At his age you should be in awe at how fit he is at that age!
Fun fact: In the first film, director Tony Scott was almost fired by the studio after spending an entire day filming the famous Volleyball scene. This is because at the time, the studio was paying a very expensive daily price to use a Naval base and an Aircraft Carrier at port for certain shots that they were supposed to be getting. The studio was angry that Tony Scott wasted a full day on one small scene, but decided to keep him after seeing the footage he captured. In this film, Maverick abandons their training and spends an entire day playing football with the students instead of instructing, which leads the Admiral to become upset with him. But once he sees the lesson Maverick is teaching them, he acknowledges it's a good idea and keeps him. This scenes context is a callback to that original Top Gun story.

@@ghostland8646 you’re totally right. Miles Teller (Rooster) was born in 1987, a year after the first movie came out. Which is funny because his character plays the son of Goose who appears to be 4 years old in the first film. Which should have made Rooster 39 at least in the sequel. But when the movie was shot, he was 32/33, a year before COVID hit the U.S. since the movie was released a lot later than it was suppose to due to the pandemic. Long explanation, sorry. But I know because I’m Miles Teller’s age, who is now 35. And Miles is the oldest out of this new cast. Read that the actors were mostly just told to go play ball, with multiple cameras catching lots of different actors doing different actions. Some small bits were planned, like Miles giving Cruise a hand up off the sand and then waking away with no connection. In one moment, Miles had won a pass or such, so he did this little 'dance' move and lucky for editing, the cameras caught it. The rest is history.
This scene is an important scene to further relay the movie's plot.

The ONLY similarity between Iceman and Hangman is simply for the fact that Hangman was a stand-in competition for Rooster. Just like how Iceman was for Maverick. That's it. But Hangman more closely resembles Maverick's disregard for his team from the first movie. Iceman was more of a rule follower. The first movie they described Iceman as a clean fighter pilot, almost perfect. In the sense that he stuck to protocol and didn't take risks. He cared about the team as a whole. In this movie, Hangman plays the role of Maverick in the sense that he's too confident in himself and just leaves his teammates behind to die. Both Hangman and Maverick had similar redemption arcs at the end of each film Rooster is neither like Goose nor Maverick or a combination of the two. He is his own entity. The only time he is like Maverick is when he finally takes Maverick's teaching advice. And I guess he does go back for Maverick. But as a personality he is very different from Maverick and his dad. The only time he is like Goose is simply for the fact that he played the same song at the bar. Again not a personality trait.

Every work environment should have the occassional team-building activities. Take them out of the office or whatever work environment, put them in a place where they can be more relaxed and allowed to enjoy the company of each other. Its not just simply an excursion, its about getting everyone to know each other better. This is what makes everyone trust each other and perform their tasks with better confidence. I know most people will prefer Rooster or Hangman's little celebration they did but for me the best shot in this scene happens at 1:53
Miles Teller really put on some muscle. He's now one of those actors who got buff for a role.
The shirtless beach football montage had to be shot twice because Tom Cruise did not find the first version good enough. The re-shoot placed additional pressure on the actors to get their ripped bodies back to re-shoot the scene. Cast member Glen Powell recounted, "We shot it and that night we all went out for milkshakes and tater tots. Just like splurge and everybody grabbed a beer. And a week later Tom's like, "We gotta shoot it again. It wasn't good enough. We're gonna shoot it again. And then everybody's back in the gym again, day and night." The sequence is being used very heavily to promote the movie after a similar scene in the original film became iconic and an audience favorite. The original film showed an intense beach volleyball game. Compared to the fighter jet aerials, the setup for the volleyball scene was laughably simple. The production brought in a dump truck of sand, put up a net and filmed it in a matter of hours.

@@patfer1189 filmmaking back in the '80s isn't as efficient, logical and organized as it is now. back then most filmmaking outfits ran by their emotions and by the seat of their pants. it's only during the late' 90s and onwards that studios started doing the Project Management style filmmaking at least for the logistics side of it. unfortunately that highly structured process permeated the upper ranks and started interfering with the creative side of filmmaking, which is largely what entertainment should be all about. that's why there's this underlying, constant tug of war with "studio type" movie and a more "indie creative type" movie. one of the miracles that is Top Gun Maverick is that it manages to find the balance between being a studio type movie and yet has all the heart and golden moments captured on camera that is usually found in indie type movies.
