About five months after the Palma de Mallorca Interzonal (1970) qualifier was held, the first stage (the quarterfinals) of the Candidates matches was held in four cities in May 1971. In Vancouver, Canada there was a 10 game match between Mark Taimanov and Bobby Fischer, played May 16th - June 1st. Fischer sensationally won the match with a perfect score of 6-0, thereby proceeding to the Fischer - Larsen Candidates Semifinal (1971). After the event, Taimanov was reported to have said, "At least I still have my music." He wasn't being merely melodramatic: the consequences of this loss were to haunt him for years. In an interview with Joel Lautier, Taimanov later recounted:
"Until the match with Fischer in 1971, everything went smoothly in my chess career. This dramatic match changed my life into hell."
"As Fischer himself admitted at the time, the final score did not reflect the true balance of strength. The terrible feeling that I was playing against a machine which never made any mistake shattered my resistance. Fischer would never concede any weakening of his position, he was an incredibly tough defender. The third game proved to be the turning point of the match. After a pretty tactical sequence, I had managed to set my opponent serious problems. In a position that I considered to be winning, I could not find a way to break through his defenses. For every promising idea, I found an answer for Fischer, I engrossed myself in a very deep think which did not produce any positive result. Frustrated and exhausted, I avoided the critical line in the end and lost the thread of the game, which lead to my defeat eventually. Ten years later, I found at last how I should have won that fatal game, but unfortunately, it didn't matter anymore! I have written a book about this match, entitled How I Became Fischer's Victim, it represents an essay on the American player and describes how I perceived his style and personality, once the match was over."

Bobby was an innovator . Some forget he invented modern time controls with increments. Some refer to chess clocks as Fischer Clocks or Fischer time controls ., after he won his rematch with Spassky in 92, 17 years out of competition, Kasparov estimated his strength as ‘ maybe ‘ 2600. Yasser Seirawan disagreed , saying Bobby was still top ten in the world . Bobby also promoted fitness for stamina , especially over long matches. He swam , lifted , boxed . When asked about Carlsen’s success , Kasparov attributed it to his fitness as well as his own , crediting his own twenty year reign to being in better shape than his opponents who were twenty years younger . It’s why you see water bottles and OJ without the vodka in match play now

Fischer's library contained anti-semitic and racist literature such as Mein Kampf, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and The White Man's Bible and Nature's Eternal Religion by Ben Klassen, founder of the World Church of the Creator. A notebook written by Fischer contains sentiments such as "12/13/99 It's time to start randomly killing Jews". ( good ) chess isn't everything in life. i think more important is character, of which this nazi had very little.

Accents are always hard to get rid of, even when sacrifices are made, you can't capture enough to get perfect, but with constant capture and sacrifice in time you can offer a draw, hahaha! You see what I did there!

The American Chess Congress was the official sponsor of the BOBBY FISCHER INT’L CHESS PARK proposed to be built in Santa Monica to honor the only American to have won the World Chess Championship. Bobby had an impressive career and for many is considered the greatest in chess. He began to study chess at the age of six and became a voracious student of the game. Fischer won the United States Chess Championship at the age of fourteen and at fifteen became the youngest Grandmaster at that time. In two consecutive years, he won the United States Chess Championship with a perfect score and has held the title eight times. In 1972, he captured the World Chess Championship with a decisive lead. In 1975, the Soviets and the International Chess Federation [FIDE] claimed the title on forfeiture in what is still a controversial issue and thus began the FIDE World Chess Championship. In 1992, Fischer emerged to play a rematch for the real title and won in good fashion. He died in 2008. The chess tables at the foot of the pier in Santa Monica, California are known of internationally. It was the former site of the old Santa Monica Bay Chess Club. Bobby first played in Santa Monica during the Piatigorsky Cup [a strong international tournament] in 1966. When Fischer lived in Pasadena in the late eighties, he would delight many with his visits to the tables. For these reasons, the tables have been selected to honor a great American chess hero.

I don’t know who those two are but the guy on the right is a pirate from Latvia and a magician from Riga. Some call him Misha.

You said it yourself knight on the rival is indeed a very sad scene & that's the case for white! I guess too many options are not always good in the game due to time consumption!!

Mark Taimanov lost his chess pension because of this, it was reinstated when Spassky lost to Fischer, a little detail if you care to explain further!

definition SUGGESTION: 1) a CRITICAL moment: one where only a single or small number of moves puts one player at an advantage, whereas all other moves lose. Thus a moment, where playing right is critical for succes. 2) a FATEFUL moment: one where a player does a mistake or small inaccuracy that turns the favors/ leads to an attack/motivation of the opponent. a fateful moment does not have to be neccessarily critical but can be (probably often the case) a critical moment is probably always fatefull (to a considerable degree at least) because it is at the crossroads, as the term critical implies. like if you agree

Hey Agadmator, love your content. I have a rather strange request, but i know you play league as well, so thought i would ask. Making a montage and was hoping it would be cool if I used your ICONIC "Hello Everyone" as a sound effect for when people facecheck without vision
