Tyson isnt even average height for a HW, he's very short. Which is why the peekaboo style worked so well for him (while he still used it)

Tyson changed boxing forever. I remember boxing being pretty boring when I was a kid. There would be a good 3 rounds of two guys just kind of feeling each other out. Then along came Tyson. As soon as the bell rang, he was IMMEDIATELY throwing knockout punches.

Nice! I experienced the Ali era the same way, Tyson brought me back to heavyweight boxing. In between I watched Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Duran, etc.

I'll never forget the time that my brother ordered pay-per-view for a Tyson fight. He invited some friends and family over to watch the fight and we all got ready to see what we thought was going to be a really good fight. The fight ended in less than a minute into the first round when Tyson knocked the guy out cold ...My brother was so mad because the fight ended so quickly and he was out about 20 bucks for the pay-per-view.. We all laughed , of course, but my brother , not so much.

What I like the most about Mike Tyson is how he went from being this devouring beast to an almost Chinese philosopher. Which shows how he got indoctrinated from a young age by trainers to become a fighting machine and he got misunderstood for the best part of his life thanks to that. Tyson is much smarter and much more Zen than anyone could have thought.

Had Cus not died when he did, history would speak very very differently about Mike Tyson. Its a shame we never got to see him at his best, because Don King and Robin destroyed him.

Mike was always brilliant but people only saw him as the baddest man on the planet. Go watch his old interviews, even going through all his craziness and how intense he was he was a deep and intelligent guy. He’s older and more relaxed now so he expresses and controls himself better.

I watched a lot of boxing back when it was broadcast on the major networks. There were lots of fantastic fighters then, but Tyson was a BEAST!

Nobody was ever upset to pay for pay-per-view and Tysons fight would end in 30 seconds lol, it was worth it just to watch the destruction that meant.

I've said it many many times... I would put Tyson 1985-1990 against ANYBODY in their prime! He's the best period! most exciting explosive pure destruction! fighter! With insane speed and power. There was never anyone like him before or after!

One thing that is lost on folks is that Iron Mike was only 5'10" tall. He was short for a heavyweight, but he fought like a raging bull.

These clips don't show it but Tyson was uniquely compassionate to guys he knocked out. He was always there checking on their safety afterwards.

Someone once said we can see how hard someone hits but they could hear the punch of tyson # Godson❤

In addition to his speed and power have you noticed that his opponents are all usually taller than he is so, his short but compact size also gives him the advantage of sneaking in those fast upper cut punches from below even if they have a longer each advantage. He gets in close and hammers them from down inside and up

Tyson's size is exactly why Cus had him master the peekaboo style of boxing, it matched him perfectly, and when he stuck to that he was utterly unstoppable. He went away from that and just went raw power after Don King ran off the last of his trainers from Cus's days.

Hate to break it to y'all: 2023 training videos of 57 yr old Mike Tyson NOW STILL has his explosiveness, power & precision. His can compete NOW in heavyweight if he wants ( which is mind-blowing frfr) he would just have to end the fight in 4 rounds b4 he gets too tired.

Tyson knocked Frazier out and still hit him five more times before he even fell.

My friend John, saw Mike fight one of his last Amateur Fights in Albany NY, when Mike was about 17 years old. The next day, John told me "I just watched the Next Heavy Weight Champion of the World!" It was obvious even then, that Cus DiMato had found his next Champion! If Cus had lived another 5 years, he would have been able to teach Mike how to Handle being the Champ, just like he did with Floyd Patterson. Floyd would come to the Boys Club in Catskill and freely give his time to us boys. Nicest Man in the World , a Class Act! Mike just missed the Last Important Lessons and had to figure them out the Hard Way....

The best of Mike Tyson (as a boxer) unfortunately wasn't shown in this video. He was an amazing, powerful boxer....but as soon as the bell rang, he was the first one there to check on his opponent and hope that they were OK. Mike has a big heart in such a brutal sport.

People listen to Mike and his speech impediment and think he's stupid, when he's actually quite intelligent. He was an absolute student and scholar of the sport. He knew every boxer before him, could tell you every move they made in every fight, and he RESPECTED them. Unlike most today. His power was actually secondary to his speed and accuracy. But his boxing IQ is one of the best of all time. Then Don King got him hooked on drugs and destroyed everything Cus built.

funny you should say Tyson had "cat like skills" because his legendary trainer Cus D'Amato trained Tyson in his gym in "Catskill" NY. Cus later became Mike's legal guardian.

It's an honor to be hit by Tyson !

He was my generations greatest & the youngest champion, he was a complete beast! Marijuana & pigeons have really settled Mike down, I watch his podcast all the time ✌💖☮

Prime Mike was a raging behemoth! He ran rampant all over the HW division. When Cus D'Amato passed on Mike self destructed.

Listened to Tyson's biography its amazing he survived his life. Its long at 18 hours but a riveting tale from one extreme to the other. Mikes a good guy not the animal he's often made out to be . Mike in his prime 18-20 was untouchable , easily the most famous athlete on the planet and the internet didnt exist.

And there's always the Mike Tyson Mysteries to watch next. Brutally hilarious.

I loved Tyson, he had so much power. Back in the day, I knew I could watch one of his fights and still make it to the club by 11 or 12. 😅

something i dont think yall noticed about the Lou Savarese shot. He was unconscious standing up, then mike hit him again while he was standing and woke him up. The Ref seen it, and that is why he called the fight.

I agree with you, Mike is smart and he likes to read from what I understand. I would love to sit and just talk with him about the world and life (no boxing). I think it would be very interesting.

When he's up against a tall fighter, he's using his size to his advantage while using his opponents advantages against them. mike would keep low, bobbing and weaving; drawing them down. He would EXPLODE upwards with an uppercut, that if it didn't end the fight there.. it was the beginning of the end lol

Johnny Carson (old talk show host) had a joke about Tyson. "I recorded the match on VHS. The cassette had 8 seconds of leader tape. I missed the whole fight!"

On tv there was a USA celebration showcasing a boxier, one round exhibition. The young boxer had blazing hand speed and I thought that he is one fast middleweight. After the round the announcer stated "There is young heavyweight prospect Micheal Gerard Tyson" - I thought that a heavyweight with that hand speed=scary

Mike is just fascinating to watch!!!!

Every head shot from Tyson must result in serious concussions. Damn! How many ribs has he broken too?

I remember when Life magazine put Iron Mike on their cover in his boxing shorts. You could just see by the look in his eyes and his solid build he was not someone to trifle with. It was an awesome picture.

I remember back in the early 90s, I went with some friends to bar to watch a Tyson fight on pay per view on the big screen. I misjudged my trip to the restroom as the fight was about to start, and when I came back out 2 minutes later, The fight was already over. I think it was the Sphinx fight. (91 seconds)

Althrough the 90s I managed a zoo on the outskirts of Catskill, NY. That is where Tyson trained from his teens. Arnold Swarzenegger's brother has a construction business there too.

A huge fan of Bruce Lee's "one inch punch", putting every ounce of weight into the punch. From the feet to the shoulder.

I remember people having pay-per-view parties for Tyson fights. People would be so mad they bought $100 worth of food for Tyson to K.O. a guy in Round 1. 😂

Announcer: "This guy's showing he's got guts!!" Other announcer's thought bubble: 'Ya, look at his guts spread all over the ring and the first 3 rows. lol'

I remember when pay-per-view came out and it was relatively expensive, for the time, a LOT of people were upset that the Tyson fights were over so quick given the money they spent!

Holyfield should have been eliminated in that fight way before Tyson bit him. He was standing on Tysons feet so he couldnt back away and was constantly head butting him. That ref had it out for Tyson. Even in Tysons first loss to Douglas, he had him on the mat for 16 seconds and the ref refused to count. Dont get me wrong, Tyson had some legit losses, but those 2 imho werent 2 of them.

First time I've ever heard anyone describe Mike Tyson's punches as the scratch of a cat.

Fun fact 6:45 Michael Jack Johnson not only lost the fight, that blow that Tyson delivered knocked out three of his opponents teeth

The Frazier ko was an assassination. An execution. Holmes got his ass destroyed.

Most of Tysons pure power comes from his perfect technique and lightning speed, actual strength was 3rd importance. He speaks about it in some videos, he says his rib shots are attempts to break a rib, thats his set up punch for his upper cut. He does that 2 punch combo regularly in all his matches. 1st punch forces opponents to lower their guard to the chin Unfortunately, Tysons coach who discovered him died just before he won the championship belt. After his coach died, Tysons style changed, making him much easier to hit and became less offensive; resulting in his 6 loses. He also got into much trouble outside the ring without his coach as his role model father figure contributing to his slow fall. If his coach, adopted father, didnt pass away, Tyson would of been undefeated in his entire career.

Some of these clips are from when he was 16. Notice how he'll hit the kidney area, and his opponent drops his hands exposing his face, and Tyson just goes for it. Knock out.

Young Tyson threw hydrogen bombs. Old Tyson drops knowledge bombs.

Every fighter that fough Iron Mike was like getting brutally punished

2 things separated a prime Tyson from everyone else. First off his foot work and hops were incredible but by far the thing that set him most apart was the amount of power he had in his left hand. His right was off the charts but his left wasn't far behind. He knocked so many guys out with his patented double left hooks to the body then head.

As powerful as Tyson was though, he's not one of the hardest hitters in history. He was just so pin-point accurate with his hits that he would wreck anyways. Dont get me wrong he was monsterously powerful, but his accuracy was super ignored. Cus had him hitting within an inch of his target even on moving targets.

@Dale Hammers sure there were guys that had more power in their right hand (prime Foreman for example) but I can't think of anyone that had as much power in both hands than Tyson. I wouldn't be surprised if he knocked more people out with his left hook than with his right. His 2 punch left to the body, left hook to the head was devastating. But yeah Tyson's speed and accuracy with that power was incredible.

@Dale Hammers and the footwork/hops he was taught by big K was the basis that Lomachenko's father expanded with his son. Not sure if you have checked out Loma, "The Matrix" but you really should. Probably the best footwork in boxing today.

Of course, now you're going to have to find a video of Muhammad Ali's highlights. He wasn't as brutal as Tyson, but in his prime he'd likely have taken 2 out of 3 from Tyson in his prime. Ali was a lot more of a showman, and a lot more fun to watch.

You guys should react to David tua’s knockouts. David tua was a knockout artist like Tyson back in the 90s and is one of the fights we never got to see tua vs Tyson would have been crazy. Tua had so much power and an iron chin never been knocked out or hurt or dropped. They counted a knockdown late in his career when he was old but I wouldn’t count that one it was more of a slip. Tua was a beast it’s just too bad he came up when Lennox Lewis was king at the heavyweight division

I dont think Tyson would fight Ali. Tyson went in with the intent to kill, he could never feel that for Ali. Tyson worshiped Ali like a god.

Tyson himself says Ali would win, but thats out of pure respect. Tyson DESTROYED Trevor Berbick for what he did to Ali. Personally, I think Tyson would beat Ali, but I think the case can be made the other way easily too. To be fair though, I dont think Tyson would have fought Ali. Which, imho Holyfield absolutely deserved. He was a dirty ass fighter. He was constantly standing on Tysons feet so he couldnt back away from punches and head butted him repeatedly. Holyfield was one of the dirtiest fighters in history, not to mention all the steroids the man was on.

After 36 consecutive impressive wins, Mike Tyson fought James Buster Douglas, who was given no chance of beating Tyson. A lot of people came up off the couch watching that fight like they were in a beer commercial.

Tyson had Douglas beat before he ever took Tyson down. Douglas was on the mat for 16 seconds and the ref refused to count. Plus ALL of Tysons equipment for his trainers was "mysteriously" missing, including his cut stuff and everything else. All they had was towels and ice, because thats all his team could find in a pinch. To be fair, I'm glad Tyson lost that fight, because it started him on the path of starting to get help for his massive drug abuse and other things, but that fight was rigged from the start.

I watched a video here on You Tube "22 Times Mike Tyson Delivers 1st Round KO". Ringside seats at heavyweight fights can cost thousands of dollars. How ripped off would you feel? At least there would be some undercard fights to watch. Tyson's fights are over in 90 seconds.

I really really want to see a flash of the old Iron Mike when he fights Jake Paul.

I believe it would be a knockout punch to react to Mike's mind not his fist

Very highly reccomend watching "Muhammad Ali - The Greatest (Greatest Ali Video on KZread)". Its pretty long but well worth the watch!

5:20 The referee on this one should have been suspended indefinitely for allowing this many headshots without the guy even trying to protect himself. He should have stepped in at least four punches earlier.
