R53 Mini Cooper S eBay Exhaust Review

The R53 Mini Cooper S is a great little car, but in the stock car, it is just too quiet. Though I was originally planning on doing the "One Ball Mod", the car's stock exhaust was just too rusty to save. Instead, I decided to install the aftermarket exhaust that came with the car for an extra $100. The previous owner was unsure what brand it was, but for $100, I didn't care. After unboxing it and do some research, it looked like a high quality eBay replica. Honestly, I don't care because it would get the job done no doubt.
Getting the hella rusty stock exhaust off was a huge pain, but the install was a breeze. Everything on this car is so small and easy to deal with compared to other cars and trucks I have had in the past. The car now sounds perfect. It's not too loud, but it has just enough noise to know it's a little bit more special than the average car. The pops and crackles are also a nice touch that I wasn't expecting. Easily one of the better four cylinder sounds I have ever heard. I would have zero reservation on recommending this design.

Such a good sound! Honestly so hard to find something in the same price/engine category that both has a nice burble, isn't too loud and doesn't just sound like a wasp

That's a helluva deal for a cat back system. Wish there was some kind of identification to the unit, I'd pick one up for the price of a one ball mod. Nice, cheers from SC.

Pretty much all of them will sound approximately the same. The main variable will be muffler size.
Sorry to continue but question.... Has your Mini been reflashed or anything to make it pop or is that strictly the exhaust. Typically only the 05-06 pop and crackle. Judging by the drive by whine i’d say no pulley yet and its all credit to exhaust.

I left them because they didn't rub anywhere, and I wasn't sure if I would need them. Turns out the exhaust is so much lighter that they weren't necessary. I'll cut them off if the exhaust ever comes back off

Was there anything on the exhaust to give any clue. Cuz that sounds great would love to grab one up myself

You'll just have to skim eBay for a system that looks similar. The links are always changing.
My ex boyfriend got me a r53 and he has a 350z, recently broke up but this video is very helpful. He was a car enthusiast and I was starting to like it but things went south. Looking forward for more videos that could help me make my cooper way better.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like I did have the spacers on by this point. I shot the sound clip way after the first half of the video.

It's a 2005, but the exhaust and the sound produced should be the same across all R53s.

@@350Z247 I'm considering an R53 now, and came across this article on the facelift changes: www.allmagautoparts.com/blogs/allmag-blog/r50-r53-facelift-changes-guide "The facelift Cooper S became well-known for the increased “popping” noises coming from the exhaust due to these changes." Pre-facelift seem to go cheaper. Trying to understand if I can achieve a matching sound with exhaust replacement.

@@CTPAYC2323 yeah, I'm not sure where the popping comes from as it's still there after a tune. I enjoy it but it's also a bit much at times. Aside from the popping, I would definitely recommend getting a 2005 or 2006 car. The differences are worth the added cost.

It came with the purchase of the car, and I've never actually found this exact exhaust. Any exhaust on eBay that looks similar to this design should work.
It sure sounds good. :) i did the one ball mod, that doesn’t sound as good as this.

350Z247 makes sense, i just bought my r53 and the previous owner changed the exhaust just before i bought it. I bought a 90° exhaust pipe and cut one of the two mufflers off and weilded it back together. It sounds good but not quite as good as your stainless steel exhaust. :)

Any R53 exhaust on eBay as best as I can tell. I received the exhaust with the car; so, I'm not entirely sure where they bought it.

These exhausts have disappeared on ebay. I've had one on my 02 R53 for several years.

@@350Z247 The one I purchased has bolt together flanges and fit together very well. Has very nice thick tips too. I think it was around $225 delivered.

Yeah it looks very similar, but the flanges are in a different spot. Likely a copy of the Miltech. I'm very happy with it.

Stock 02-04 is 160hp/150tq. Stock 05-06 is 170hp/160tq.

The driveway clip was shot while breaking in the exhaust and burning off anything left from manufacturing. The proceeding garage clip pointing at the tips and the drive by clips were shot much later. Notice at 6:47, there is no smoke.
It sounds like a fart in a tin can.
