Upgraded from an older 18v kit. kzread.infoUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

In recent years I've become disabled and weak in the arms. I used this tool to do a brake job to get to those fasterners in the tight spots. I don't have strength to lever a spanner but this thing gave me the ability to blast off those bolts in seconds. Between the stubby and this unit the brake assembly was off in less than five minutes. For me this thing keeps me independent and not needing to use a mechanic in the long run saving me money also. For me this is a God send.

I replaced the wheel bearings on my accord yesterday, I was kind of sad that I no longer have the strength and my arms were even hurting. But the key is using tools to avoid injuries. In reality, this is how humans should use tools to their advantage. No need to use brute muscle force. For those new mechanics, just save your joints and let the tool do its job.

The absolutely best feature is the #4 position which gives you fantastic capability. It goes full bore until the fastener breaks loose and then slows way down and in tightening it stops when the bolt or nut bottoms so that you don't overtighten. These features are the bomb.

If you want max.. you need to use the battery reccomend which is a 4 or 6ao.. it actually goes well over their claims in torque on the nut busting end. ;) I use it with a 4ao primarily and it suits me just fine.. sometimes I'll throw on a 1.5 but there's an obvious and dramatic power difference. Especially when the cells start dropping and man.. they drop instantly on that 1.5 lol but sometimes you need the power in a tighter spot and don't feel like wasting time on an actual ratchet .. busting knuckles while breaking bolts loose is overrated. People complain about its power on each end.. I'm not afraid to let it set on there and cook for a few seconds lol.. I love this tool.

It makes sense. I believe that torquing something at over 150lbs in an engine is ridiculous but breaking a nut over 200lbs comes in handy. You wouldn't need anything at that high torque for what the tool is designed for. Tool is amazing.

I grabbed 2 batteries 4.0aH, and right angle angle grinder initially. Returned the grinder and grabbed this tool yesterday. Was a steal, $110 less than home depot price

Milwaukee understands the fuck up that this tool can create if they gave this impact a fastening torque of 220 foot pounds. Trust me. You don’t not want to snap a 14mm bolt in a brand new egr cooler. This is why the fastening torque has to be less than removing torque especially for these wrenches.

Used this for a couple of months with the 2.0 battery... My recommendation is use this with a 4.0 at the least and 6.0 if you can.

It definitely likes to chew through batteries, and the higher Ah battery keeps the tool from dropping off, power-wise, when the battery drops to 2-bars (~50%). Thanks for watching and commenting.

I have that tool, and I do half to say overall the M12 Fuel tool is pretty bad ass. I use to be a mechanic, and I believe ever different tool 🔧 has a purpose for a certain kinda of job. And as for me that tool 🔧 is great for changing out my disc brakes on my BMW, and also to get into hard places under the car. When bolting or un bolting. Overall the tool is AWSOME! Finally Milwaukee has improved in there products, I use to be a Craftsman's tool 🔧 guy but Milwaukee has kinda got my attention in performance and productivity. But overall great honest review. 😊👍

I just got this and the 3/8 ratchet from my snap on guy, love them both

I ordered a Milwaukee 2564-20 3/8"-drive and a 6.0 AH battery last week for automotive work. I plan to use it exclusively in Drive Control (mode-4), pairing it with my Precision Instruments (M2FR100FX) 3/8"-drive torque wrench.

Great video! would you test this to the max amount of torque like you did for stubby? with 4 or 6 AH battery, etc

Just bought one! Fricking Fantastic! I don't have any Mack truck bolts on my car. If I wanted to work on a Mack truck, I'd use truck tools.

What I'm getting from this review: tool isn't winning any torque contests, but will sure make small work quicker, more efficient. And that can only be a positive.

I use this thing for anything and everything. Alternators, power steering pumps, brake calipers, bell housing bolts. You name it. I call it the magic wand. It's a game changer.

I really like the idea of having the right angle impact but I see a lot of people saying that they use their impact ratchet more, especially the extended reach ones. If I did brake jobs and only brake jobs I’d get the right angle, but I like the versatility of the ratchet more, even if I still have to do some of the manual work.

Great review as always. On a side note if you don't mind me asking, what watch do you wear cause I love watches?

I know this video is older, but when going right angle impact i landed on the kobalt. The head is about the same size, its only longer with the 24v battery hanging off the butt. Ridgid also has an 18v, but honestly for the price (149msrp, regularly on sale for 99) and the fact its under rated and over delivers, makes me appreciate the tool more

I didn't think this tool (which I own) would be capable of it as the stubby is so much more powerful. But as another video of yours showed the stubby isn't 30 pounds more powerful but 130 foot pounds more powerful. I do use this tool often but not if the stubby fits

didnt realize stubby was that much stronger. I just picked this up today, already have the stubby. Got this for 120 off marketplace brand new so cant complain haha. Ill be giving it a shot next break job.

Loosening a bolt you are dealing with more than normal torque .. You need that extra Nut Busting Torque when it comes to Rust.. Especially with a older Vehicle.. Tightening a bolt back in you need less torque to get it to specs.. Torque wrench is used to do the rest.. Good tool..

i have one haven't used a lot but so far really like it

The 220 lbs nut busting with 160lbs nut tightening is so you dont over tighten any nut to the point of breaking or sripping threads.

Wrong, that's not a feature, it's just what you get with the torque supplied. Nut busting torque is always higher than fastening torque.

Sold! It’s on sale at the Dumpot for $179 with the 2.5 battery right now. I’m a plumber and I’m tired of not having an impact for consistently replacing these raggly pumps. I’m sure it’s going to fit perfectly in my backpack. We have the stubby, but it doesn’t fit between some of these expansion joint flanges and check valves. It should work on 1 1/8 and maybe 1 1/4 with the 6.0ah.

This would be good to keep in your vehicle for changing a flat tire. I mean how many times have we had a flat tire and can't hardly get lugnuts loose, if at all. This tool would be a real time, shoulder and back saver. I'm seriously considering getting two for our trucks, even though we have AAA.

Ratchet is for small bolts if u strike it with impact might round up the small bolt when tightening.

I find with all these impacts, that they break away the larger nuts torqued higher than what’s claimed, but if you swap the socket for a thin wall and smaller nut they struggle more.

I agree with the thought that its tuned differently for tightening and loosening when you consider the fact that they advertise that the mid torque impact wrench is advertised as 450 tightening and 600 of breaking torque

The old mid-torqe is pretty equal in loosening and tightening. That's more of a play on marketing terms. 600 ft-lbs Nut-busting torque just means that it has enough torque to remove a nut that was tightened to 600 ft-lbs. I understand the need to verify Milwaukee's torque numbers but I think your results are adequate for most of us , like you said ,what size fasteners even call for those torque numbers. I know from experience that holding the socket to limit bouncing will help increase the torque especially in reverse.

Really wish dewalt came out with something like this..... gotta give Milwaukee props

1stable excelent video Have you done a review of the Kobalt 24v right-angle impact wrench?

As a hobbyist mechanic -- cranking on Jeeps and hot rods on the weekends, I find this to be one of my favorite tools I rarely use. But when you need it, it will literally save your day. If you've lived without one long enough you'll recognize the pain it saved you when you do make use of it. Also, and I'm not sure if this is my sample of 1 -- but if I put a bigger battery on it, that really makes a heap of difference. I got some new 6.0 batteries with a light and it's a pretty significant difference. Feels like it anyway -- not to say I can measure it so that's a 'gut feel' increase of at least 20 HP per sticker kind of thing, maybe. Nonetheless, great video -- love the tool.

I would of liked to see what the bigger 6.0 battery would of been like?

I wish DeWalt would make one of these. I have their DCF899 and it's glorious, but it's too large for a lot of jobs on a car (but one of the few tools to handle removal of a Honda crank pulley bolt).

Only the 1/2 comes with detent pin and there is a p in the model number. What I want to know do both the 3/8 and 1/2 have the same power or is one stronger than the other like the unusual case with the 3/8 m18 compact beating the 1/2

Good question. No, it's actually impossible...or you can try, but the impact wrench doesn't work like a ratchet. In other words, the anvil will just spin, you can't apply manual force. Thanks for watching.

20:59 Axle nuts and exhaust nuts/bolts get torqued down with rust. Change the size of the socket, im sure that will make a huge difference in nut tightening and nut busting. Bigger the nut, the harder it is to back out and the opposite when it's smaller. Unless I missed it, what size was the socket used?

Any ETA on the Milwaukee vs Kobalt heads up video? Reallly looking forward to it. I want to buy a right angle impact and I’m stuck between the Kobalt and Milwaukee. Yea, it seems the Kobalt is stronger and cheaper but If i go Kobalt. I have to buy batteries and a charger. If i go milwaukee I just need the tool. The big question is if the Milwaukee is using the 6ah battery will it beat the Kobalt? I’m so close in pulling the trigger on the Kobalt but let’s see that heads up challenge 🙏

Try the tightening test with left hand tighten nuts and bolts. I mean easy test to see if it’s really got a different torque on the forwards mode. Which I though. But try it

In general is it safe to use a ratchet to break loose some bolts or you can easily damage its internals?

I'd like to see this test redone but using a smaller socket with less mass. I don't think it's normal to use a socket equivalent to an axle nut on a right angle impact. I would like to see maybe nothing bigger than a 19mm on a tool like this because that's about the biggest bolt I'd expect this thing to function with. I see this tool and I think of removing brake calipers with ease vs trying to fit a stubby with a swivel back in there.

This Tool, being cordless makes more, and More attractive to builders faced with clearance challenges that no other tool arsenal can overcome. I mean, if they had to use a right angle drill, and now they suddenly need more power than even their their 3/8" ratchet affords them, this could definitely be a solution. I guess what I'm saying is, "there are no application rules, when it comes to tools." You can use that if you like it, just give 'Scott' at 'Rustic Ruminations' a shout out.😎

Nate C I love the stubby, so that’s a hard call. If you already have a mid-torque (something less than full size), then I’d go with the right-angle. If you don’t have a smaller impact yet, then I’d go with the stubby.

100% get the stubby for lug nuts. I use mine all the time it is absolutely kickass beyond worth the price of the tool. I plan to get this right angle impact wrench as well and I’m sure this will be just as good. But in my opinion for your application get the stubby. You will thank yourself.

You mention it was tuned for different torque for fastening vs removal. Yes, all impact tools are like that. The reason is you must be able to remove the nut you just put on.....so more power is needed in reverse mode.

I really wonder if It could bust loose torque converter bolts with locktite......my far72a air ratchet (70lbft of torque) sometimes struggles with em. But it gets most of them. However it is smaller than this impact so some trucks it wouldn't fit (newer Chevy 4x4s don't got alot of space to get the starter out the way)

I have to get one of these! I have the mid torque and I think its great for doing bigger jobs like working on suspension parts. But for engine bay jobs the mid torque doesn't work well. This is the way to go especially when you consider the bolts tend to be much smaller and not as tight.

I wouldn't give Milwaukee a pass. The tool should achieve it's advertised specs.

Would be cool if you tried a xc6.0 or a high output battery since they usually get those torque claims from their strongest batteries

I think it would have a bigger difference in the “nut busting torque” compared to fastening torque because like you said, it takes less force to remove a bolt than tighten it. If it’s torqued you 220, using your 80% rule, it would be 176 lb ft. Pretty close to the 160 lb ft average you had for tightening.

Breakaway torque is generally 10-30% less than tightening torque. "Nut busting" torque specs are make believe. Check out the Torque Test Channel on youtube for non-biased testing.

I like the Kobalt and Milwaukee right angle impacts. We tested the M12 with little batteries, so we should be releasing a video soon that puts the Kobalt and Milwaukee head-to-head.

What kind of torque wrench do you have? I didn't know a torque wrench has a feature of how much a nut/ bolt is torqued to.

GREAT REVIEW, I love mine BUT " THE TOOL EAT'S UP BATTERIES PRETTY QUICK ". That being said you're not going to use it like a TRUE IMPACT, IT'S FOR TIGHT SPACES THAT THAT TRUE IMPACT'S CAN'T FIT IN TO. I think it's a GREAT TOOL FOR MECHANICS.

Would performance change with a high output 5.0 battery?

Who make the torque wrench you are using the in the video?

I bought this impact wrench and it wouldn't even remove my honda civic lug nuts, which were torqued to 90 lbs-ft or force. I was so disappointed, I returned it. I didnt hammer the lug nuts for 6 - 10 seconds as you demonstrated, so maybe I should have kept trying, but still, this tool is over-rated.

That's very interesting that it wouldn't loosen 90 ft-lbs bolts. We just tried it again, and it does this very quickly. Although, I would never recommend this tool for removing lugnuts. This is not a replacement for an impact wrench, but it's a great supplemental impact for where other impacts won't reach. I'm sorry you seem to be having different results.

What is very common that after car lugnuts are tightened to a torque, from use, rust, dirt etc it often takes a registered higher torque to break them.

@@Shoptoolreviews you should be able to use the compression tool with a sound gate on the whole video.

I torque a wheel to 100ftlb and it would not brake it loose, fresh 2amp battery (like yours), I torque to 80ftlb still nothing and I hold it for a while and it would not break it loose. tried again at 70ftlb and then it worked. I found no use for it and return it.

The Kobalt right angle impact just seems to be so much better in many ways. This seems to be shorter (good), lighter (good), and a significantly better battery profile. Other than that though, the affordable Kobalt would vastly outperform this Milwaukee.

Spot on. The Kobalt is way more powerful. I might still buy the Milwaukee though as I already have loads of M12 batteries and it will fit in a lot of places the Kobalt won't. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dZurm5udds3cos4.html

Buddy at work owned almost all the kobalt 24v set at one point and he said after lots of use the tools can’t take the abuse. He said he cut off maybe 75 cats with the sawzall and it took a crap. Maybe 100 wheels with the impact etc

Shop Tool Reviews did tests with the 4 and 6 AH batteries. Milwaukee did 350 ft/lns and Kobalt 300 ft/lbs. We're talking nut busting torque, which takes into account strenth of motor and the design of the heads impact mechanism. You must have viewed the Torque Test channel, and the dyno only measures the motor, not efficiency of head mechanism and how hard it hits (graph showing impacts would look different). Kobalt is 24v, but impact mechanism obviously less efficient (likely smaller hammers). Does anyone know the approximate forward torque values of setting 1 or 2? I can’t find it in the user manual anywhere.

I ended up buying this tool because the Kobalt right angle impact was too weak to knock loose my brake bolts.

Can someone explain why this wouldn't be made as an M18? Wonder if it's just future planning so they can release an upgrade down the line? Logically it feels like a 1/2 impact should run on a M18 to me

They have an m18 version now according to a site I saw.

Front wheel bearings on a 4 wheel drive Ford truck are torqued to quite a bit higher than 160 lb/ft, but I'd never use an impact to do it.

Nut busting torque is more important than tightening. Tightening will be followed up with torque wrench for precise torque

We'll do that on another video, but it really doesn't make a lot of difference. Maybe 4 to 5% gain; moreso for runtime increase.

I believe you'd see a difference. More amps let's you stay on the trigger longer because the battery holds peak torque longer

on my 3/4 in impact if i use a 5ah vs a 12ah theres a huge difference. day and night. obviously i dont run the 5ah. ill use the 8ah in a pinch but its always the 12er. the same applies for M12 line. all my m12 is 4ah or better. my underhood light uses the 2ah maybe sometimes

Nicholas Gibb just cycle the trigger more often on the 5.0s, I have taken everything off of with a 5.0 that my 12amh would do. It just does it slower cause it dosent hold peak torque because of the smaller battery

I bet it eats those 2 ah batteries even worse than the ratchets. Cool looking tool, probably gonna have to buy one and add to the collection. “Nut Busting Torque”?? really milwaukee what were you thinking?

Yes, they definitely eat batteries MUCH quicker than the ratchets. In fact, we just released a new video on this right angle. We show how quickly it will go through a 2.0Ah battery. yea i got the 1/2 and 3/8 from my Milwaukee guy for like 38 bucks. i bought them for a wall hanger

Not sure what you mean by getting down to 2 cells on the battery. LOL. They are all always working. The voltage just drops. The bars are just a measurement gauge of the voltage.

Does the 3/8 have the 4 power settings ?

If it take less force to remove a bolt like you just explained when calculating the fastening torque you need to do the same with the nut busting torque if you torque to 220 lbs/ft and remove it the tool did not put 220lbs/ft to remove the bolt

That's the marketing hype of all these companies, and this is what I've explained many times over. When a company brags about "nut-busting", "loosening", or "breakaway" torque, they are talking about what I showed. If you torque a fastener to 300 ft-lbs and the impact breaks it free, then they say it has 300 ft-lbs of breakaway (insert favorite term) torque. This is terminology that has been used for decades with impact wrenches. This is a large reason why we need torque testing standards in the power tool world. Thanks for watching.

It has it's purpose. I own one but you need a bigger battery. Same as the 90 degree die grinder it needs to come with the 6.0 battery
