WHO WE ARE
We are a couple from opposite sides of the world making life together in a teeny-tiny 160 square feet.
Our current tiny home is a vintage Airstream trailer nestled in the woods here in the Canadian Pacific Northwest! We like to call her Streamy, our adventure basecamp!
Sounds dreamy right? Well let us tell you that it isn't as easy as it looks & the process of building our dream tiny home on wheels (in just 60 days) was a very difficult endeavor!
Watch the FULL build from START to FINISH here: • Vintage Airstream to G...
When we're not enduring these self-imposed suffer-fests (i.e. our DIY projects & long grueling hikes up mountainsides) you'll find us out on the ocean, living and sailing around the PNW on our little sailboat. She's a Catalina 30 and we've been enjoying the challenge of restoring her & teaching ourselves how to sail!

I (Allison, the Newfie) met James (the Aussie) while working on a remote island 3 years ago.

We decided to make some BOLD moves, hit PAUSE on our conventional careers & work full time, turning our DREAMS into reality.
This is the beginning of our KZread journey & over the next few weeks we will be sharing our first steps towards making full-time adventure possible.
We'll be posting weekly videos that document our DIY projects, tiny-home living & our land & sea adventures.

    Allison & James, you both had not only persevered through your struggles with a limited time period to create this minimalistic living space (with very limited experience) but you succeeded in making a beautiful home. There are a couple of things; that if I had been watching during the process, I would have suggested but regardless, you did it. And you did it WELL ! Returning to a simpler lifestyle is challenging in today’s world/society but for some of us it’s the end result that we’re striving for. Myself included. Not sure if you still have the Airstream for the “off-season” or if the boat is now the permanent home but you continue to inspire those who desire a life that is more in balance with nature rather than living in the proverbial rat-race. Now it’s time to see how your journey began with starting life as salty sailors. As always, wishing you both fair winds and following seas or gentle breezes and warm evenings in the comforts of the Airstream.

    Awe thank you so much for your kind words! A more minimal mindful and intentional life is definitely the goal. This is the first winter since the build that we're not in the Airstream, mainly because we've moved the boat further up North and wanted to be close to it to tackle the long list of projects ongoing this Winter/Spring before we set sail for Alaska. We're actually in the process of organizing towing the Airstream North to a new pad so that will be great if it all works out. Although we love being on the sailboat, we've found it's best to still maintain a land base :)

    Awe thanks! Couple years later and we're still really happy with how it turned out! Wouldn't change the design at all! We've seen folks do some fun color schemes and whatnot in theirs but we will say that gets old quick. The classic wood and white keeps it looking fresh open and airy and your eye gets to focus on the beauty outside. So glad you found this helpful for your own ideas!

    Great series of videos. You have stimulated my inner geek in doing a build like this. Question: How often do you need to empty the composting toilet and where do you dispose of the contents? Thanks!

  • @AllisonandJamesSailing

    @AllisonandJamesSailing

    4 ай бұрын

    So glad you enjoyed the series. Awesome that it has inspired you to take on a similar project! Gosh, I wish we did a video about the composting toilet, we've wanted to for some time.. we have lots to say about it! Maybe we will since we get asked about it regularly. With two people using it, we're dumping urine daily. We dump the solids every three weeks and clean the head. This is a really sucky job. No sugar coating it, it's a glorified bucket, so nothing composts in the head. The contents need to be dealt with proper in order to compost. Here we were on 5 acres of land and constructed a contained composting area dedicated to it. We dumped the contents and mixed in a proper ratio of earth etc A composting head in this scenario is basically an outhouse that you cleanout regularly yourself. Really not an ideal option for folks roving around despite popular media.. Hope that sheds some insight, cheers!

    Love your house! Earlier in the build you mentioned building a queen size bed but ended up with a double. Could you share the thought process on the switch and whether the queen bed would fit with your design? I ask because I'm renovating my '65 Airstream Tradewind and want to get a queen bed and a wet bath in there... I really love your design! It's my favorite of all the renovations I've watched on KZread and the size of your system is very close to mine.

  • @AllisonandJamesSailing

    @AllisonandJamesSailing

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much! Oops we may have misspoke! We already had a double size mattress, so we built our bed area to those dimensions (didn’t change anything along the way). You could totally make a queen size work, would just adjust the closet and wetbath dimensions to compromise.

  • @AllisonandJamesSailing

    @AllisonandJamesSailing

    Жыл бұрын

    One complaint we have was that we made the bed area ever so slightly small, really have to squeeze the foam mattress in there and Allison’s feet hang off the bed a bit. So if we had our time back we would make the bed space a bit longer!

I'm in Grande Prairie county in northern Alberta now. Bloody cold hostile winters. If B.C. wasn't so expensive and didn't continually have such insane governments I'd move home again. The Thompson Nicola region I think. Love that desert country.

    Wow, this was one of your best videos thus far, with an awesome way of show-casing every aspect of the harvest of your labors. Consider one day to get a fixer "Airstream No. 2", take your time with fixing it, and use it for overflow storage, could open up a lot of storage potential and/or flipping income when you're ready to sell it. Your current Airstream is one of the best ones I've seen in terms of choices of materials and overall flair! Also must say that you two are about the chillest couple I've seen in a long time. Your children will be some lucky lads and gals! If you didn't have so much shade due to the awesome forestry I'd recommend putting together a solar battery generator from CALB cells (I've built two and am running two 5000 btu a/c's all day long, but it's in Northern California with excellent sun exposure). Keep enjoying the journey of independence!

Funny you've found the Airstream series haha Not the first refit, but the first we filmed in detail. We had fun building the vans. Looking back they're so much simpler! But they just can't take you where boats can, and nothing beats moving with the breath of the wind!
