    I've seen another review on it that said the developer was looking at ways to include early victory conditions. So there's some hope that we don't get the classic spend 50 turns waiting until victory screen.

    Oh , Endgame, the bane of every 4X strategy. i've Played the old ones like Civ 2 Multiplayer Gold Edition and it gets real boring😢... but i also tried the new FreeCiv rulesets. And I also tried some mods for existing games that add stuff for Civ 5 and Civ 6 ... it's better... but it is a shame it needs Mods😊

    So it’s a traditional 4x turn based game, awesome. I kind of expected something more on the grand strategy style of game. The art style remains me of Civilization 5 in a good way. I’m glad we are getting a lot more games in the historical 4x genre lately. I love Civilization but the genre was getting a bit stagnant, new ideas are always good.

    You can definitely go off the rails and bring in things that are anything but industry standard. You should look up an old game called "Civilization: Call to Power". It was unpolished with an unimpressive AI but... dear god did it ever go in weird and awesome directions. It had rules for slavery, had you building orbital colonies on a separate map layer, weaponized lawyers and televangelists, and weirder stuff back in goddamn 1999. Knowing Paradox their take on the genre is going to keep diverging from the norm and will never, ever stop. Expect to go broke paying for expansive DLCs, though.

    I have two main questions: 1.) How much interaction do cities have with their surrounding terrain? How many varities of improvements can you place on any type of land? 2.) What non-player/AI societies exist to interact with, like city-states or barbarians?

  • @Meshakhad

    @Meshakhad

    9 ай бұрын

    @@Historyfan476AD My hope is that they separate aesthetics from bonuses. This setup seems like it would fit well with Humankind's approach of adding bonuses throughout the ages, but they could allow you to choose an aesthetic at the start, one that persists through the ages. So you could play as France for example, and you would always have French architecture and city names, but the bonuses could be entirely under your control. Or maybe your starting culture gives you a single bonus that applies throughout history, but then you add to it. So maybe the Norse are good at building ships, but you can later specialize your culture in other areas.

    @@Meshakhad Like you could make your own culture/society and name it choosing the "feel and look" of it by picking from a list of Aesthetics. Or you could just pick a pre made "faction". I do like the idea of picking new bonuses as the Eras move on, Hope more games add that in some form.

    What would be really cool is if your cities names changed over time, through the ages. eg London was not founded as such, it was previously "Londinium" (romans) and probably had many more names in-between. This name change could be influenced by culture mechanics. ie heaven forbid, if there was significant French influence on the culture of a city called London, after an age change (or even conquest?) that city name might change to "Londres" (current French name for London). There are many names for cities out there in different languages. Civ players are a sophisticated bunch and I'm sure can handle it. This could be a pretty easy way to add an immersive evolution element to the world.

    We've had a major bonanza of 4X games since Civ VI came out. First Old World and Humankind, soon we'll get Ara: History Untold, and now we find out that this is coming too. Civ is my favorite game franchise and always will be, but I wonder how they're going to step it up for Civ VII to make it stand out and keep people playing when all these other games with their really compelling ideas will be competing for players' time. I don't think the Sid Meier name alone is going to carry it.

    I hope they use the Civ start method vs. Hunankind where you have to wander for several turns. I hate the wandering part.

    How controllable are the ages you go into? Would you ever want to go into a crisis age like age of plague, or age of blood, or are they punishments for doing certain things/having certain things happen and generally to be avoided? Does everyone on the map go into the same ages, or are they different per civilization

    I can see purposefully going into an Age of Blood because it sets all nations in the game at war with each other. You could trigger one and just let all of the other countries tear each other apart. I'll bet the others also give a benefit to the nation that triggered the Crisis.

    This being a 4x game one of the most important factors for it is being able to win through domination and as a result combat is of extreme importance. You mentioned combat is a bit hands off which doesn't sounds too good but then again stellaris combat is hands off and is good so willing to give it the benefict of the doubt here. How exactly does it works? We know you clash a stack of units into another. Is there a limit to how much units you can stack? As you move through ages, what happens to old units, do they become obsulete and you just need to build more or can you upgrade them into anything more advanced for the age? combat really needs every single detail that you can think of explained because again, that is going to be the most important thing. As a side note another important question is whether they limit how many cities you can have whether by a soft cap where you get ever increasing penalties or a hard cap. This is important because going back again to domination victory. You can't have a domination victory condition when you can't capture every single city that every enemy owns (well technically you could potentially raze them and it would still be a domination victory but it would be extremely unsatisfactory).

    Let's start with the basics: Is it real-time, turn based, or some kind of hybrid? Steam says it is both single-player and multiplayer. Is there a focus on one or the other? I've seen mention of a "Victory Age", so it seems it isn't just a sandbox. What are the possible victory conditions? The battle system you described sounds like it is not a tactical game. Is there an option to direct units during battle, or is it simply stack vs stack? Any hints when this is expected to be available for early-access or release?

    Whats the player 'fantasy' to use a PDX staple? Are we a godlike unseen hand(basic civ player) or some unique entity tied to gameplay mechanics in some way?

    Are the national spirits only one per age or one per category per age? Would be weird if you only got 4 during the entire playthrough! Also with technologies, is it possible to research techs or subtechs from older ages, or research more than 3 technologies per age? Can you research just a few subtechs within a bigger technology?
