IDK...I don't think, at least by Tyson's own words, that Doublas was fighting against Tyson the bully. I don't know why he would lie about it, but according to Tyson he wasn't the same before this fight...and he decided to retire bc he had too much respect for the sport to keep going knowing that his heart was no longer in it like it used to be.

This legit made me feel like crying, Because it’s so fucking beautiful, both of them showed what the human spirit is capable of when completely determined. Tyson was a strong opponent but Douglas had a greater resolve, when he went down in the later rounds I can feel like he’s thinking i can’t go down like this as the judge was counting, he got up and kept grinding at Tyson and won. Such a beautiful fight.

I started watching this fight on HBO at bedtime where I lived. I expected a quick knockout. My wife fell asleep. Finally Tyson floored Douglas and I started to turn it off. Buster got up. I kept watching it, I was enthalled with Douglas' grit and determination. That last round was amazing. You can say what you want, Tyson didn't train, blah, blah- but Buster Douglas had the heart of a lion, at least this one time in his life.

Buster Douglas used to live right next to my mom in Gahanna, Ohio (Columbus, Ohio) right before he started becoming a star. She knew he boxed, but didn’t know a whole lot about him. Also, look at the rumble in the jungle between Ali and Foreman. That count was ridiculous. Foreman's head was raised after he fell. Ali hit like a little girl. Foreman was NEVER knocked out, but the "bought and paid for" referee IMMEDIATELY counts a lucid Foreman out then runs immediately out of the ring. LMFAO And further proof is that Ali walked away from millions upon millions fighting foreman to fight a worthless old white dude instead. LMFAO Facts

This is probably the best heavyweight fight I've ever seen. I remember watching it live when it happened. I couldn't believe it then and I remember in the aftermath people were incorrectly saying Buster got in a lucky punch. But no, this was a masterful fight by a contender who's destiny beckoned, and who was ready to step up and grasp immortality aided by some luck and timing and a fight team in his corner with a precocious strategy to beat the unbeatable. It's instructive and poignant to see how small Tyson looked when he was on the back foot with a closed eye and in a dark place he'd not been before. Brilliant! Bravo! To both. The thing with tyson is that his early style of fighting , peekaboo etc , constant knee bends side to side movement etc is very tireing especially as you get older .. what most of his fans didn't realise is that it's very hard to constantly fight that way as a heavyweight, I watched tyson from the beginning and my uncle told me tyson will not be able to keep up that style of fighting as he gets older... he was right... my uncle was a very knowledgeable guy when it came to boxing..

Great analysis. Agreed entirely. Tyson had to do the right things at all times to make up for his lack of size. He did that early in his career but did not later and it cost him. Some guys could get away with doing things the wrong way, Ali or Foreman comes to mind but they had physical advantages.

Noticeably Tyson is not in his usual boxing style, that bobbing and weaving is not there, he look lost all through the fight. But you still give credit to Douglas, his approach on offense of not giving Tyson an inch to recover is incredibly delivered. The follow up after uppercut is extra ordinary.

From what I read Tyson was hard to handle and often went against his trainers not showing up for work outs. It's my understanding the night of the fight Tyson was out with the Japanese girls until the early morning hours. When He came in his friend told Tyson you have a fight in a about 12 hours. Tyson's exact words were" I can beat him if I were up two weeks without any sleep. When Tyson showed up at the ring his trainers could see he was tired and not ready for a fight. Even Tyson's corner men weren't ready and had to put ice in a rubber glove to apply to Mikes swollen face. No one was ready and took Douglas as another bum Tyson will put his lights out in a round or two. These were all the other fight so why will this be any different. Well Tyson got his ass handed to him as he should have.Or a my Grandpa once said "he got to big for his britches. Once he had 340 million dollars now he has a marijuana farm but so do a lot of pother thugs. Tyson said once when asked why he lost his 340 million. Answer: I dunno but I sure had a lot of fun. What I though was hilarious was the audience Japanese audience sat and watched the fight like wax statutes. So they had to dub shucking and jiving noise to make it more like a natural fight.I will never forget that fight over 30 years ago.

Preparation wins bouts. Tyson was unprepared. Douglas was fighting for his dead Mom.

Incredible to see how Buster Douglas bent Time to his will and was able to get up in 13 seconds in under 10 seconds. A true testament to the indomitable will of a powerful Sorcerer.

34:11 - You can count with the video's timer, from the time Douglas went down until he stood up was 14 seconds. The ref's slow count surely helped, it could've easily have been a KO.

Here there are, the best heavy fight of all times: 1). Ali - Foreman , Zaire 1974 2). Marciano- Walcott, Phill 1952 3). Ali- Frazier, Manila 1975 4). Douglas- Tyson, Tokyo 1990. 5) Clay- Liston. Miami 1.964.

Pfft BS! You just name this one and a few main media named classics. Pic one of the Bowe/Holyfield trilogy or prob 2, 3. AlivsFrazier is way more of superior boxing, Foreman was just punching wide and sloppy and Ali let him tiring out. Also Lewis/Holyfield was hard and good fighting
