@@HowtoAutomotive,
I've had the right angle impact for about a month now and it has already proven its a game changer. I've been able to get at difficult bolts that I could never get to with a gun style electric impact before, and that the ratchet wasn't able to break loose so I'd have to get out a dedicated breaker. I personally think both tools are quite valuable to have in the arsenal. Ratchet for engine bay and tighter smaller stuff. Angle impact for suspension, brakes, subframes etc. where you could benefit from an impact, but a big gun might not fit due to suspension components and axles and so forth being in the way.
@legros731

Ratchet can break loose any bolt just use your muscles if you need a breaker bar the right angle impact with 220 lbs of torque will not work
@ItsJust2SXTs

@@legros731 on rusted bolt impact are better to bust them than using a breaker bar, sometimes it's end up snaping a M18 bolt with the bar but yeah 220 is weak compared to gun style impact. I'm not sure you can apply that much torque on the ratchet by hand... Maybe they will come with a new gen with more torque

Great comparison.
I main line tech for a mom and pop and I have sold off every snap-on electric I used to own for Milwaukee. 2 year warranty compared to a 1 year, fewer failure issues. They are phenomenal tools, and with the exception of weak detent balls, I have no complaints. Both tools he featured are incredible. The right angle impact has no trouble ripping off every crank bolt I've put it on and the long neck ratchet is identical to snap-on's with a better trigger mechanism and no retarded friction plate failures. Good review, I agree with his assessment, buy both you'll want them.
I use both but to only get one first go with ratchet.impact is a beast when called for.
now i ordered both... thanks :D
Very well done!
A cant wait for a straight angle impact ratchet!
It would be amazing if down the line Milwaukee can come out with an impact ratchet with a smaller head about half the size of the current one. Either way, great tools! Cheers!
Thank you for this! I think the extended reach would be most of use for me as a DIY guy. Although, I'm sure as soon as I buy the extended reach, the next thing I need to do would benefit from the Right Angle Impact instead. Murphy's Law always gets me!

I'm so undecided i definitely think the impact ratchet would help on brake jobs (ie caliper bolts) where not even the stubby impact can get in....but then again I've come across caliper bolts(more than I can count) that not even a pneumatic 1/2" impact would take off and end up having to get the ol trusty breaker bar out...ugh I need a go fund me for my tool habits 🙄
thank you for this video!
I had the ratchet I sold it to a buddy and bought the impact… it’s awesome… there both good…
Right angle seems good for certain fasteners, but not for most. I'll probably get the stubby, I already have the regular 3/8 ratchet and it is pretty good.

Great comparison. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Right Angle Impact. But your video and the one from a torque test channel (where they found that it is only making 114 ft/lbs running torque, 140 MAX after 15 seconds), combined with the relative bulkiness of the head convince me to stick with my ratchet. I can easily surpass 140 Ft/lbs of torque by using the ratchet manually. I will probably rather buy the extended reach one (mine is the old short one) along with stubby sockets to increase my reach and usability. Thanks for the great video!
I was trying to find out if I could use the angle torgue manually to loosen a nut. This definitely helped

@SecretSauceyjuice

It's a little end-heavy, but there is no substitute for being able to get into weird little tight areas that a gun style impact would never fit. Even the stubby. That said, if you already have a stubby that can get MOST places...the 3/8 ratchet might be the better option. Kind of depends what you tend to work on and where the pain points are for those brands and models.

The m12 is a little heavy but when you are craving your arm into some bs position you can turn a ratchet in well you'll be glad you have it. I bought the 1/2” impact, helps with tightening steel fasteners and breaking stubborn nuts, the long reach does look good, but i think power is most useful when its needed over hand turning a ratchet, although im interested in how much movement per tooth there is… if its a fine or coarse ratchet.
Seems like the ratchet is the better option. In tight spaces the impact didn’t fit anyway. The areas the impact was needed, you could just use a regular impact gun. I’m glad I watched this, cause I was gonna get the impact ratchet, but I think my 1/2 gen 2 impact gun along with the ratchet is the way to go
3:36 Maybe use a deep socket or extension?

Can’t find the use for this, i have the a 1/2 fuel ratchet and 1/2 normal impact wrench already. The head of this one looks like it’s too big to be used in tight spots like the brakes for some cars. My 1/2 ratchet barely fits in there with shallow sockets.
If you work on rust belt trucks and gotta remove bs in tight spots I like the milwakee right angle impact. I'd say screw the extended head one is redundant. If you can fit the big ratchet in there you might as well just get the impact out and save yourself the wrenching. I'd grab the shorty ratchet and get the impact 1/2 inch for stuff you need the reach
Get both, because their used in different functions.

Lol. I wanna know that too. You are a smart one.
I got both 😆
I received the 1/2" and used it, it failed, only removed one bolt. I returned and exchanged for the 3/8" model, I used it today on a Cummins ISX CM-871 to remove the oil cooler housing. It runs the entire length of the motor, and is darn close to the frame rail, 20 16mm fasteners in all. My 3.8" stubby was not much help. So, I went out to the car, just got that thing from HD the other day, still in the box... Unwrapped it, through in a Chinese knock off 6 amp battery and slapped on the 3/8 to 1/2" adapter and 16mm impact socket and went to town! This 3/8" right angle removed all but one bolt. Instead of using a gasket on that housing, they loaded it up with RTV. Each bolt was covered in the stuff, every hole was full. The last bolt, the one it could not remove, was a real bugger, I used my 2 foot long 1/2" ratchet on that one, and it was really gummed up with RTV, I could see why the right angle would not remove it. Saved my bacon today time wise, it is a keeper! But, what get's me, is why are the 3/8" version is seemingly more powerful than the larger 1/2"? They are identical other than the anvil, must be some sort of physics thing I guess...
3/8 extended.
Wondering if the extended reach has any more body strength for pushing and pulling than the standard version. I haven’t been impressed with the standard version.

I broke the head on two on the standard ones then bought a fuel.... THEN the extended reach came out.
The ratchet is actually gigantic. Didn't know that😳
My only issue is that this video was meant to help me pick between the two....but now I just want them both...
they are 2 different tools, there just both "right angle" . The impact is meant to break fasteners free. The ratchet is not. It has 50 lbs of tq to fight against binding, rust and nylock type resistance all the way down the threads . Pulling a Subaru trans back off the engine 3 - 4 inches to do the clutch is fast, and with the (right angle impact) things like flywheel bolts come off without having to hole the crank, etc...
I want both

Let's be honest there's going to be angles that the m12 stunning just can't get into and the right angle will. The m12 stubby right angle extended reach ratchet and m18 1400 lb impact wrench are must haves.
If you can only afford one at a time, which one would you get?
Right angle
3:48 swivel would help
One needs to know what applications each tool are technically design to shine the most in it's preferable areas of choice because both tools are not the same in no shape form or fashion even though they appear to look similar . A impact wrench and a ratchet is completely different but the impact picks up we're the Ratchets lack in power when on removal the ratchet has two features but lacks the power on a removal in which the impact can meet some of the desirable needs of removing fastners but not all it still has it's downsides as well

@@HowtoAutomotive good to hear. Thanks 👍
If the right angle impact delivered close to 400 ft lbs like the air versions, I’d say it’s a borderline must have. As it is around 220, I do have it and like it very much, but its uses are a bit more limited. The long neck battery ratchets however are awesome. The only real alternative to them for getting into tight areas I’ve found is the ultra slim reactionless air ratchets, but even then, your hand has to fit down in there with the ratchet. Granted the Milwaukee Fuel 3/8” has kind of a fat head, but in reality, the long neck makes up for it. The head itself shouldn’t be too much of an obstacle.
For my applications the impact works better than the ratchet. I change meters/pipes in manholes and while the head of the impact is larger, the power of the impact also allows it to be used to loosen as well as tightening to spec. I also can use the impact with bolt extractor sockets. Also this guy in the video is using the wrong battery for the tool. It needs a 4 am or a 6 amp period. Much more power
@HowtoAutomotive
3 жыл бұрын
That’s what’s great about Milwaukee they make a tool for all kinds of applications. The right angle is designed to work with all of the M12 batteries. The purpose for using the 2.0 battery was to show how tight of a spot you can get it in.
@jerrelCbanks
3 жыл бұрын
@@HowtoAutomotive true, but that's kinda like putting a 3 amp battery on a hackzall yo showcase the compactness, and when you compared it to the ratchet it wasnt a fair comparison because the impact gets more power from the larger batteries while the ratchet gains zero benefit to adding the higher battery. No offense you're definally not the only video that did this, so I expect it, but the difference is definitely noticable and I'd wager to bet that with the larger battery you woupdve been able to get many of those bolts off that you couldnt with the 2 amp.
👍👍👍
Old fashioned method for stubborn bolts get a box end and a dead blow hammer. No need for the fancy nonsense. The 3/8 long handle ratchet is a better buy over the right angle impact.

Both íf I can afford
The 90 degree impact is cool but until it's the size of a normal ratchet/electric ratchet it's just not reasonable. Also half the test bolts you did you could fairly easily use a normal impact gun or the 3/8 electric ratchet. And lastly not being able to break a bolt loose is what makes it a no go for me.

Using the extended ratchet to break a suspension bolt loose like that is just asking to cut the life down and kill the ratchet sooner. That is an example of not using the right tool for the job. Re it works and gets it done but an impact of some kind should be used anyways. Plus they are both great tools I don’t have the extended version but I have the standard fuel ratchet and the right angel impact. They both are great and both have the place in the shop.
