HE FOCKING LEFT THE BAND

When Mike left Dream Theater, I followed him. This proves who was the heart of that band. Nothing against DT, they're great musicians, but Mike is who got me into prog music. I wish I could have been there to see it. Cheers Mike.

Well let's face it. They're all there because they're DT/MP fans. Makes sense for the guitarists, who likely grew up listening to DT/JP, to have JP signature guitars. :)

Petrucci has born a generation of incredible guitarists. He was probably one of the most influential of the 90s along with Dimebag.

Fuck it took me almost 3 minutes to see Ted Leonard and Daniel Gildenlow there!

I saw these guys play in Mexico City last weekend and I miss them so badly already. Just simply thank you for existing and sharing the awesomeness you've got.

sourcescience I'd be willing to bet that the only one that would be an asshole about it would be Labrie. After all, the suite is MP's project, and I'm pretty sure JP, JM and JR wouldn't care.

I don't know if it was intentional in the originals to not break the songs but my mind was completely blown when Glass Prison ended and the band went straight in to This Dying Soul with zero break. I never even realized the two songs were in the same key until that moment. BIG face palm! Ah, well. I still hear stuff in Tales From Topographic Oceans I haven't noticed and I've heard that like sixty times.

You guys should record a acoustic version of this song using the chorus before the break down "i am ready". Like a 3 min outro. Make it really dark and slow, would sound really impactful. Cant believe it wasnt done before!

The Twelve Step Suite is Mike Portnoy's greatest triumph, without a doubt. If it were to be released as a concept album, it would rival to the magic of Sola Scriptura, Blomljud, Remedy Lane, Doomsday Afternoon, Dear Hunter's whole freaking discography... It is a marvel of interwoven themes, inventive musicianship, powerful lyrics spanning the full range of emotions associated with overcoming addiction, and the perfect musical environment for experiencing those emotions. Would recommend to anyone, ever.

i hope we get to see him play this with DT some day. still makes me sad the way the split came about

It's kind of adorable how you can tell all the Haken guys know this shit like the backs of their hands. It's cool to see the guys who grew up listening to Dream Theater next to someone like Daniel Gildenlow, who is an OG like Mike and has honestly probably never heard this song before they sat down to rehearse it.
