Mind over Matter: Why You're Capable of More Than You Think | Paneez Oliai | TEDxGeorgetown

Paneez Oliai discusses the importance of reframing our thinking in overcoming obstacles. She discusses the value of changing our thinking in order to change our reality. Paneez Oliai (COL ‘23) is in love with people. Studying History and Psychology with a minor in Government, she spends her time learning about and from the people she encounters as an award-winning speaker, mentor, and speech critic at the Philodemic Society; as the Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown University Undergraduate Law Review; and as the first host for Georgetown University’s production of Survivor. Having worked with judges, defendants, and non-profit organizations in her quest to improve public access to justice, she is grateful to have witnessed firsthand the immense potential within each of us. In her free time, Paneez is an avid cook, mushroom forager, and reader of Vonnegut, Bradbury, and Dostoevsky. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

The idea that makes most sense to me is that we are basically a consciousness that is neutral by nature but can go in absolutely any direction aka you can be absolutely anything you choose to be.

@@Im-not-a-troll Think of it in the fluid sense- you can choose to be predatory like a shark, brave like a superhero or soaring like an eagle, choosing to transcend over negativities. It’s all in the mind, the actual ‘matter’ is immaterial 😊

“Sometimes, the boundaries between the body and the mind are blurred.” Not only sometimes, they are one and the same (perception), the body is one and the same with all life (microbiomes), and life is one and the same with everything (the elements that make up life are forged in supernovae)!

Omg, I’ve been connecting the disconnected my entire life and I feel like “Am I the only one having this kind of thought?” I question my own way of thinking and now I’m grateful with the way I think. Thank you for your brilliant speech.

This TED talk was great but, it sounds like TED Talk by Tim Urban, Inside the Mind of a Master Procrastinator. I don’t know which was made first but that talk was great to.

Fear not. Worst climate predictions haven't come true and it is impossible to treat climate as strict science cause it can't be replicated

A speech like this, amazing as it is, and that's the comment you come up with? Very unprofound and ineffective.

I agree with @crystalrith7296! Also, it’s completely false to say that climate change predictions haven’t come true. Have you seen the polar ice caps??? In case you haven’t, they are melting rapidly which is causing our oceans to rise and is affecting animals and ecosystems around the world. This is just one of the numerous ways our planet is being affected by greenhouse gases and climate change so denying it is extremely dangerous and selfish.

You can't hold a tape measure to the surface of the sun, or take a field sample of it for analysis either. Yet, we know how far away it is, what it's made of, and a good idea of how much longer it will be here. The Cascadia faultline has been due since the 1700s when the last major quake left the tectonic plates under great stress. It's not a question of whether or not radical changes in the climate are going to happen, or whether or not the pnw will experience a megathrust, the only variable is the when. Human lifespan isn't more than a fleeting moment to celestial bodies. Either of these things could happen 200 years from now and be considered fashionably late, if not punctual.
