Love this car man, such a good job of it! Just grabbed myself a lovely 2005 Mini Cooper S with a Miltek Exhaust non-res love the sound, but this beats it straight up and makes me want too change it!

***** Yeah it makes a big difference in the sound. It really lets it clear its throat. It frees up a little bit of mid range torque as well.

I have way to much into mine but I've also had a lot of custom work done. You could put together a very nice package for like $3-4k. It handles unbelievably well though. My friend and I both drove it in an autocross event yesterday and it did extremely well

I figured you had quite a bit in it, but if I end up buying one I plan to keep it for years to come, so I'd probably end up throw too much at it as well. And I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks for getting back with me so quick man! I can't wait to get into one and feel what they're all about.

Just running a CEL right now but I plan to try to space the O2 sensor out a bit to clear the code. We'll see how it works.

Did you ever run into P0172 code problems with catless? I'm running catless and no resonator and am wondering if this is the problem. I've had my R53 in the shop too many times trying to figure out the problem. I've always assumed it was a pre-cat problem.

Lance Golden I believe I had a P0420 code when I went catless and was able to eliminate it by installing a Vibrant O2 simulator. If you're having a catalytic efficiency problem then I would recommend trying one of those.

Mike Baker I did install an O2 simulator. I haven't had any catalytic specific codes since installing it. The code is a System running rich in Bank 1 code. I'm just wondering if this setup may have triggered it, since I've checked every other sensor and possible vacuum leak.

Are you certain that both of the O2 sensors are working properly? I actually had to replace one of mine recently.

Mike Baker Yeah, I just replaced both the up and downstreams. I may just pick up a cat and throw it on and see if it fixes the problem. It runs fine, but I need to get through emissions at the moment. Lol. Thanks for the input, man!

AH! That's great. I'm glad to see your car coming together, its amazing. Your last one was as well. I was in the market for a r53 but there were no good ones available in the time I was searching. I sold my r50 and got a '15 GTI now. Still looking for a r53 on the side though!

jeff eddy the flex pipe needed to be relocated. other than that it has held up fine. The drone is actually very reasonable and I don't think the header adds to it.

Mike Baker I got an '06 with a muffler delete so it pops a lot but not backfire. you thing with a catless header it would backfire flames?

The catless header would certainly help but I noticed the biggest difference once I removed my center cat. That one catches most of the exhaust gases so once it's gone it really clears things up.

It did make it a little louder but adding resonators definitely helped. Not as much as a muffler but better than nothing.

Would you call that sound when the rpm drops a cackle or a burble?

They're both completely different cars. I prefer R53's over the R56 but many people feel other ways.
