this guy actually has a really cool life story. after going to duke, he released several songs that became hits such as cooler than me, bow chika wow wow, etc and then he didn't know how to handle the fame that came with it. slipped into a state of depression and after a while decided that he wanted to see if he could be happy with just music and bare necessities. he packed anything that would fit in his suitcase and gave everything else away and brought a guitar with him. After this trip he got some inspiration and found his identity in music and now hes making music he likes, not music that will be hits. Hes approving remixes too so he'll have more popular songs im sure.

I love the lyrics to this song. They're so deep & meaningful. He kept it extra real in every line.

"Why don't you just tell the truth?" Even though that question sparked such a good song, and arguably changed Mike's perspective on songwriting for the better, I do think there's also a destructive element to it. Not all songs have to be about truth and real life stories. If that was true, your artists would run out of things to write about. There has to be an element of fiction or borrowing from other peoples experiences, in my opinion.

Good weed, (indica/sativa.hybrid recommend) some xanax and a "pill" which was probably molly or possibly oxycodone that he was referring to ....is a great cure fore depression (temporarily) lol pro tip: go extra easy on the molly or oxy.... you don't want to become an addict to either of those substances TRUST.... weed and xanz are just dandy tho.

Wow, what a genuine interview and fantastic singing voice! I remember hearing the original version years after the remix and was blown away. That was the first time I actually paid attention to the lyrics and realized how vulnerable and honest it was. What a beautiful and sad song, that's also a cautionary tale about fame and drug use. Ironically, the mega-popular remix was the very thing that was being blasted at clubs and parties as people got high.

jskvaerner True, he didn't realize the remix will take off that quick and go viral. His song "cooler then me" he thought that was his final hit he could not get higher then that until seeb came and remixed it. Mike even made them a thank you video for it
