Mike Vallely's Elephant Skateboards Setup, Alli Sports
Спорт
Mike Vallely knows a thing or two about skateboards as he has been riding them professionally for the past 25 years. The skate legend has taken his creative ideas and put them into motion with his new brand, Elephant. He felt that the unique styles of skateboarders needed unique equipment as well. Watch Mike as he takes you through his old school board with a modern mold and see him rip apart the mini ramp at Woodward Tahoe in this Alli Sports Setup.

That's because that's what they're for, stability. The popsicle sticks people think of as skateboards today are upsized freestyle decks come up with by Rodney Mullen during his World Industries days. 😆

Thanks for keeping originality alive Mike. Much love.
Surprisingly, this skateboard is actually a pretty decent street board. It Kickflips VERY nicely, in my opinion better than the old popsickle stick. I can also get my ollies high enough on flat to be able to do Mute grabs and Indy grabs on it, so it has pretty good Pop. If you can get used to the size of the deck, you can pretty much do just as much on it as you can with a popsickle. Don't be mistaken, it's called the Street Axe for a reason, and it does its job very well. Buy this Deck!

How tall r u? Because im 13 and i skate a 8.25 and mostly ride bowls and vert but occasionally street that's why I want to get this but the problem is will it be to big for me?? (Shoe size : 9 uk)

Rob Fitzpatrick I'm thirteen as well but I'm a size seven shoes UK and I find that a board as wide as that is very hard to Ollie and kickflip on. if you want a shaped deck I suggest getting a smaller width one around an 8.25

When I was younger and watching Mike in the 90s I wondered why he wasn't blasting handrails and stair sets like everyone else at the time. 23 years later he is one of the few pros I still remember and admire. I forgot all the handrails and gaps from the magazines, but I vividly remember seeing Mikes handplants on things nobody else was touching.
i approve this move to oldschool shapes very much!

cuatromonster Most of the better Skateshops have them, or can order them for you. They are easy to find online in trusted shops. just search for elephant skateboards. Also Santa Cruz and Powell reissued their most important oldschool Decks and you can buy them for about 50-80dollars.

I just bought a board like that. I'm so digging this guy style. It's cool when you see people that think the same
I just switched to shaped deck recently and I love it, I'm riding a welcome at the moment but I love the elephant decks they have some crazy shapes.
I love the 70's style skating. it wasn't all about those difficult flip tricks lol haha

@@BrownistKidUKnow Skateboard had metal wheels in the 70's.
That double sided deck that Mike showed, I remember that. An older kid that we all looked up to because he was so good, plus he was nice to us, he had that. He told us it was the future of skateboarding. I didn't realize it was a Mike Valley board. I've been wanting an 80s fishtail style set up. I may grab one of these. The Caballero reissue looks sweet but the nose is short and flat. I'm digging this shape.
I absolutely love the street axe I love the look, concave and shape is so cool and unique
This guy brought back the oldschool deck took 10 years now everybody is skating these, Mike Vallely a trend setta 💯
This is the best thing about coming up with your ideas being creative and doing wat your mind tells yiu to do its cool thats a subscriber for you my man
I learned bonelesses and street plants from watching mike. I eventually got to the point I could 360 boneless in a mini pipe. Didnt think much of it till I was getting props from other skaters. Thank you mike V for all you have done for skateboarding 🤘
I love the retro look with the modern feel. That also looks like it has some serious concave to it. more than your average. Im getting one. not to do street skating with but i think it would be cool to have one you can just have fun with
Love the way that guy skates definitely one of the best of all time he's in my top five of my favorite skaters
Great idea. Excellent skating. Keep 80's style shapes alive!!!
That run at the end of the video was sick!! The old school(1980s - 1990s) style of skating will never die!!! :-)
Dope setup! Even though I didn't live to see the 80s, I love those decks and the shape. I ride a old school Powell Peralta and it is so fun.
love the board and the idea of Individualality with a different board.
Damn right Mike. Love the board. Fully support the style.
Mike V, what a legend! Tore that mini ramp up!
I love Mike V's riding style on the miniramp!! he's so good
I bought this board few days ago and it is absolutely amazing!
You are very right. Back in the day when Mike V grew up skating everyone just skated everything. We would skate street then hit up a backyard ramp or ditch or anything we could find to skate. It's more fun than only doing one style. Another good example to watch is Mark Gonzales.
if you guys like retro shapes try welcome skateboards one of my setups is a welcome board and I love them

Yes! I've got the lindworm shape on my park setup they're solid
Those decks with cruiser wheels go crazy fast which is perfect to me. The challenge is getting the same tricks I get on a 8.38 board with a 10 in board.
Love the look and colours
I'd love this. I really want an old school board like this. I'm breaking out an old Valterra to ride, but wish it was concave like this.
THATS A SICK BOARD SHAPE, I REALLY WANT ONE NOW!!!!!. MIKE V YOUR AN AWESOME SKATER!!!!!
Mike is sooo damn cool! Love his style and his boards! Keep up the amazing work and keep on shredding :)
i got one of his company's boards and it lasts a long time for me and it skates so good
Just got a Dimebag with indy 169s and 60mm spitfires, it shreds so hard, is comfy and unique as hell.
Mike V is one of my favorite skaters in 2005 when he was on Element Ality vol1
seriously... i LOVE this dude.
Other than the blue color, I think it looks pretty solid. I'm def gonna order one soon. The team fits my style of skating, so the board shapes should mirror that.
mike v is so classic!! that last 360 boneless was NUTS!!!

I believe that's a 540 boneless.
Awesome setup. I like it.
The first company to come out with a commercially available double-tail board was World Industries - Mike V was involved with them in 1989 after he left Powell-Peralta. This ultimately became the industry-standard shape and the first board to be commercially released on this design was Mike V's deck with World Industries. Hope this helps, buddy :)
I'm riding a Krooked Zip Zinger, Theeve TiAX 5.0 trucks, Krooked Krusherz wheels (78a 54mm) and bones reds with 1/8inch riser pads. I'm really just getting into it but its super fun so far.
I used to have an old deck the same shape (nose & tail) same and old skool style i got for xmas early 90s from Sears n Roebucks.I miss that board..
Man that board looks so unique and sick for bowl riding
love the set up man

Didn't they make a re issue ?
It looks like the right brand for me. I like MV because his style is old school but still so unique. Wish I could meet him some day.
If I could have my choice of shape I would like that double kick tail skate deck that Mike V rode like he showed when he was mentioning the popsickle stick deck because that 80's shape was similar, but not the same due the nose and kicktail being more squared off rather than rounded off. If I could have one of those same shapes that Mike rode in the 80's with an 8 inch width by 31.75 inch length with that more squared off nose and kicktail,I would buy it in an instant! I remember Mike V's final part from that old Santa Cruz video at the end as the last skater and fell in love with that deck he was riding.
Good for you Mike V! Switching up the stale board shape that's been going on for 25 goddamn years. I recently got a vision jinx mini (marty jimenez) which is very similar to your board. Cause it's the mini... not crazy heavy and big like a Gonz or something of that same era... but unlike yours lacks the nose and the h-street hell-concave. Also got some ratbones 60mm softer wheels (85A ?). And because I didn't want the setup to be too heavy chose tensor mag lows with risers. Indy's are a bit heavy for an old school setup... and an old guy. Sick vid. You're still rocking it bro!
Amazing, he got unique style.
Is that the same mike v who got in a lot of fist fights? Damn he's mellowed if it is him. He seems way lighter hearted and happier. Good for him. Always one of my favs.
Hey Mike will this shape is amazing !
Best board I have ridden yet...never going back!!!!
Boards cool, but I was more impressed at how effortlessly your ripped that pipe.
I'm impatient to find this board in France. Looks to be great !!!!!
Dirty Fences! Holy crap! Tiny band I did sound for at university last year!
got mine last week on indys and g-bones soooo sweet!!!
I think I'm going to try this board out.
Finishing move was awesome, he went so far out he all most missed the ramp 💜🇺🇸
You are one of my favorite skateboarders
Great! Does not know how wide his board is or how long...But yeah, real modern! Awesome board and looks great.
yes they are. fish shapes with "money bumps". big wide decks with indy 169 or 215's with khiro bushings and big ass 60 - 65 mm wheels. rails are a must.
man that setup is sweet
Was so funny seeing Mike V on the Viva la Bam episode Vito's revenge. At the end how Bam and CKY had the construction dirt lifter to destroy their house lol
So cool and he is so right, I want that board :) Street Axe, yea.
that board is badass
Probs gonna see this man on vocals for Black Flag next week, sick! 🤘🤘🤘
I have been waiting for one of his Elephant boards to get to my house!!
mike v is one of a kind when it comes to skateboarding
Really like that board.

Mike V is such a badass!! Wish i could meet dude or even skate with him
Such a legend !!!
Damn you mike v that's actually pretty rad!
I rock the jersey devil deck myself, actually I'm the first person besides mike V to ever have one. !!!! It flicks so much better than the popsicle decks ive become so used to riding Elephant brand WMC !!!
I love this board!!!
I love how mike v is doing his own thing. Personally i prefer the 'modern' style boards but hes right, skaters should be individual therefore everyone should have an individual board
Brilliant!!! At this Very minute I am glueing some plywood together to create this Exact shape. Fascinating. Might not get the uplift on the nose. Tryina get rid of that. Love the ramp and what u did there ! Footplants rule! And caveman... oh well I'll post a vid soon on my own design. oh yes.. it has a waist. :-)
Beautiful
I do have a set of STFs but I don't know if I like them so much yet because they are hard and so bumpy on the road, where I live there are a ton of trees so the pavement is a cracked and uneven from the roots and strewn with sticks and leaves so I have to find a happy medium, I'm going to try some Rat Bones wheels though.
you look so different from tony hawk underground :3 its cool seeing skaters from a game in real life
I Love that set up!!! Th e popsicle shape is totally not for me, so this to me is perfect !
I think mike v has a buttery setup best looking board i have seen these days for sure...
That's a sweet deck!
Also kinda sick of "old school decks are good cruisers" talk. Can we all re-watch Blind's 'Video Days'. They were doing everything that we do today perfectly on an "old school deck". Check out Gonz hitting rails all day long. Mariano and Lee tre flipping like it hadn't just been invented 1 year earlier. Anyone can shred an "old school deck" like a normal skateboard. Ya, David Gonzales will suddenly suck if he rides Vallely's board?

Charles J Gartner its mainly the concave that makes the difference, have you ever tried doing a kick flip on a old school flat cruiser it feels whack and unresponsive it's like relearning whereas the new mold will feel the same minus the shape

Richy_sb I skated in the 80s boards from powell, sma, schmitt stix n death box - concave from 86 onwards has not changed much only the noses have. so trying to kick/heel flips are no different - like the old sayin a good workman don't blame his tools, only tools blame their tools.

This is super gnarly , finally someone says no the the popsicle!!
dude thats awesome. I just got some 149s and I dont want to purchase a whole new set of trucks just because I want a wider board
The ridges that protrude by the back wheel base remind me of the old Rob Roskopp Santa Cruz shape.
older guy on an old school board but still so good thanks dude great vid 😸🌈
i wanna get the Elephant Street Shape just cause of Mike V hes such a legend

That's a nice setup
