MINI ALCOHOL STOVE AND POT STAND | SPEEDSTER STOVES REVIEW

I WAS NOT SENT THIS STOVE, I BOUGHT IT MYSELF. I AM NOT SPONSORED BY ANY COMPANIES AND DON'T DO SPONSORED REVIEWS.
In this short video (short video for me!), I review a brand new mini alcohol stove and mini pot stand that I recently purchased from a company called Speedster Stoves on eBay.
I have been using a small Trangia alcohol stove for a while now and love it, but I saw this and thought it would be an excellent ultralight option as I am slowly getting back into lightweight / ultralight backpacking because I want to continue doing more long distance walking and wild camping.
I was rather pleased with the stove in this initial test. I have since used it on a day walk in Kent, but that is for a future video, at the time of writing this.
Thanks and I hope you find the video of some use.
www.speedsterstoves.co.uk
This is from the actual website regarding the stove:
"This one is for the ultralighters who use mugs or ex beer cans to boil water etc. also good for narrow pans up to 100mm in diameter and capacity of less than 500ml.
Also useful as a "simmering" burner for use with larger pans.
Burner holds 18-20ml of alcohol (trapped in asbestos free medium) and will boil 330ml of cold water with approx 12ml of fuel (using an efficient pan and windshield) burns for 13min from full. 45mm diameter and 18mm tall.
Unlike other designs, no priming required. Just light and you're ready to go.
Will not flare or pulse like "jetted" pop can stoves, safe controlled burn from lighting to finish.
One of the most efficient meths burners available today.
I started building these burners because I was unhappy with what was available elsewhere, they have been tested in the field on many backpacking trips.
Ideal for solo backpacker, weighs only around 8g.
Always burn off any fuel before long term storage.
PS. People have informed me they are using the burner lid to snuff out the burner when required. This results in melted lid seals. You really don't need to do this, just blow the burner out. Another reason to choose our burners."

@@kevans2337 He does, indeed! I ordered mine from Gary's webpage, and it got here in a super quick time! I recommend buying the full kit, including pot, windscreen, and everything. It's designed perfectly, and works wonderfully! You will be surprised and pleased at the types of meals you can cook on the Speedster stove kit! Make a cozy for the pot, and you're in like Flynn! For the price, and super light weight, you can't beat this kit, period! By the way, I love the Trangia kits, too. But, the Speedster kit is SO much lighter, and packs much smaller. Excellent design, and it works perfectly. Once you get used to it, the Speedster kit is hard to beat!!

Tom Thanks for the review. A couple of pointers .😊😊 You can just blow the burner out, don't use the lid you can melt the seal. Even in still conditions a full wrap around windscreen helps efficiency, it acts like a chimney. You would have boiled your 400ml on one filling.

Wow mate are you the owner of the company?! That's mad! Yeah I only found that out about the lid after reading your website lol. Luckily the lid isn't damaged and yes it's working fine blowing it out. I've made my own wrap around windscreen from a length of cardboard covered in a few layers of tin foil and it's working great. Loving your products and I'll definitely be purchasing some others bits and pieces. Cheers mate, keep up the good work.

US user here, and I think the Speedster stove kit is a brilliant design! I've tried the entire kit, pot, etc. in the high winds of our American deserts, and they work a treat!! Gary is right, in that, with his windscreen/pot setup, the boiling time is much more quick, and and the Meths in the burner will last much longer. If you add a pot cozy, made to fit your pot, it's a real joy to use!! Great design, very light weight, excellent execution, and overall, it's the Dog's B's, in my opinion!! Cheers and God Bless!

Do you know what the filler material is? It looks like the pads that women use to whip off their makeup at night, but I would be surprised if it was that, because those are just cotton and would burn up after the fuel burned up. Could it be fiberglass mat? I want to DIY one because I have a shitload of airgun pellet tins that would make a great outer container, if I just knew what material to fill them with.

Been using those stoves 4 years . Love mine, really simple design and will last years . Very cheap to run as well . I use the 20ml ( same as yours i think ) i can boil 450ml of water in my Ti mug with one fill as long as i use a snug fitting windshield ( i modded a wafer thin Ti one ). A 30ml burner is available for bigger pots/cups Also you had the pot stand upside down . It gives better access to the burner the other way round. Stick with it , once you get it running efficiently it's great to use as i know 100ml of meths gets 5 boils . It helps if you can decant some meths into a smaller container, it's easier to dispense instead of pouring it in from a big bottle . Think something like a water bottle with a sports cap but much smaller. You can then squeeze the meths out through a hole to fill the burner. Anyways i hope you don't mind me offering you a few tips for its use .

Hi Tom - I think you have got the 30ml burner or maybe even the 20ml. I've sent for the 50ml for longer burn time - websit says 25 mins plus but I get about 15 mins so plenty for a boil. I also bought a folding aluminium base from Speedster which is handy for stability. His combined windscreen and potstands look good too - designed fit specific pots e.g. Alpkit, MSR etc or made to measure. Cheers Mike

This stove is a real gem. I bought one recently just to use for making hot drinks, cup a soups, noodles. It’s so safe in a tent porch because it’s no-spill, if you knock it over it won’t send a pool of burning liquid everywhere. Also, you can blow it out - try that with other alcohol stoves! Love this tiny wonder 🥰

Looks ideal for a brew kit, good for knocking up a mug of tea... Not sure I'd want to cook a boil in the bag meal with it, might take a few refills(2 to get the boil and probably another refill to boil it for long enough), but a dehydrated meal would be fine... It's super cute, super lite, excellent price, perfectly packable, jobs a good 'un. Cheers dude, James
