Mike Wanchic, John Mellencamp: THE KEY TO MELLENCAMP'S SUCCESS

Музыка

On this Mike Wanchic Interview: This was an absolutely KILLER conversation! Mike absorbed and learned the basics of music and guitar from the recovering heroin addicts (all professional jazz musicians), in a well-known hospital his father ran… meeting John Mellencamp & how the band slowly progressed by deliberately tweaking various aspects of their sound and songwriting to improve at their craft, NOT chasing pop culture trends, how Mike became John’s co-producer and the skills that made him good at it, working with Mick Ronson, Ian Hunter, Steve Cropper… how to build a good live show, diligence, work ethic, connecting with your audience, Mike’s cool vintage strats, loyalty, fatherhood and more. First-Class all the way - a MUST Listen!

Was a huge Mellencamp fan in my teens. Years later I worked for an artist whose 2 albums were produced by Mike. Mike came up for one of our shows in Toronto and I had the absolute pleasure and thrill of chatting with him. He told me a hilarious story about an event where they opened up for the Beach Boys. Suffice it to say … the band ended up on a bit of a “community service” tour after the incident with the Beach Boys. My 16 year old self would have gone insane had I known I would one day have that conversation with the epic guitarist of that epic artist.

Indiana girl born/raised. I saw them at bars at first just a few of us. The crowds grew you could tell something was happening. I was even there for the infamous Johnny Cougar day. ❤to all of you thanks for the memories.

Mike Wanchic is the guitarist that unlocked the fretboard for me. How many beautiful harmonic ways can you play three simple chords? Listen to Mike play Jack and Diane.
