Mike Tyson vs Henry Tillman - Full Fight - 6-16-1990
Bout Summary:
Tyson charged at Tillman once the opening bell sounded, causing Tillman to quickly retreat. Tillman offered very little offense during the fight, instead spending the first minute of the fight circling the ring in an effort to avoid Tyson's powerful punches. Tyson eventually caught up to Tillman and began throwing powerful combinations at Tillman, causing Tillman to clinch several times whenever Tyson would mount a substantial amount of offense. With around 25 seconds left in the round, Tyson trapped Tillman in the corner. Tillman attempted to throw a jab, but Tyson countered with a strong right hand that dropped Tillman to the mat. Tillman remained on his back as the referee counted him out and Tyson was named the winner by way of knockout at 2:47 of the first round.

It's a crime that Tyson wasn't given an immediate rematch with Douglas. Not only that but he had 4 fights after the Douglas loss before he was finally given a title shot, which was to be against Holyfield in 1991, but then the whole Desiree Washington 'incident' happened (or didn't) and the fight didn't happen. But imagine today a dominant heavyweight champion with 9 title defenses not only not get an immediate rematch, but has to fight 4 times before he got a title shot? And he was the face of boxing. The biggest star in the world. Absolutely crazy. unheard of. Had he been given an immediate rematch he'd have knocked Douglas right out, and history would be so different

Look at Tyson's eyes as he walks towards the ring before the fight: No longer the ultimate confidence, animal instinct -pure concentration like Rocky Balboa right before his 2nd fight with Clubber Lang. No.......Tyson looks unsure, somewhat timid, unconfident. He took care of Tillman, nonetheless -- but Tyson lost his 'edge' after he fire Rooney, I, and company. He no longer really progressed as a fighter; his skills slowly began to deteriorate instead...he began the slow downward spiral. So PINOCCHIO sad.......

@@gregmottola8539 None of those guys you mentioned with the exception of Foreman was nowhere in the conversation of top contenders. In the last two years before Tyson went to prison. His objective when he lost to Douglas in 1990 was to regain the belts. Now there was conversation for him and Foreman to fight I believe 89 or 90 but it fell through apparently Foreman admitted later he didn’t want to fight Tyson and apparently Tyson either both was scared of each other. And as I said before when he got out of prison objective was to get his belts back that he lost in 90. He fought the guys who had them at that time. The reality is his prison time ruined a lot of potential fights. Bowe, Morrison, Mercer. Had it not been for the prison time he would have fought those guys.

He was not the greatest fighter ever before prison. He had faced some good competition but not the type of great competition that other top all-time fighters faced. And yes, Tyson went downhill after Rooney but it was already going downhill beforehand as Tyson stopped training as hard, forgot his defense and combinations and started only looking for one big punch. If you watch all of his fights, you'll also see that around the time that he started winning titles he also started getting frustrated more easily, fouling more often, and allowing himself to be held regularly.

this guy was scared to death, taylor-made for tyson. Tyson was done being the baddest man on the planet by this time, he was getting hit a lot more, he was missing punches, and he was only throwing 1 punch at a time, which would work against guys scared to death. I think Foreman would have KO'd Mike on this same night if they had fought, and I know Holyfield would have taken it to his ass. Buster was a one hit wonder, and working off emotion from his mother's death, and its very commendable, but he never fought like that again in his life.
