Are they so slow because of the weight of all the metal?

This is tournament fighting for sport and entertainment. Which was done back in the day. Real knight fighting typically took place on horse back with a lance and they usually just went after footsoldiers. In the rare case where knights would fight eachother on foot it was either with warhammer/poleaxes or would turn into a grappling match with the knights trying to stick a dagger between the gaps in the armor.

@danevertt3210 yes, there are accidents that happen. There are rules in place to help protect the fighters, ie. No stabbing, weight limits on maces and axes etc. Most common are knee injuries from a bad fall, but there have been pretty bad ones aswell
