A lot of counterfeit goods are being sold on Amazon these days so thats probably why they don't want to warranty anything sold there.

That's it exactly. Milwaukee, and other manufacturers as well, have been left holding the bag while providing warranty service for counterfeit items! Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos is riding around the Earth in his space ship, and Joe Biden is asleep in his basement in Delaware!

While I can certainly feel your pain with the location of the circuit board, you are storing/using the unit out of position. Milwaukee designed it to sit on the rubber feet and in that position, there is no possibility of foreign matter or water to sit in that area. Could Milwaukee have made that circuit board impervious by potting it in epoxy? Absolutely. Keep the vids coming, I love the content!

I've had pretty decent service out of my Milwaukee tools, but I'm definitely never going to buy any more off of Amazon. Had no idea they came with no warranty. That needs to be more well known. Glad you were able to repair them yourself. Most people probably would not be able to.

If you go through Milwaukee e-service and just create a ticket and send the tool in without entering a receipt, they will never know, they simply go off the serial number to determine the age of the tool. I have warrantied several tools that I got at pawn shops. I certainly do not agree with their business practice there as I feel it is pretty crappy, but there is somewhat of a workaround.

The oil_less compressors use rings made out if non durable material - usually nylon. Went through two different brands of them failing after a few uses. The rings just weren't sealing anymore in both. Compressing air makes a lot of heat and kills plastic rings. Bought an oil filled metal block one that I have used it for over 5 years and it still builds pressure in the tank like when it was new.

Since the comments are about different manufacturers ill keep the theme. I had a hitachi first gen lithium battery impact driver 18v. Beat the piss out of it in all weather conditions. Over the years while working with guts who had the newest dewalt or mikwaukke impacts we i would set up a little test. Drive a 3" deck screw into a 2x as a race against the drills. My hitachi won every time and with substantially less noise on the impact. Granted a half second difference is not a huge deal but it was a superior tool even against the more recent technology drills. The two batteries that came with the drill kept tgeir lifetime for over 7 yrs. My relationship with the drill ended in a fit of rage throwing it to the pavement about as hard as i could throw it ,. Use to loose my temper a little bit when i was younger. Rip to the greatest impact ever.

The handle position does not indicates its normal operation position. You clearly see on the manufacturer's website that it's supposed to be used with the tank on the side. What you describe as the bottom is supposed to be a side. It's a badly designed machine from this point of view anyways,i agree.

I have had really good luck with my mil grease gun, I have a lot of high need zerks, the only trouble I have is priming with cold tubes of grease so I have learned to keep a couple in the house in winter and bring in the grease gun as well. fortunately since most of my greasing is farm related the majority is done in summer + I do a serious winter prep and grease all really well before the real cold comes into play just to minimize dealing with the number of grease sessions. but to date has performed well at about 2.5 years in.

@@riverflyswatter the new ryobi brushless high torque is the same tool as the milwalkee within reason. TTI makes both tools. Its miles ahead of the older brushed 1/2. The new 3/8 brushless puts out more torque than the old brushed 1/2.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know about your Milwaukee tool purchases. I have always been reluctant to purchase my tools on Amazon, simply because of what you unfortunately went through. I always price match buying direct vs Amazon. I liked the comment below describing the e service, I will definitely look at that should I have a future problem. As always Zach, great video, thanks for sharing.

My main gripe with Milwaukee is that there's an absolute GULF of difference between the build quality of some of their tools. Here's some examples that I've personally seen: The 2767-20, AKA the 1/2'' fuel high torque. Excellent impact wrench, probably the best out there. The 2704-20, their 1/2'' chuck fuel hammer drill, yet again, probably the best drill out there. It'll snap your wrist if you're not careful with it. I've had the same 1/4''' hex M12 brushed impact driver they still sell at Home Depot for $100 for years, and I WAIL on this thing. I've used it for hours drilling holes in joists and rafters to run romex using a 3/4'' spade bit till the aluminum front of the driver was too hot to hold. Every angle grinder I've bought from them has been amazing. I've had 3, all of them cordless. I had the brushed one, the fuel paddle switch one, and the fuel top slide switch one. The former two were stolen, and I've had the slide switch one for about a year. Amazing tools. But some of their tools just suck. Good tools for as long as they work, but their build quality just isn't there. I had a M12 soldering iron that died within 3 extremely light uses, I warrantied it, and it lasted about 5 uses till it died again. I warrantied it and sold it shortly after. I got tired of warrantying the brand new "top of the line" 1/4'' hex impact driver I've had since December of 2022, in 6 months it's failed in 4 different ways. First the switch, then the advertised 3 LED lights stopped working, then it was unresponsive all together, then it gave me the Christmas lights when you tried to use it. I sold it on FB marketplace and went back to using the 1/4'' brushed impact I spoke of before just recently. My M12 fuel high speed 3/8'' ratchet is an AMAZING tool, such a time saver. If only the fucking ratcheting mechanism would hold up to extended use. You push the paddle, motor works, except no spinny spinny on the anvil end because the thing is wore out. Sometimes it does this without any resistance on the anvil. Batteries all together are pretty much run of the mill for any brand out there. They wear out, it happens. I won't hold that against Milwaukee or any other manufacturer. No battery powered device doesn't have this issue. Phones, laptops, etc. all have the same issue, after many charge cycles the batteries lose capacity, and are drained faster, or develop dead cells because of general use. It's not even hard use either, it just develops the longer you use the battery.

I have came to a very similar option.

I love their M18 tools. I'm thinking of adding another brand for the less used tools though, maybe Ryobi, or something. I will say that those M18 batteries last forever, really impressed with my 6 year old batteries almost as good as new.

I preface this next statement by first saying, i own a whole tool lineup from Milwaukee. I think they're great for home use. Now I work in very heavy industry, where high fall hazards, wet locations, harsh chemicals, and dirt are all very common. We tried to use the Milwaukee and they just don't last. Switched to Makita and have had extremely good luck. For whatever reason, in our environment, they last a lot longer. Plus their tool ecosystem is a little better in my opinion. With that being said, i'm not brand loyal and no tool manufacture puts food on my table. Use what works for you.

I own quite a few Milwaukee hand tools because a jod I used to work at had them for shop tools and I saw them severely abused and they kept working. That being said your right that is a horrible design flaw on that compressor, and it makes me wonder how much durability testing they did if at all.

This is actually surprising to me, I’ve always had great experiences with Milwaukee! Even got my parents to switch from dewalt after they tried Milwaukee lol

I have the 18V Milwaukee inflator without the tank and it works great. As do the many other Milwaukee tools I have.

I have the 12volt milwaukee compressor good for what it is small enough I can take it on the quad.

And Zack, just sign up for Milwaukee EService on their website . Just fill out and put serial number in. You’ll print a prepaid shipping sticker. Send it if and comes back in about a week fixed. All tools have a 5 year warranty. I’ve had numerous tools from eBay and Amazon fixed through e service for warranty. No issues.

Zach, I have more tools than I care to admit - I’ve never had any problem with going thru the e-service. I’ve had them replace stuff that I was surprised that they didn’t deny. Someone gave you bad info.

I’ve been using Makita and Dewalt professionally in my mechanical maintenace company for several years. Like you, I was impressed by the Milwaukee 1/2” high torque impact. It’s freakin hands down the best battery powered impact I’ve used. But, some of the other tools are not near as good as the Makita. I think all the cordless companies have there specialties. I believe Makita drills and screw impact drivers are superior to Milwaukee. I love the Milwaukee LED lights.

Probably a lot of truth to that.

I have the Ryobi version of the air compressor. It runs flawlessly; that's not my problem. The air tank is only 1.5 gallons, so the compressor starts almost immediately when you use it. The battery will last no time if it runs continuously. To try and conserve battery life, I would leave it switched off until the air was drained. Then you get 3 full tanks out of one battery. That's it. I wanted to use it to operate a D/A sander, but it just doesn't have enough capacity.

I greased about 60 wells twice with a DeWalt grease gun. The second time I did it by myself and I asked how they wanted it done. I was told to get them full till it comes out the weep fitting. So bring paid by the hour I did. For some reason I used about 3-4 times the amount of grease used the last few years. The best way was to hang the gun with a Bungie on the ladder, have a zip tie on the trigger than you can slide on/off. Head up the ladder and unscrew the weep fitting(some are bad) and wait. There is some saddle bearing I put 20-30 tubes in on 220-320 units lol.

Thanks for putting this on u tube, sorry you got stuck with no warranty, I have almost purchased Millwaukee tools on Amazon and now will not, I wonder if the other tool makers have the same Amazon policy ? something to think about. A round phillips screwdriver makes it easier to adjust those 1693 valves...love that motorhome.

I'm sorry to hear this....I've got a 1/2" impact, 1/2" drill and a grease gun that have had 2 years of heavy use that have worked well, hopefully their not running on their reputation now and have cheapened up stuff.

Was there a warranty card in the grease gun package, if so did Milwaukee make any reference to the amazon situation? And the A/C thanks to engineers who think their design will never be used in other places than their living room.

If it's portable, it has to be able to tolerate some water. Why not drill the basin with a few drain holes? You can also buy conformal coating. It's a kind of clear paint that is non-conductive. They coat RC truck speed controls and receivers in it since they see so much splash. You could also hot wad dip it.

u need a spray can of conformal coating for that circut board. it will ip65 the board.

I've had pretty good luck with Ridgid cordless tools.

Ryobi, Ridgid, and Milwaukee are the same company, tti, and all 3 are really good choices. Mk are supposed to have the best batteries of the 3. Whenever buying a prosumer tool remember it's not supposed to last outside it's warranty, as they need you to buy tools more

You might consider filling that entire space with the circuit board with potting compound / epoxy. Then it won't matter what gets down there.. The down side is the first time something goes wrong the entire thing is trash

I was going to suggest this too. 3M makes a removable encapsulant; it hardens just a little stiffer than jello.

Or if there are no weep holes present in the bottom of the recessed area, maybe some can be drilled to allow any trapped water to drain away so it stays dry.

@@TheZachLife Look for Conformal Coating. They have it in a spray made to seal circuit boards and electronics against normal amounts of dirt and moisture. Not as tough as potting material but it's much better for heat dissipation and it's removable.

I hope this video gets some traction and makes its way to someone influential at Milwaukee

He could store the compressor like it's intended to be stored and the problem goes away. Look at the rubber feet on the frame, he's got it lying on it's side. Set it on it's feet like it's intended to be and water and debris won't collect on the circuit board.

Fauci is not in fact a liar, but yeah Milwaukee needs to do better on their warranty.

Hi Zach I bought some Milwaukee power tools, they work great, but Milwaukee is very expensive, so going with Ryobi is just fine, in fact after about 10 years I had two tools give up the ghost, but they were well used there's a DeWault compressor at Amazon...OR... just use and store and transport the Milwaukee up-side down. 😁

Just purchased a lot of new 40volt makita tools,, in the hope of just having one battery platform,, but if course that's impossible, their nail guns are crap, ahh, love that tshirt you have on 😂😂😂😂 truth,, I didn't go for Milwaukee, used to have loads of aeg/ridgid tools which were cheap and useful, made by tectronic, an interesting company, look them up

Was at HD the other day talking to the Ryobi rep and she told me Milwaukee and Ryobi are owned by the same company.

There are alot of fakes on the market, I remember a article about Bosch tools, they had a real Bosch and a China fake Bosch and even the engineers at Bosch had to take them apart to tell which one was real.

I think Milwaukee doesn't warrant Amazon sales because people buy factory seconds and returns and sell them as new unused

Give Makita a try... some of their stuff is even made in the USA

I think I figured out what was going on the compressor is upside down Because look at where the feet are on the metal barr so most cases that circumboard could not get wet But I do agree that's an odd place for it

You have to be careful what type of silicone you use. Most silicones contain acetic acid (That's the vinegary smell you smell when you're applying it) The acetic acid is corrosive and will wreak havoc on electronics. Make sure you use a "sensor safe" silicone. Those don't contain acetic acid.

I don't know how that works in the USA and less so in online stores like Amazon where the seller can be the platform itself or an external seller but I would try to contact Amazon to ask for a repair or a return. In the EU if the seller is a company then it is the seller who must offer the guarantee for the legal period, regardless of whether the manufacturer offers less or no guarantee at all, as is the case with products imported from China where the guarantee ends when the products are unloaded from the container ;-) or with second hand products. Now they are extending the legal period of 2 years established about 20 years ago up to 3 years, but only for products for private use. For professional use it was 1 year and I don't know if they will also extend it now or not. To benefit from the guarantee, the legal invoice must be presented and it already indicates whether the buyer is a private client or a professional/company to determine the corresponding guarantee period. Since I do not have an Amazon account I have no idea who would be responsible here, if the seller that appears on the legal invoice is Amazon EU S.à r.l. (the legal name of Amazon Europe) then Amazon EU S.à r.l. would be responsible for offering the guarantee, but Amazon may have a contract with the external sellers where they are obliged to guarantee their products... Private sellers have no obligation to offer any guarantee, not even that offered by the manufacturer, and since they cannot issue legal invoices, the manufacturer does not have to take care of it either. Although some private sellers offer exchanges and returns voluntarily and at their own risk to promote sales.

BTW I don't know if there really is a difference in quality but AEG, Milwaukee and Ryobi products are all marketed by TTI, which is based in Hong Kong, then they obviously manufacture them where it is cheaper or in some way convenient for marketing reasons, like being able to put a "Made in USA" or "Made in Germany" sticker on them.

Say Zach - Couldn't you store or perhaps even use the air compressor in a different orientation so that the electronics and the 'bowl' they're in would be protected from the evil forces of gravity? ;) I don't know if the thing is oil less or not... But seems to me just a different orientation would be a 'quick fix' to the contamination problem.

Maybe it would be better to just have a good and efficient generator that runs on propane and gasoline, has a welder and an oiled air compressor built in. Save a lot of space that's for sure.

The location of that circuit board looked fine when they designed it on a computer. Common sense is like deodorant. The people that need it most never use it. Especially engineers.

Man what a piss poor design on that compressor! I was kicking around the idea of a few new tools and was considering Milwaukee. Not anymore!

Disappointed to see the compressor being made cheaply. I've had nothing but good luck with Milwaukee and DeWalt tools. Still running a 3/8" 12volt DeWalt from 1994. Had to get some new batteries once.

Sure seems like in the past couple of decades the quality of small air compressors in general has really declined. They're usually not inexpensive neither.

That’s crazy Milwaukee wouldn’t warranty that grease gun because it was bought from Amazon, that’s bullsh*t man. That would be enough to wrap me up with using their tools. HarborFreight has a hell of a 1/2” impact wrench 😂.

Be careful buying any brand tool from Amazon. A lot of them are "seconds" or returned/repaired tools.

I use the red tools myself and I have 7 of their saws, sawzalls, pin gun and all did same. Just stopped..

I am a Ryobi user and the Ryobi compressor is almost double over priced. I ended up with the HF Bauer brushless for the same price. I was able to build a pair of adapters that allow 2 Ryobi batteries to be used with it, but also slide out if I want to warranty it. It has all the electronics up top under the cover.

Amazon is not an approved retailer of Milwaukee or most power tool brands.

Just so you know.... Milwaukee is a brand of Tectonic industries, based in Hong Kong. Yes, Milwaukee is ChiCom. Look it up.

Amazon has become chinese bazaar. Same junk items that killed ebay.

They are designed to be used in a shoe store only.

Milwaukee tools used to be good tools but unfortunately they are owned by a Chinese company and everything is made in China. They are about on par with Harbor Freight these days.

Get in there and waterproof that circuit board yourself and get some use out of that thing. Paint that board in silicone, it will never get wet again.

Something in this story doesn't make sense. A bunk tool is nothing unusual but multiples at the same time? That would be very odd with Milwaukee. I wonder if you got counterfeit tools, Amazon is full of them. I haven't lost a tool yet in 7 years, only batteries so far and I have a truck full of all Milwaukee.

They are all made in china so I buy the cheaper ryobi ones. Had great.luck with them.

they make things that are way to complicated than they should be. i don't see a reason why these so called new things are worth bothering with anymore its junk and a throw a way instead of being repairable. and any company that does not cover a warranty is BS. its not like it was used then i can understand it. to many company's use distributors what's the difference the way i see it.
