Man, this format suits Conan so well. In a podcast, he can go in depth, he's not pressured by getting to the next stop set and so on. He's just real. This format showcases the naturally funny and witty gifts in his quiver. Kudos, Conzie!!!!

It was a fantastic episode. It's always nice to see Mila interact with Conan. 😄
The discussion of celebrities “going through the machine” is very much on point. As for social media, this is a very powerful force that has been dumped into society and as yet is completely lacking in accepted protocols. I am also thankful that there was no social media when I was growing up (….and no touch-tone phones, either).
And I 100% agree with Mila… We are about the same age, and growing up without social media was such a blessing… Our age group of people born in the mid to late 80’s, were the last group of people that mainly grew up “the old school way”… We weren’t slaves to our cellphones, internet, and social media… We didn’t have to worry about every dumb thing we said or did being recorded and going viral for all the wrong reasons… Society in general back then wasn’t as sensitive, now a days people have their lives ruined over a mistake that goes viral… There’s def a few that deserve it but a lot of people in that predicament are just dumb kids doing what dumb kids have done for generations just now the whole world gets to judge them for their mistakes… it’s pretty scary, if I had a teenage kid it would def worry me lol

we also have the benefit of being young enough that we're still tech literate- I run into a lot of parents who are only 10 years older than me and can't work a router or edit app settings without extensive help. and are wildly uninformed about what their kids run into on unchaperoned internet.
@badsaint1019

Agreed, and young people now are so brain dead that they can't keep focused on something for more than a minute, which is why TikTok, instagram clips, and even youtube shorts became popular. We live in a world that is fast to judge and comment, but without empathy or tolerant to people who's views differ from ours. Quite unfortunate.

With social media, generally people only try to portray themselves as interesting as possible for "world wide approval" from others. Its all about seeking approval in order to show other how "cool" your life is, instead of just living it. I'm a 90s baby and Im very happy to have grown up with very limited social media. I really only kinda got into it in the early days of MySpace when I was a teen. To me those platforms were meant to be used to mess around and have fun with friends and family by posting/sharing pics and vids, not to display my entire life online for clicks and likes. Its unrealistic for social media to go away, but I hope future generations grow up knowing more about the harms of habitual social media use and how it can develop anti-social and narcissistic behavior.
Conan is so real and honest, loved seeing him live
This was a great episode. Loved hearing her interact with Sona and Matt.
I think its mostly because she didn’t have a fucked up childhood & fame in the same mix. Some celebrities grow up depressed & have a hard time navigating through it while being in the public eye at the same time .. even when there was no social media (back in the 90s, 80s, or whenever).
@VioletEmerald
11 ай бұрын
She kinda did have a fucked up childhood in one key way, she was severely traumatized by moving to the USA without warning or being told she was moving there, and she didn't speak the language at all, and she repressed memories of all the pain of that the first year she was here. But I suppose it seems her parents were amazing overall and got her through it and she became amazingly resilient. I adore her.
I saw an ad on Instagram about Mila coming on the podcast and came here. I love her and Conan together this much.
I watched That '70s Show so many times as a kid that I have the unhealthy sense of having grown up with the cast. It's good to see that some of them like Mila apparently turned out really well, as a counterweight to how disturbing Danny Masterson is now

Lol Conan you're amazing and first time seeing Mila in this light she's good people.
She credits not growing up during the age of social media and her parents, but the most important reason is probably just herself - it is just who she is. Social media certainly amplifies some of the challenges of growing up, and parents can guide, but once someone is in adolescence, they are becoming who they are as individuals. She seems to have a lot of personality traits (e.g within conscientiousness and agreeableness) that makes her a likeable person who has made mostly good decisions in her life. I am basing this on the discussion- I do not know to what extent this is truly accurate.
@rikumajumder1558

But not growing up without social media is a big factor. Everyone in her and even mine (90s) still while having Videogames didn't have the Modern landscape of what Social media evolved to. It helped everyone in her and my generation to be able to detach from it if we tried quite easily. GenZ is addicted to it to the point they need therapy to get over the addiction.

@@remnant24 Personality is only partly a product of those things. Much of personality is intrinsic to the person. Notice how different siblings can be. Have you had kids? Trying making an extroverted child an introvert. So, no, is not a false distinction. There is some relationship to environment, but it is weaker than you are implying in your response. Not to mention that I am adding personality to her mention of parents and lack of social media. It would seem narcissistic for her to credit herself, so I am doing so.

The whole "going through the machine" feels exactly like being a public school teacher now days. Keyword being public. Except, your pay is crappy, most teachers I know don't get paid during their summers and still have to work hard when we have "time off". All while dealing with this infinite balance of taking disrespect from some kids and all of those behaviors and still trying to be positive. It's incredibly exhausting. You have to WANT to be a teacher to make a full fledge career out of it. I can only imagine if it's the same thing for actors

The difference between then and now is not that everything gets documented and recorded, it's that people have been thaught to over-react to certain jokes, expressions and individualities. You can document and record however much you'd like but as long as there are no people there to take it seriously then there will be no problems. Things only become what we make them.
Met her at a gallery opening years back. Really one of the coolest ladies around. 💛
super wise about coming up now vs. back in our day when we could just be kids and make our mistakes without fear of being obliterated online - it felt like everyone was on an even playing field instead of kowtowing to social media appearances. I can't stand that crap

I find it difficult not even know how to speak to young people these days because of their social media and all
Mila really got lucky in landing the exact gig she did (well that whole cast did), being in an ensemble cast for a multi-camera sitcom has been for a long time pretty much the best possible acting job you can have as far as freedom. even if you're the lead on a show, you as an actor don't really work all that much in a given week. you'll really only have one "full" day of work in the week, shoot night, otherwise it's just the table reads at the start, and maybe some blocking in the middle of the week (tho many shows use all stand ins for that)
I ❤ Mila Kulnis (and the pod). She said a lot of real stuff. She always has been personable, as Conan pointed out. The “I’m so sorry” anecdote about clubbing…. Gurl, I’ve been there. I love that your initial response is like “are you bleeding? I have a solution!”
"....... I'm so sorry .. I don't do that .." lmfao
Same ..
So glad Conan has continued his interviews... He has always been one of the best hosts, and has a great group of guests that you can tell enjoy him. And, Mila Kunis is one of the best guests ever. 😀 She is just so personable and always seems sincere and open... with the same positive attitude and thoughtful composure as Kate Beckinsale and Anna Faris... where they are excellent actors/actresses with a wide range of roles, but always seem like they are just being themselves when talking with others. Here's to Conan for having one of the best shows in any venue. Go Team Coco! 😁

Seeing Sona crack up to the thought that Milia use to apologize for not taking hardcore drugs to strangers was the high light of the video cause no one caught on to it but her.
