Muhammad Ali - Racial Integration

Muhammad Ali talks about racial integration in USA; November 1971 on Parkinson, a British television chat show.
"You may be right, dead right, as you speed along in your argument; but as far as changing another's mind is concerned, you will probably be just as futile as if you were wrong." - Dale Carnegie
"No man has ever been able to hate another man intelligently."-

I agree with his views, he was one of the few Black people who didn't seek approval from Whites and was proud of his race. SOMETHING WHITES CAN LEARN. You don't need to keep seeking validation and approval from Black people. You can be proud to be who you are. Nevertheless, if a White person said what he did, he'd be lambasted by the SPLC as a hatemonger.

I wonder how people with black/white parents feel watching Ali talk down about the way they look and their parents' love for each other. He says he wants to be with his own, fine, that's his choice but here he is judging other peoples' choices by his own preferences and calling them idiots if they don't do what he prefers. Also, the birds he names are different species. Humans are one species.

Thank you. An intelligent person in the comment section. Finally. To further your point, Some pigeons have white feathers. Some pigeons have brown feathers. It’s a slight genetic difference in the same species, not a whole other species, just like skin color in humans. And Feather color won’t stop them from mating together. So yes, again, in agreement to this comment, Ali’s bird analogy is idiotic and flawed to the point of failure. You don’t know biology if you don’t understand why what he said is wrong.

You have the Freedom of speech. Yet there is polítics and people who slander and attack you for it. Only black people to he honest can talk about their race or any other race and not be slandered. If black people did a public speech riot that the city approved no other race would interfere and let them speak. Yet if KKK did it then they would interfere in it. Now if a speech is not hurting anyone. Why can't white people have a right to a free protest without blacks interfering. The reason why is because the blacks are chasing after whites and being ignorant. This is a invent that can be proven.

We cant all live extremes, our cultural sense is our source of sensibility and many of our cultural differences sharply contradict each other. This notion that the stability of a mixed/interracial family without leaning on one side of stability (since we are talking about the Dichotomy of black an white) is just plain false in most applications it only works in a few isolated Scenarios. Other than that relationships shouldn’t entirely be moved by racial fetishes.

The Dahomey tribe is a perfect example. They captured and enslaved their own people and made them work forced labor and made human sacrifices of them too. They also were involved in the Atlantic slave trade where they sold their own people to Europeans in exchange for guns, swords, pipes, tobacco and other European goods. It was then that years later, Great Britain abolished slavery and slaughtered the Dahomey tribe because they refused to end slavery. Anyone who's ever been a slave has owned a slave and anyone who's ever owned a slave has been a slave.

What do You think was happening prior to those years when Ali was growing up, during those years - and still happening around the time of those statements? Racism...who started it? White people...white supremacists foolishly thinking that they're superior to all the Races - but especially Black people. Hell, the government was against Black people with Jim Crow Laws and the like...so Ali wasn't saying anything that he wasn't seeing, experiencing or living. KKK was thriving, white cops beating the life out of Blacks, Black people being killed at random - even CHILDREN - why? For the simple and only reason that they were Black. Ali had the guts to say things how he saw it drawing from what was happening in the society that he was living in at the time. Where and why was JFK killed? Why was his brother Robert killed? Why was Abraham Lincoln killed? Apart from killing Blacks, Whites were even killing their own if they felt that these Presidents were trying to give Blacks equal rights. A common happening then was for Whites to rape their own white women and pin it on a Black man. Do you have any idea of the number of Black men who have been thrown in jail - and died there for crimes against white people that they did not commit? Crimes that White men committed? I could go on and on... So don't you sit here and judge Ali (RIP) by what he was saying without knowing the context and backdrop against which his statements were framed. We're in the 21st century and there are still racial currents running in the US. Do you know of the number of Blacks who have been killed in this century due to skin colour? What they are still experiencing inspite of things looking like it's ok? If you, white boy/man, had to go through what Blacks have experienced, you wouldn't have been around to say, 'idgaf!' But one day, believe it or not, both Blacks - and WHITES - will be standing at the judgement seat of God who will judge both, not by SKIN COLOUR but by the colour of their SOULS! Peace ✌🏿

That will give you proof Muhammad Ali was a hero to the world all ages color and religions . Lol Prince said he would mow Muhammad Alis front lawn if Muhammad Ali asked him too .

@@kevinsager5054And yet there’s an identity crisis. Latin America is the perfect example that race mixing doesn’t solve cultural differences and the problems associated with it. There is prejudice based on color. Latino countries with a larger black population also suffer discrimination in their nation. Indigenous people that didn’t mix with the Spanish or Europeans are also marginalized from the greater mestizo population like the ones here in the States. You even have racist whites or woke whites in countries like Mexico 😂. You have whites that wish they were brown or brown people that wish that were white. Then the “Chicano” population here in the States adopts the African American culture as their own while simultaneously discriminating blacks and make fun of anyone who they perceive as acting “white” if they have certain political beliefs or like country music lol. Chicanos also tend to clash with real Mexicans at times at work based on who “works better” or the Mexicans be dissing Chicanos if they don’t speak fluent Spanish, etc. Going back to old Mexico, then there’s the rejection of Spain when in reality the culture is actually more Spanish than indigenous. The only thing that remained in the mestizo population from the indigenous ancestry was some of the food, but everything else like music, religion, and language is from Europe or even African. The biggest lie out there is that the white man is the creator of racism, everyone can be a racist. So Muhammad had his preferences which is better than pretending to go along to get along.

A lot of people from all different races prefer to only date their own race and still respect and get along with everyone just fine. I don't understand why this concept is so hard for people to get. Many people calling ali stupid. Like if you think everyone that doesn't agree with everything everyone says in 2023 is stupid or racist that's actually extremely racist not everyone has to agree with what everyone thinks is right in 2023.

Blacks and Whites alike recognized that this ridiculously naive attempt at forcing integration would actually backfire into profound animosity between the races. (It did.) It took Ali a while to get to his point but it’s a valid assessment of the extra obstacles that comes with interracial relationships - particularly cultural differences and nuances that is developed throughout a lifetime. “Culture shock” is real and some interracial relationships can’t find common ground with how to conduct themselves. Ali’s point was cultural differences, while the host was viewing the matter from a broader one species standpoint.

Ali speaks the truth that many Whites wish they could say. It DOES NOT make one a 'racist' to not want the individual racial and ethnic groups to 'mix' and 'integrate' (miscegenation) and wipe out their individual traits, cultures and customs. The Japanese have a right to stay Japanese, the Nigerians have a right to stay Nigerian, and the English have a right to stay English. Why would you want to 'mix' all the racial/ethnic groups and cultures together if you respect 'diversity'? All that achieves is destroying 'diversity' and making everybody the same. Of course, its Whites in particular who are told they should 'mix' with non-whites and create mixed raced populations to replace ourselves, no other group is forced such propaganda to do this. (Think of the the White female/Black male couple constantly pushed in TV, commercials and films). And who is it who owns and runs the media? You know the answer.

Monkey Chatter Excellent point ! Even my Dad agrees who is sitting here with me enjoying a coffee in Costa's, I read it out to him and he said "excellent point" I concur ! However it's one thing saying it here and quite another out loud, but more power to those who can see the truth !

_As a Colombian I had to understand this by the goddamn hard way. After dating a lot of american girls, I understood that although there was a lot of physical and mental attraction. There was always something that does not let you connect properly in specific situations, and that factor is the cultural factor_

Ali's comments reflect both the times and his faith at that time in his life. He softened his views as time went on. But make no mistake, interracial relationships were really challenging then. And let's not kid ourselves, it has it's challenges still.

I've been binging Ali interviews on YT lately because he was a smart, insightful and overall decent man, but every now and then he comes out with some wtf comments. This is definitely one of them. These were getting damn close to segregationist arguments, and it was good to see the interviewer push back a bit. For all those who are defending his comments because it's Ali, just imagine it was a white man saying all that stuff about mixed race babies and preserving white culture. I can understand in those times not wanting to marry outside one's own race so as not to have to deal with the social consequences, but he seemed to be saying they shouldn't marry even outside those constraints and that it was unnatural to do so, even comparing mixed-race relationships among humans to what would be (in his analogy) inter-species relationships among birds. Total BS. For all his brilliance, Ali was still very much a product of his time and this interview shows the importance of never idolising someone to the point of hanging onto every word they say.

@@petergleave3198 I don’t know too much but I really hope Ali changed his views. The message he preached in this video is entirely against Islam, and Ali is a devout Muslim. Maybe in the context that he was living in, it would’ve felt as if white and black people were too different to each other to ever feel the love that they’d feel for their own. Perhaps that’s what inspired these views, but times have changed.
