This is a great perefourming by and empressive young feller comping and stomping like Barney Kessell when Barney was 16 Year Old in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

The bass player and drummer teaching at the guitar academy. Not sure how much practice time they had before backing Mike.

@@txpommie this is kind of an unusual standard if you don't play it exactly like they do in. The Metropolitan Area . At the college near me William Paterson , one of the guys made a backing track with a real group it is on the Hal Leonard Jammin series Jazz Tracks . The way it is played is a combination of latin and swing , the chords are pretty easy on guitar but the arrangement is held together by the Bass and the drum beat almost sounds wrong ...LOL Like the drummer is messing with you ...

I think it’s the sound engineering, drums and bass kinda overpowered the lead.

Interesting take on Green Dolphin Street. Its the Pat Metheney sound on a Jazz standard, complete with a long Metheneyesqe intro. It is fast playing that gets tedious after the 10th time through. You never get the switch between the Latin and Swing sections of this standard, which is a large part of its charm. It may be technically interesting, but it is not particularly musical and goes on way to long.

The fact that it says "Guitar Workshop" on the back probably means his rhythm section is comprised of people not as seasoned as him. It seems like he's just being a cool cat and jamming along. Stern is a great artist with a sound and language of his own. I think you're over-analyzing something which really doesn't need it.
