Before moving onto the heavy bag or the Willie bag, and practice the 8 sets of punches taught by Cus D'amato, I always warm up first with Mike Tyson shadow boxing from previous videos and just constantly moving my head in this video. I highly recommend everyone to practice the previous three Mike Tyson shadowboxing videos , they help a lot in getting into the rhythm of the pee-ka-boo style It's really taxing on the body in longer periods, but it's darn effective. Coach Tom and Mike Tyson know what's up , keep them Tyson videos coming , thx a hell lot , coach

Always on point coach Tom! I have to say I really appreciate your perspective on boxing strategy. It’s like you see the small subtle things that are truly great advantages and advance movements. No disrespect to any other online/gym trainers I think you got a special eye for it. As a Martial Artist I really appreciate you doing this video on Tyson’s training and fight strategy. Cus D’mato gave Mike a special gift. I work with a small group of students. And I was doing these shifts/ shuffle drills. I use a lot of centerline and centralline theory in my teaching. It’s my back ground in Wing Chun Kung Fu( William Cheung linage) so everything you just talked about in this video I can relate to. I draw a chalk line on the ground to represent the centerline and how to get off it using the shifts/shuffle footwork. In my style we switch from side to side in more of what we call a side natural stances, similar to Tyson stances. It’s gives the appearance of a more squared oN stance but makes it easier to use both hands equally. It’s not your common stands you see from WC people. Still transitioning from southpaw to orthodox and back in a heated exchange is a plus. Especially when done right. This is one of the things that made Tyson so deceptive and destructive as a fighter, at least in his early career. Many people missed that? Everyone just looked at his power and aggressiveness. And missed the true science of what he was really doing. Thanks for all your videos. Oh wait,..one more thing I noticed you mentioned the “straight right hand” . Again not something I hear to often today? Everyone says cross for the most part. I’m I crazy, they’re two different punches right? Lol is the straight right just forgotten? Also what’s you opinion on the lead overhand.. I don’t here that much? Matter of fact there’s only two videos on KZread about it, but a slew of videos on the overhand right? You see it more in MMA, but they leap with it, or use it was a distraction for a take down, or even grinding somebody against the cage then lean on them with shoulder chargers and lead overhands. I think it’s just one of that punches that just happen but you don’t really train it? Like The high risk high reward leaping bolo punch. It’s rare but it happens.

Great instruction coach. What gets me is that you had to be really brave and very sure of yourself to adopt and carry out the ' peek-a-boo style of boxing. Yes, you could initiate it with a jab, but often you only had your smarts, bravery and courage to step towards another man with only your confidence in your ability not to get punched and hurt coming in. I think you hit the nail on the head in other videos saying it was reliance on having your footwork combined with your upper body movement drilled and in sync. This reminds me of the book All Quiet On The Western Front with the German soldiers under Corporal Himmelstoss being drilled like zombies to the point where they would perform their tasks without even thinking, because this would be the difference to them between life and death when they had to advance or attacked under enemy fire. It really was a case of do or die, and in the midst of battle these openings appear fleetingly and the constant drilling means they could be acted on almost without thinking. Sorry, it's a little long-winded but that book always reminds me of a boxer's life. Keep up the great work. Someplace, somewhere Mike is smiling.

Another thing I'd love to note as well, when it comes to the windshield wiper slipping. On the slip bag Mike Tyson almost exaggerates the movement and only moves his upper body which helps develop that spring in his lower back so when he decides to slip with his whole body it's much more springy and flexible because of the amount of training the lower back had

I'm excited! Very relevant for short guys like me who have to cut the distance all the time. I remember one former coach telling me to use the "Tyson system" and briefly demonstrating very few aspects such as creating angles and upper body moving. But not a word pertaining to the various stances and the proper footwork. So I've tried the "Tyson system" while keeping an orthodox stance. (It doesn't really work.) Come to think of it, Tyson is so fast I never realized he could switch from neutral to orthodox or southpaw. It's only after one coach dissects it that I'm like "Oh yeah, that's right. He's doing this and that..." Thanks a lot, Coach!

I think a good explanation for what you are doing at 10:00 is that you are moving your body, but keeping your center of gravity in the same place in space. When I'm practicing switch ups, I imagine there is a point in space where my weight needs to be, and I'm just adjusting my body to a different angle while keeping that point in space basically the same. I don't lose balance, and I keep all my loaded power because I'm merely transferring that center of gravity to the other hip.
