taking lessons for almost 2 months now. Starting to learn this piece today so thank you for the tutorial!

So did you really learned the piece after two months of piano lessons or not? Be honest please because I really doubt that any human can learn and play grade 3 piece in just two months..

I'm asking because I too started a piano lessons 2 months ago and I practice for 2-3 hrs a day and I just started to learn clementi arietta in c and this is prep b material and it's very hard so I just can not believe you mate, of course it has been two years since you wrote your comment so I can't prove anything..

Hey@@Mrfailstandstil, thanks for the question. Yes, I did learn it back then but to be honest it was a grueling process and way above my level at the time. I think it took me another 2 months to learn it all. Although I was very happy at the end, I decided no longer to try pieces above my level because it's frustrating and time consuming. I can learn a piece like this much quicker now but I only did it back then because I was overly excited to learn the piano and became "in love" with this piece. But yes, when you try a piece like this barely knowing anything about music theory like scales, chords, and phrasing, all you are doing is playing note by note and making it much more difficult than it should be and that can kill your motivation. Arietta in C would have been more proper for my level as you are doing. I have used Minuet in G as my warmup piece ever since. If you look in my channel, you will also see that I recorded the piece about 1 year after I posted the original comment because that's when I felt more comfortable playing it.

@@Mrfailstandstil no offense taken. I know what you're talking about. I don't like when people post videos showing how they can play Fantaisie-Impromptu after 1 year or less learning like it was a damn trophy. Good for them for the insane determination but it's not a race. It's a lifelong journey. It's supposed to be taken slowly. I won't even attempt something like clair de lune until I feel I'm ready (unless it's some easier arrangement) but I look forward to getting there someday. Now I probably practice 2-3 hours a week lol it's hard for me to be consistent with work and school. I was negligent this week with practice so I decided to catch up today. Practiced from like 2pm to 7 pm and it felt great. At your rate of practice, you will feel very confident with the piano in 1-1.5 years. Keep it up man. You're taking all of the right steps and it's exactly how it was for me. Just be consistent with your practice and it will work like magic. P.S.: my instructor just assigned me Spinning Song by Albert Elmenreich. It's the piece I'm working on right now.
I learned a lot. Thanks for the lesson. Excellent!
Thanks for helping on the timing for the mordants!
All my questions for this Menuet you have explained excellent. Really great. Thank you !! Best wishes from Cologne in Germany
Thanks for the video!!
Love the detailed discussion. Took piano lessons as a kid but didn't continue so I can play some and read but I haven't learned stuff like the mordent, etc. I just learned this piece and this opened my eye to things I missed. You just earned a new subscriber!

i learned this last year, great to see a good analysis. i also had not idea about he trills, my sheet didn't have them, but they are a nice touch.
great!
I remember when I first learned this piece. I LOVE the TRILLS in them which is why I did it. I play whenever I practice on my keyboard just to relax and sooth me. I have a request. Is it possible to see more cameo's of your cat.Thanks for your videos.

Thanks a lot for the explanations. Is it possible to explain the song with respect to music composition theory, may be just a few measures? I am a beginner and want to understand more about the song
❤
Hmmm, I really thought baroque ornaments like mordents are supposed to start ON the beat, not before.
The funny thing about this song for me was that when I was grade 6 or 7 (I did not take the tests, just going off the music I was doing at the time) and I still had a bit of difficulty with the G minor minuet.

Gosh you are so beautiful! 😍😍
Where is the precious lesson/video? I found this video incredible but need more help on "lower moderit"
I am current learning to play this. Does it have instructions for pedal? Or should I just use pedal in every section?
At what tempo should this piece be played?
I played a keyboard for the very first time today, that I gifted my dad on Jan 1st. Started out with this piece, and here I am studying the perfect tutorial.
great video my music sheet (from a 30 years old french book) has few different things, anyway been learning this for 2 weeks and can play both hands separately but i can't play both together it's super frustrating :/ any tips?
Hi! Your channel is amazing. Your teaching method, at least via a 10 minute or so videos is so great and you make this stuff easy to digest. Thank you for passing on the knowledge. I wonder, how did you progress with your grades? Was it like 2 years study per grade for example? Thank you!

The standard trajectory is about a year each grade (including preparatory levels), though I generally speed up the first few grades with adult students and do 2 grades per year, up until grade 3 or 4. For myself, it was kind of random - as a kid, I did grade 1 and 2 a year apart, took a break from exams for a couple years, then did my grade 5. Then I took another break as a teenager, and went back in for my grade 8 as a young adult, followed by 9 and 10 about a year and a half apart each. So there's no one right way.

Thanks for the reply, very helpful to know :D So you jumped from grade 2 to 5 to 8 (missing out 3, 4, 6 and 7?) ٩( ᐛ )و
I have a question. In the score I am looking at, the first mordent (bar 3, note 2), bach noted (321), and in the second mordent (bar 5, note 1), bach only and a 3 on top of the note. What is the difference between the 2? Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for making these videos! I'm 16 and I wanted to learn an instrument,so I chose piano. These videos are really helpful! Also I wish I was a pretty as you my god

What indicates the finger peddling on the sheet? :)
@tonynitzke
4 жыл бұрын
I think it is the rest symbol above the start of it.
For green eyes!
@11:48 you said you lift both notes on beat 3. But I believe you would keep holding the D, since it's a half note. Then you lift everything at the end of the bar before repeating the same pattern with C-E.
I wonder if your fingerings are correct. because you made different patterns at compasses 3 and 11 staring with finger 3 and 4 respectively to reach next to the lower mordent sorry one more thing is, since I reaching compass 16 (for left hand) I noticed you exchange the duration of the figures wich fits more nicely than original. But is this okay or a mistake?
Do you think this is the best fingering to play this piece? Is this the original style of play for this piece and can you even say that a fingering is original for these old pieces.
Thank you for the wonderful explanation. But I'm still stuck with a specific part of the piece, and that is the second measure in last line. The two quarter rests in the bass clef are confusing me.
Great!! Thanks for your explanation. I'm struggling with reading the second had part, because I know I should start with G,B,D but if I read the sheet it says E,G,B. Could you please explain that to me? Thanks :)
@tongpoo8985
4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you're reading the bass clef like youd read the treble clef. The notes on bass clef (left hand part) are always shifted down by two notes from the way they are on treble clef. So what would be an E in treble is a G on bass clef.
@julis8901

@@tongpoo8985 yes that was my problem. thank you so much!!
It's interesting how your fingering is different from the score you recommend. And it makes me wonder: how important it really is to follow the fingering exactly as shown in the score? I found some parts of this song to be MUCH easier to perform after carefully watching how you played it, so in these parts, I let go of the score's fingering and began following yours. Can you please comment on that?
@Matti_Mattsen
5 жыл бұрын
I'm going through this piece right now and the fingering is completely different in the edition peters version my teacher gave me. For example, the first mordent is 3-2-1, not 1-2-1, which is heaps easier and also more fluid. My teacher told me you'll likely get issues when you have faster pieces without the correct fingering.
@GabrielOliveira-golicar
5 жыл бұрын
@@Matti_Mattsen 3-2-1, really? Isn't it sort of awkward to use the 3rd finger twice in a row? I mean, you just hit the E with the 3rd finger, then you hit the C with the 3rd finger again, for the mordent? Could you please elaborate on that?
@Matti_Mattsen
5 жыл бұрын
@@GabrielOliveira-golicar you don't use 3 for the e before the mordent, you use 5

@@Matti_Mattsen Oh, I see. Now that makes a lot more sense!
Interesting! This song is the opening piece in the First Lessons in Bach book, so of course I thought it a Bach composition.
I think playing mordents and trills before the beat is not the original way of executing them. Way back in the Baroque period, they were usually played on the beat.
This is a different version to that given in Grade 3 book!
Can you answer this question please? So I'm 17 and I reallyy love piano.. but I'm scared that if I do a music university I won't earn enought money and all... I have a piano test to enter uni in 3 days but I'm still thinking about it :/ another thing I like (less than piano but I still like) is programming, which I now that earn a lot of money and it's easy to get a job. Could you give your opinion in this please? I don't know what to do. I know that money isn't everything but my family is poor so I would like to sustain myself at least.

Caíck Passarella my piano teacher says that she won't ever let her daughter do music as a job because it has no money. you have to get REALLY good if you want to make a good amount of money, and those people start at the age of 5. you can sustain yourself with being a teacher tho.

You have to be a really motivated go-getter to make good money with music - and a jack-of-all-trades. Teaching is my career, but I certainly don't make lots of money! Getting an mus/ed degree can be a good way to teach in the daytime and make an okay income. Many musicians I know can do quite well with regular performing too, if you're willing to sacrifice your weekends. Cover bands around here make $1000-2000 per show, and I don't live anywhere near a large city. So I mean, you CAN make a respectable living with music, but it's not for everyone - or even most people. I have some acquaintances who took a regular university course in another field of interest, but also pursued their credentials in the RCM (or ABRSM), which doesn't require you to go to any college. They have a day job, and teach piano part time on the side. You don't need a university degree to be a private piano teacher! Having a high RCM/ABRSM grade, and just a pinch of business savvy, is really all you need. Good luck with your choices!

What? This is grade 3? Why? Because of the ornaments?
8:03 did you really need to bang your keyboard like that ma'am?
