The reason that dynamic lighting would be "too much of an impact" is due to the official implementation would likely also update the light levels of the world. Optifine's dynamic lighting doesn't do that.

@arbee_codes good point, perhaps however another issue is that if it's ONLY client side like with optifine, them when playing on servers , your hand held light won't brighten the area for other players. Making the game feel too unpolished for an official feature or something like that? Pretty much the only other counter argument I could think off, and I was trying to play devils advocate here

My main issue with minecraft and mojang is that they seem to (imo) always have lacked a cohesive vision for what the game was to be. In many cases this will develop as the game gets worked on pretty early, but it's been 12 years since the end of beta, and it seems like the game has less of an identity and thought behind it now than it had in mid-2011. While it's easy to say that it's because of nostalgia, beta was not perfect and lacked so much content. Despite this, you can excuse a lot of it because it was early on, and it's just so dissapointing to see that the game feels like it hasn't been improved meaningfully in a game-design way in over a decade. Yeah, they're adding stuff (at a snails pace), but that doesn't matter much when the game feels like a bunch of systems and ideas cobbled together instead of something that is supposed to work and be enjoyed as a whole. I feel like Terraria does this much better, where a lot of the systems shape up together to work across each other to improve the complete experience of a playthrough.

Terraria is really next level and built a sort of RPG style into itself. You have to kill certain bosses at certain times to then unlock different parts of the world (Dungeon, Golem) and/or weapons and ressources (Hardmode ores, the metal bosses, Duke Fishron...); The world completely changes after certain actions (Hallow/Corruption, Pillars)... And the pinnacle of the game: Cultists -> Pillars -> Moon Lord... I mean, wow! You must grind the game to get to the end... And then it continues with pirate invasion, Goblins, Santa army, Pumpkin moon etc. The visuals are amazing and the items all have logic (Vanity and add-ons) and development in themselves. You fuse them together to get a better item etc. It's fleshed out and truly an awesome game.

I think Vintage Story is a good example of what happens when systems are properly woven together and there is a cohesive vision. You basically have to interact with every system in the game to make meaningful progress and level up, and many of the optional ones will make your live 100 times easier (like mechanical power). The game definitely has a very specific vibe and direction to it, which, while it reduces mass appeal and makes it hard to have mods that fit well, gives it a very clear cohesive vision. I'm honestly kind of surprised how much Mojang has struggled to make even the most basic features fit in to the game. Every new Minecraft feature just feels like a random useless easter egg these days.

The difference is that the lead dev of terraria never left the program. Notch had a clear style and direction before he gave up. Without it, Mojang is just left to pick up the pieces. I would argue that a lot of those planned features Notch came up with showcase how much better his design is compared to modern mojang's.

Yes you can, at 8:00 you mentioned not being able to make the border slowly move, but with commands, you can. Spawn an invisible and invincible armor stand with a motion, for example, to the north. Then set a repeating command block to execute as that armor stand, (you can tag the armor stand if thers multiple in your world) to set the center of the border to that armor stand.

The custom painting feature would be uch a help... I got tired of normal MC paintings since they don't fit my server at all. In a fantasy/medieval settings, you don't want a giant hand next to a cake. So I had to replace paintings with a texture and since that was still not enough, I had to use maps. But that is kida demanding on the fps rate if there are too many "paintings" in the area :/ Plus map file of the world gets crazy full.

    - I remember when Notch talked about the clouds stopping at mountains - If I remember correctly, didn't he try to implement it, but it was too laggy or something? - Vertical redstone kind of is partially implemented using walls and an observer, or piston/slimeblock/redstone block (instant signal). - The scarecrow is also kind of partially implemented in that creepers are scared of cats, hoglins are scared of the blue mushrooms, and skeletons are scared of dogs. Zombies being attracted to villagers has always been the reverse of this. - One other item Notch thought about briefly were dirt slabs (way back in Minecraft Classic, or sometime later in Alpha). He also had "bumpy terrain" at one point, where blocks wouldn't be flat, but slightly raised or lowered - there was a screenshot of this long ago.

Technically you can move the playable zone with the worldborder with commands on Java but it would require to change the worldspwanpoint everytime you do so and automating it is extremely difficult. Although I don't have much experience with commands and command blocks in general. Not to mention that that is a Java only thing

You can set the center of the worldborder seperately from the world spawn, along with the fact that the world border doesnt have to be aligned with blocks. You could make a armor stand always set the world border center to its position and just move the armor stand around

Even those mods' implemenrations are actually taxing (or less taxing, but very hacky in OF's case) and not noticable predominantly for users who never needed optimization mods in the first place, i.e. KZreadrs with powerful PCs whose opinions are the most visible.
