MILES DAVIS "Perhaps the greatest jazz musician of the 20th century... Miles Davis is so important to jazz because of his ability to continually evolve. This evolution resulted in a continuous impact on the world of jazz that saw Miles move from bebop to helping found cool jazz, hard bop, third stream music, and fusion jazz, as well as staying in the avant-garde of jazz music for much of his career. His innovations forever changed jazz, and although a great trumpet player, he is most remembered for his stylistic innovations." aaep1600.osu.edu/index.php

Miles Davis sought to elicit collective improvisation in all his bands. As his thinking evolved, he promoted more rhythmic interaction by reducing the harmonic progressions to what ultimately elicited the highest order of rhythmic agreement. That has always been the joy in jazz for me.

When I first heard Miles’s rendition of Human Nature I was pleasantly perplexed. A part of me was just so glad to hear him voice the tune even though I was worried it was cheating choosing such a popular and seemingly safe cover. However once you factor in Quincy’s involvement in the original and the words I just relaxed and let it happen. Lol I was taken to NYC on an early summer night cruising through admiring the city lights and the busy atmosphere from the safe and tranquil passenger seat... That’s what this will forever evoke for me.
