Holmes tried to finish him with basic punches and nothing fancy but he became the bad guy for beating up the legend. Holmes camp and wife said he went to the locker room after the fight and stayed in there sobbing for a long time before he could meet the press for post fight. Somehow, Ali got cleared again to fight Berbick but Holmes is the one Tyson fought with the “revenge for Ali” motive because it made it a more compelling fight. Holmes himself was 48-0 before his 1st loss and was a world champion for 7 years. 69-6 final record and the only 3 men to beat him before he turned 45 were Michael Spinks, Mike Tyson, and Evander Holyfield.

People in general, both fight fans and others, still have a reverence for Ali that they will never have for any other boxer, including Mike Tyson, great as he was as a boxer and is now as a human being. That's why Floyd Mayweather, who I genuinely believe is the greatest pound for pound boxer in history (and by far, in my view), will never receive the kind of respect that Ali has always enjoyed. Ali was, is, and always will be in a class of his own. Truly the GOAT in the truest sense of that term.

The beauty of this is mike is one of the biggest Ali fans in existence. he loved Ali, he used to visit Ali when he was still alive all the time, show him his moves, and would still call him champ. it was like watching a son visit his dad and show him the magic trick his dad showed him as a child, just to show his dad how much he still cherishes what he was taught. it was a beautiful sight. I could honestly say, and would even tote a ass whupping from Big Mike for saying it. But I would honestly say that out of everyone in this world, when Ali died I believe Mike cried the hardest because of how much he loved and respected that man. R.I.P. He could blank out, and instead of putting forth a fist (for the Rock symbol in this game) he might put that fist to my jaw. In which case, I stand no chance of continuing my consciousness. And would later wake up to hopefully a Mike Tyson apology. And that's the best case scenario. What if he blanked for several minutes and beat me to a bloody pulp? The best case then would be for my to attempt to sue him and hope he feels quite guilty about what he did and settles out of court for an undisclosed amount of money that might make my life easier but would forever be a victim to the trauma of an uninstigated attack from one of the greatest boxers of all time.
