Mike Vasey Interview at Daytona Bike Week | DK Interviews

Check out Mike Vasey’s custom chopper that he showed off at this past Garage Build show during Daytona Bike Week. Mike works as an artist, specializing in engraving and leather tooling. He shows off both of these skills in the build.
Mike’s chopper is built around a 1975 Shovelhead with a 70s rigid frame. Mike had the Shovelhead bored out to 80ci with 10.5 to 1 compression. The rest of the parts were either things he already had or could find for cheap, though everything on the bike looks like a high dollar investment.
Mike did all the engraving on the tank and fender himself. His daughter added resin work, including a Virgin Mary piece and a shifter with a real rat skull. His friend Rob Nickel helped with the exhaust, fabrication, and painting.
For Mike, he never plans a build out, but instead lets the bike build itself. He’ll throw some pieces at it until it works. The green stitching on the seat influenced the frame color. And he chose pieces that fit with one another.
