    I'm a newbie to this hobby and I'm in the process of gearing up and watching instructional videos from people like you. You're pretty much my favorite. I hope I can eventually wrap my 74 year old brain around the operation of my Equinox 800 on the beaches of Northeast Florida. Right now it's pretty overwhelming to me. I'll keep at it till it sinks in. Keep the excellent videos coming, please.

    IMHO, you should stop worrying about making your videos short or shorter, etc... Your content is relevant, informative, and delivered well. I find it to be professionally structured and quite enjoyable. So make your videos as long as they need to be to share information or experiences with your fellow enthusiast. I guarantee this will be much more appreciated than leaving information out or abbreviating for the sake of trying to appease naysayers with short attention spans. The chapter options you offer are excellent as well. Thanks for your efforts, and good hunting. REP

    I sold my Garrett AT Pro for one of these. The learning curve on the Equinox is so much more.... I know it's a better detector, but there's something to be said about the ease of use, even with experience. I didn't always get the best depth with the AT Pro, but I paid for that thing 3-4 times over. Few gold coins with it too. Need to get more time with the Equinox, but first few times out have been a struggle.

    I just graduated from a low end detector. I still use the Nox turn on and go. Without any adjustments it kicks a$$ over what I had and loved. Things like an extension cord over an iron manhole cover OL ed(over loaded) my old machine. This one tells it like it is presenting the difference of copper and iron. A buried crushed beer can at 14 inches in gravel and dirt. Even found a partially rusted away sewing needle about 6 inches deep that my carrot would not react to. That was hard to find. I was stubborn enough to find what it was signaling. I have yet to really know much about the machine but when I do it will be even better. Notice I have not mentioned coins or better? Where I have been is the reason for that not the machine.

    I don't attach the Velcro to the coil wire that way because I swap between a 6"-11" coil the coils don't include them I might try to find extras to use them your way. What I do is wrap them around the shaft so I can loosen them enough to pull the cable through until I buy extra shafts also then it will change again. But I do like your way 😊

    Incredible! Did I miss it or did you mention your height or whatever your thought process is for choosing the longest position for the forearm brace? I'm probably over-thinking it but I want to make sure my ergonomics are dialed in and right now I'm not quite there. Also, when in pinpoint mode and you say "right on it," does that mean that the target is dead center under the coil, about where the the pole connects?

    Hi Lawrence, Thank you for the view and great question! So a little story about that.... Many years ago I was detecting at an older county fairgrounds and at the base of a tree got a typical pull tab signal of 22 (back in the Etrac days) and sure enough it was a beaver tail pull tab. Got another 22 right next to it, was another pull tab, got a 3rd signal right next to those and I still to this day don't know why I even dug it?? I would have bet the farm it was going to be a 3rd pull tab, when it popped out I literally could believe it, it was a beautiful men's ring, an 18k gold wedding band! Luckily this happened to me like 20 years ago and it taught me a very valuable lesson. If you don't dig pull tabs your going to miss gold rings! So to answer your question besides gold rings, you could miss some older trade tokens too. Mayba a half dime or 3 cent piece if in an old enough area in NY. But if your just trying to find clad and silver only and want skip the PITA tabs, yes just notch them out. But you will undoubtedly miss some most gold rings and gold jewelry. Cheers and best of luck! Mark

    Where was this vid when I bought my Nox a couple years ago ? So wanted to wrap the machine around a tree then slit my wrists. Great refresher course. I have the monster too. Do you find the nox better for gold ? I've only used the GM1000 for nugs....And the monster is great for gold jewelry. Takes all the guess work out of the decision to dig or not. its either ferrous or not. All my gold has come up with the 1000

    Darn, I wish I could have made this video earlier then! I know what you mean, these incredible machines can really be intimidating and finicky. My Gold Monster 1000 literally paid for itself the first 3 times I took it out! When set up correctly that machine is absolutely money. Like you said, it's a dig, no dig system and takes all the guess work out. My only complaint is it lacks depth over the Equinox 800 with the 11" coil on deep nuggets. Best practice is, hit a patch first with the Gold Monster, then Equinox 800 then come back in low and slow with a GPX-6000 or SDC-2300 and lastly with the GPZ-7000! Of course that's like $20k worth of machines there. But that would be the best way to do it if you could afford it. I really do think that the Minelab Equinox 800 is the best VLF gold detector on the market today (Fall 2022). Thanks for the view and comment! Best of luck out there 🤠⛏️

    This is a sweet machine.. just so hard to know which one to buy. Save for the deus and be able to upgrade it and buy more pieces later on, or get a minelab.. idk, it would be so nice to get one for $200 and everyone was like yeh, that’s a great detector.

    This is a great question and a difficult decision for everyone in your shoes. I assume you're comparing that Equinox 800 to the original XP Deus and not the new XP Deus II? If so those are both machines that have been replaced by newer versions and the used sales Market is at about the same price on both. If that's the case let me know and I can give you some more advice but if you're talking about the new XP Deus 2 metal detector that is a whole different subject. Let me know what you're thinking about here and I'll give you some advice. Thank you for watching the video and for your great question. Happy holidays!

    I have seen them for sale on Detect-Ed but they now only sell the rubber upgrades. Check Steve's Detector Rods online, he sells spacers Model Number: EQACC-02 and I know the size you need in stainless steel would be 18mm in diameter, by 0.2 mm thick with a hole of 10 mm diameter. Hope this helps! Thanks, Mark 🤠

    Outlaw metal detectors sell a stabilizer that fits on the tab on the 800, which really adds extra protection for the tabs to prevent them from breaking off. They come in orange and other colors.

    Hi Mark. I bought the 800 to use in water. Due to the bad right ups I have avoided surf and lake hunts. Do you know if minelab has a fix for this or even where the leaks happen? Thx again

  • @BrassMedic

    @BrassMedic

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Lawrence, Thank you for the view and question! This is still an issue but from what I know after talking to Minelab is, it's mostly caused by swinging too fast or hard with the coil underwater, these hard fast swings put severe pressures on the handle area causing the seals inside the handle to flex enough to let water in. I'm sure it's still an issue but I would think Minelab learned a costly lesson with this oversight in R&D (just like the coil ears issue) and will be extra careful moving n with next gen machines. But to answer your question I don't blame you for being afraid, however I personally know many users who routinely swing this machine in and around water with no issues. They are all aware to move it slowly. Thanks again! Mark 🤠

    Thank you for the view and question. Honestly, one way to think about any modern quality metal detector is it is going to detect at least as deep as the coil is wide. For example if using the stock 11" round coil on the Equinox 800, it should detect at least 11" on a coin. This requires good, clean ground where the mineralization of the ground is not too bad. However on bigger objects (bigger than an aluminum can) it can detect even deeper. It's not going to hear many objects past 1 foot. There are other machines that can detect bigger objects at more than 1 foot deep. They are called two-box detectors. Thanks again for the view and question, hope you will subscribe and watch some of my incredible live dig adventure videos as well. Cheers, Mark 🤠

    This machine is absolutely fantastic on gold nuggets in fact I think it is better than the Equinox 900 or the Manticore on gold. The only VLF technology gold machine (currently being made) that can match the Equinox 800 in my opinion is the Gold Monster 1000. Thank you for the view and for your comment!

    Multifrequency gives your more depth than the 4 khz frecuency ?!🤯 I always eard the opposite, and I actually always use the Park1 or Field1 mode in 4 khz and the lowest velocity, and catch targets that i don't ear with other frequency mode

  • @BrassMedic

    @BrassMedic

    11 ай бұрын

    It depends on the type of metal to degree. A simple test in a garden of buried coins will reveal some interesting findings. The lower frequencies seem to do better on deep silver at the edge of detection depth, but even then, IF it can be detected in MF the machine gives a more stable ID and tone then the single frequency. It's the rule with all modern MF machines, modes that feature more lower frequencies will punch deeper into the soil but the eddy currents are not received back as prominent as higher frequencies are but this is not surprising as a 40kHz signal carries 10x more waves (to be received) than a 4kHz signal. On the contrary the small gold chains, earrings and fine jewelry are better detected on me des that feature more higher frequencies. I think what your commenting here shows that you already know this. But if I did not answer your question properly, please lmk. Thank you for the view and question/comment!
