NOTE FROM TED: This talk only represents the speaker's personal views and understanding of mindfulness. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/t...
Incorporating mindfulness into a day-to-day routine, even in small ways, can positively impact many aspects of life. Marie's life has changed for the better since practicing mindfulness and wants to share the practice with others so they can experience the joy that she has. In her talk, she uncovers some misconceptions about Mindfulness and helps the audience to understand Mindfulness correctly and practice it daily. Marie Ficociello is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator of the Echocardiography Program at MCPHS University. Marie has been studying and practicing mindfulness for many years. She is currently studying to earn two different certifications “Koru Mindfulness” and “Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction” to teach mindfulness-based programs. The goal of both programs is to teach people how to practice mindfulness on a daily basis to improve their quality of life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

She nails it. She's not wrong at all. I listen to others way better than I did before I started mindfulness 4 years ago. I disagree with her statement about losing weight. I think a better way to put it is it will help you get to and keep a healthy body weight.

Yogis and monk were practicing meditation for thousand years. Their understanding of mind and body is astonishing. To come up with yoga and meditation as fix , they should have had deep knowledge of mind and body. More research should be done about them , may be their practices could have answers for many illnesses.

I tried this and found it to be stressful and exhausting. Its hard to force yourself to stay focused on one thing all day.

You don't have to be mindful on one thing for the entire day, I can definitely see why that would be stressful! Rather, I'd say that mindfulness is a skill that is most helpful when you notice you're getting lost in thought, or overwhelmed by your worries.

@@vivianemarra4252 you're probably right. I'm a Christian. That always gets in the way of New Age stuff.
