Mike Tyson training with fight manager Cus Damato in the Catskills Mountains of New York

Спорт

Cus Damato discusses training Mike Tyson in Catskills of New York.
"in my opinion the mind and the emotions are about 75% of the body"
New York cities rich culture and history are also home to the legendary boxing trainer Cus Damato & Mike Tyson, whom is a Brownsville, Brooklyn native. In this short clip Cus is explaining how the mental fortitude of the up and coming champion is so strong that he would never believe or accept defeat!
Damato had the experience of previously training and managing Floyd Patterson & Jose Torres.
Cus goes on to explain how Tyson knocked out every opponent in the junior Olympics to win the national title twice.
You get to see Cus demonstrating the form & technique pinpointing the target areas for Tyson to strike, this is where we get a peak into the skills Cus imparted into the young champion forging him into the later World renown "Iron Mike Tyson".
Grapple Box is a blend of Boxing techniques and Grappling arts. We offer classes in New York at the heart of the financial district on 30 Broad St. New York, N.Y. 10038.
Our classes focus on self defense techniques and skills development taught by Brooklyn native Chris Reymann.

Learn BJJ no gi Submission grappling flow drills to improve your game on the mat that will increase your submission rate by providing you with seamless transitions from position to position. Avoid the stymy game of being caught up in a brute force match with your opponent by learning to flow into the next position before its to late. Taking the initiative to the next position will develop your timing to set the trap for your final move and finish the match. Each drill is broken down into specific positions that you can always develop as micro games within the larger scope of a grappling match. The skill sets provided here in these videos will allow you to have a clear road map or flow chart allowing you to understand what aspects to focus on to become a finisher. The focus is on primarily high percentage finishes proven & tested in the highest levels of competition by the likes of Gordon Ryan ,Gary Tonon, & Eddie Cummings in events such as ADCC, EBI , NAGA, Grapplers Quest, IBJJF, Grappling Industries, Fight to Win, Long Island Pride, Polaris & now UFC Fight pass. The content curation & techniques were acquired during my years in the blue basement under Professor John Danaher (Coach to George St. Pierre) at the Renzo Gracie academy in the Blue basement. After each session I was allowed to record the techniques under the condition they were not released until the proper time. They have been tried & proven & it has been while since the squad has moved on so I have decided to release them for public consumption, I hope you all enjoy. Please keep in mind many aspects were in development at the time so of course some details will vary & have been tightened up since, Happy viewing! All progressive comments are welcome!

To watch him in his early years during what many refer to as his "prime" 86-89 leaves you without any doubts about his incredible greatness. He just destroyed people. He had all the necessary skills including an illusive defense, footwork, and power with both hands. He was a precision machine and untouchable. His aggression and ferocity were unparalleled too. He was so exciting to watch. He was so different in his own way from the other greats too. His height and reach disadvantages never held him back like it would have with most fighters and as he lost touch with his original style and technique in later years these points became more vulnerable. Others were able to exploit them along with his preparedness where before he was just too on top of his game and his technique was flawless. He will never be forgotten in the boxing world.

Cus was such a father figure to Tyson. This really comes out in Tyson's autobiography, which I highly recommend (the stupid sensationalist text on the back cover that it is all about women and parties is just stupid IMHO). If Cus had lived another 10 years Mike's life would have been much different. Tyson lost his father (Cus legally adoopted him) just before Mike got crazy rich and famous- just when Mike needed him most, as Mike didn't have a father growing up. For all Tyson's massive success (he's my favorite boxer of all time), I think he would have been even more dominant if Cus had lived (even another 5 years).

One of many trainers from his era that's trained some if not the most renowned and highly nurtured athletes that will forever be in record and achieving what very VERY little could ever do today. The time Mike put in and the spark Cus help become a roaring blaze you couldn't ask for any better or if any more perfect tag team and tyson cleared the way for Cus and granted him the best wishes of achieving everything and then some what cus trusted, loved as a son but also disciplined tyson to be the best he is the best trainer in boxing history and I'm so happy at the same time saddened of his passing but knowing what he has passed onto tyson both as father figure and a trusted beloved is a trainer Cus D Amatos legacy of not created but guided and helped Iron mike focused his raw potential to be the best heavy weight champion, the most ferocious, precise and all round complete boxer the world may never see. And I hope mike tyson will teach his sons or by some miracle have a cus moment where he sees that same spark cus saw in him when he trained him. Only mike will do right and carry both legacy for a path for the next. RIP Cus D Amato 😢

The story of Mike and Cus seems like something out of a Greek mythology or something. A troubled fatherless youth who was all but destined to be a hoodlum forever, managed to meet this incredible man who took him under his wing and act as both a father, role model and a teacher to this boy and turned him from a troubled street rat to the youngest heavyweight Boxing champion of the world. Why isn't there some epic 3 hour movie of this? There's been attempts to make movies and series, but there's never been a hard hitting, powerful awards winning film about their story, and this has Oscar bait written all over it

@@demonmonsterdave that might be a better movie, but it’s not the one that the original poster was talking about. He was talking about a Greek myth like epic story. The story of Mike Tyson could never be that. The story of Mike Tyson could only be dark and violent, depressing and disturbing. With a lot of controversy.

Wow! It is impressive, wow, I have no words to describe his speed and accuracy! It’s second to none! What roll model can do for young children is what we are missing in this world, it’s what we are missing in the greatest country in the word, USA 🇺🇸! I’m a legal Brazilian immigrant sense 1987 and I was 6 years old when I came here with my parents and brother. My parents always worked and my brother and I where together all the time but we never had sports because we thought it cost money which it did. My parents never knew enough English to understand that there ways around that and they never had time. Look at what Mike accomplished, we need to get out there and do our part we have way too many American talent being wasted with just free government money and no roll models

Its sad Cus wasn’t able to enjoy the gem he himself uncovered. I mean I know he’s not for the money or fame, but I feel like boxing trainers have their pride on having a legendary boxer on their disposal/resume. Tyson is his legendary boxer just like Dundee to Ali, Futch to Frazier, Roach to Pacquiao etc. etc
