Mike Tyson: The undisputed truth about prison

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson knows all about the harsh sound of prison doors slamming. Tyson spent a grueling three years behind bars after being convicted of raping a beauty pageant contestant in 1992. It put his life in a tailspin and crippled his boxing career, but it also set him on a path to redemption. For more information please visit www.hlntv.com/video/2013/05/17...

    Mike grew up on the streets. Prison wasn't the adjustment it was the life of fame and wealth that was scary. He understood prison and the people in there. It was the people in his other life that really ate him alive.

  • @MrFafman

    @MrFafman

    5 жыл бұрын

    If you want facts then let's be specific. He was sent to a youth center and then later did prison time. My point was only that prison was more familar to him having grown up on the streets than a life of fame and fortune. If you think a youth center more closely resembles staying at the Ritz Carlton than it does prison, then you need to think again.

  • @MrFafman

    You apparently have not acquired the wisdom not to call names when disagreeing with someone, but glad to hear you have managed to stay out of trouble. I am not making excuses for Tyson, just stating that fame and fortune have been too much for many, and certainly for him. I will still maintain that Brownsville in those days sure looked a lot more like jail than the Ritz Carlton and private planes.

    Believe it or not People like Mike Tyson are actually the ones that get picked on for a fight the most in prison. Everyone wants to claim they knocked out the toughest guy in the world. So when you are a Mike tyson you might actually be in more danger in prison than a guy who cant fight

  • @thechad7803

    @thechad7803

    +HONESTO UNO ok, the question was thus "Were you ever tested in prison?"not were you ever assaulted by a group of razor having man thugs. The denotation of "tested" means exactly "Did a single man approach you wanting to try his luck against Mike Tyson?" I realize that you guys think every documentary you see on prison is real and they're just foaming at the mouth for a shot at a prime Tyson but I'm saying I doubt it. Now if the question was "Were you in fear of being jumped by an anonymous group of individuals as a notch on their belt" Well that'd be somewhat different, wouldn't it? Tyson feared no single motherfucker in that prison and every motherfucker in that prison but you bet your sweet ass they didn't want none, regardless. Unless they were fucking mental and then that's also different

    copypasta I was there in the courtroom in Indiana for that highly-publicized trial. Let me first say that Mike Tyson did NOT commit the crime he was convicted for. Don King, who was Tyson's promoter, hired the attorney who would defend Tyson. That attorney did not specialize in rape cases. He was a DIVORCE attorney. Major mistake, possibly King's biggest one ever. You see, it was Mr. Divorce Attorney against a team of Indiana's finest rape specialists. In the ring, it was the equivalent of Danny Garcia v Rod Salka. The DNA was there, all over Ms. Desiree Washington. Of course it was. She had just had consensual sex with Mike Tyson. But the prosecution took Ms. Washington's story of how Tyson savaged her when she went to his room at 2:00am for an autograph. Photos were shown to the jury of Ms. Washington which made them cry. All the while, she sat on the stand, all buttoned up to the neck looking so prim and proper, dabbing at her eyes with a tissue. As she did, and as the jury was told the tale of the savagery which Ms. Washington said she endured, Tyson glanced at me a few times and shook his head as if to say, "I never did that to her." Of course he didn't. The story is one of a woman scorned, asked by Tyson to leave his room after the act was over. She got back at him by ripping her blouse, messing her hair and hailing a cab to take her to the hospital. In the emergency room, Ms. Washington told a tale of being raped and savaged by Tyson. Naturally, his DNA was all over her. No, I don't believe there was corruption in the case. There was just incompetence right out of the gate by DK in hiring a pilot to fly an F-16 who had nothing but Cessna 150 experience. The prosecution told a story to the jury and sold it. Tyson had a reputation as a bad boy and it was easy, especially with photos and a believable story, to make the jury believe their tale. As Tyson says in his one man show "Undisputed Truth"--"I did a lot of things I should have been arrested for, but wasn't, and was arrested for something I did not do." This was the one thing he did NOT do. -Randy G.

    Mike Tyson may be the very definition of a redemption story. I _think_ it shows what a confusing thing redemption is. Thomas Merton said something like, "simply being loved makes a person deserving of love". So powerful the idea that it's up to us to forgive and love. That is the only requirement for a better world. Someone chose to love Mike Tyson even after all of the sin and when he speaks now I think that humility really comes through. I've got a long journey ahead of me but this video is a nice place to stop and ponder a bit. Thanks to the uploader!

    I think wrong? Interesting...you do understand that measuring someone's intelligence via the 'IQ' score is an historical example of segregation. Furthermore, I doubt with great sincerity that 'IQ' scores are a true measure of intelligence based on the fact they are culturally biased. 'IQ' scores are increasingly used less and less as a testament to an individual's level of intelligence. Your retort to my original post reads like a 5th grade response; I suggest you read a book on proper writing mechanics and practice proper research methods before you start throwing around hollow plagiarized claims.

    THE GOPROVLOG Prime would of beat all ??? Your a complete idiot that knows absolutely nothing about boxing ! The best fighters Tyson ever fought he lost to them. His resume is not loaded with household names. Outside of a 38 year old Larry Holmes and a blowed up cruiser weight in Michael Spinks, Tyson has not beat one hall of fame fighter. And he did lose in his prime..... To a ham & egger club fighter name Buster Douglas. You should erase your comment it’s exposing your IQ.

    I want to believe he is innocent, but he had the issue of touching Teddy Atlas' niece on the butt when he was 15 she was 11, then you have Desiree Washington, which sent him to prison, then on top of that Robin Givens said she was beaten. That is three instances. Even Kobe only had the one time. I think Tyson was impulsive and scary and maybe got away with more than he was punished for. But well never know.

Its Cus D'amato from beyond the grave guiding Mikes hand

    He said in his autobiography that he was terrified of the inmates that they were the real deal, he knew he couldn't play around or test anyone there Bec they had connections with hidden weapons on them . He managed to get by bc he befriended them. Even Mike Tyson is not safe in prison. So many people would try to jump him just to prove something. If anything I think he would be more targeted bc he was iron Mike.

    Mr. Tyson, I call you Mr. because you DESERVE that respect. I can't say what it's like to see you answer these questions. I've seen the interview that you (rightfully I think) walked out of. I've seen quite a few others where your intelligence and maturity shine through. It's good to see someone stand fast and tall in their view and not cave to "popular opinion". To come up from where you were is one of the most impressive things I've ever seen in a person. Wish you all the best.

    I always wonder what would have been if Cus hadn't passed when Mike was so young. I think losing his mentor, the only person that truly believed in him and invested in him was highly detrimental to Mike's development. It also opened him up to all the parasites in the boxing world while he was at such a vulnerable state of mind. After all he has been through, it's wonderful to see him doing well in what seems to be in a happy and peaceful state of mind.
