Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (Genesis) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
Ойындар
A playthrough of Sega's 1995 Sega Genesis beat 'em up, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
Played through on Hard Mode.
Have you ever sat back and thought, "Man, I really want to play Streets of Rage, but I want to play Power Rangers too! I can't decide?" Well, apparently Sega and Sims had you in mind when they created this surprisingly excellent beat em up featuring the multifarious group of teen heroes that turn into dinosaur robots.
I say surprising, because I clearly remember seeing a full-length review of this in GamePro back when it came out, and I remember scoffing at it, thinking that it was an utterly absurd idea. (To be fair, though, in 1995 I was the ripe old age of 13: faaaar to old and mature to watch Power Rangers - lol, I seriously hated this show back then - I think I was just too old for it. My sister loved it - I thought it was for kids). Well, because of that bias, I didn't play this until several years when I grabbed a fistful of clearance carts from a FuncoLand, and lo and behold! It's an awesome game!
It's pretty simple, it moves quickly, sounds great, and is wicked easy if you want to play a beat em up that doesn't brutalize the novice player to the point of submission. Even though it's easy, it's a lot of fun - the lack of any sort of frustration probably helps that immensely!

As well as the best version of a video game based on MMPR: The Movie, as unlike the Super NES port, which looks like it started out as a sequel to the MMPR game with Lord Zedd and the Thunderzords, this version stays true to the plot of the movie (and as an added bonus, it even includes extra episodes based on three episodes of the second season).
When my brother and I were teenagers, whenever we played this, we'd always argue who'd play which ranger or megazord. Sweet memories...
That soundtrack is fantastic.
Okay yeah, this version beats the SNES version. It incorporates the story from the show and the movie (treating them as part of the same canon even though they aren't), and you get to fight as the Thunder and Ninja Zords. The SNES game does none of that.

Tell me about it. Actually good combat (Reminds me of Battletoads Double Dragon), has multiplayer (Oddly not a guarantee for these games), lets you play as a bunch of different zords and includes Tommy, and utilized the best aspects of the genesis sound chip with the audio.

This game was EVERYTHING to me as kid...pretty much anything PR was 😎👍
I used to rent this game from a place in my hometown called Carmen’s (think Blockbuster but about 1/8 the size). I probably rented it enough times to pay for it twice. Eventually they announced they were going out of business. In the 90s, games were a lot harder to come by after they had been out for a few years, so I figured I’d rent it one last time before they closed, since I’d likely never see it again after that. I walked in and the owner turned around, grabbed this game from her shelf, handed it to me, and said something like JUST TAKE IT 😅 I still have it to this day lol
love how the designs of the rangers' suits were fully detailed, unlike in SNES the suits were exactly the same but different colors except for white ranger
Now I truly love the Genesis version over the SNES version. :D This does have the feel of Streets of Rage. :D Also, the voices are very great, too. :D
The SNES version was done by Bandai themselves, which from what I see is a bit of a reskin of their first SNES Power Rangers game, with some tweaks. Bandai's subsidiary Banpresto gave the Mega Drive/Genesis it's own unique game, hence why they did so much more with it. True there weren't that many levels based on the movie, but they made up for that by adding Season two stories into the game. Plus using the actual soundtrack from the show was a terrific bonus. :) Thumbs up goes to Bandai's B-squad. (Thumbs up if you get that reference). :) The SNES version in itself though isn't a bad game either. It just feels like you get a bit more with this game.

Yeah, my theory is that it started out as a sequel that was meant to be set during the second season, as the enemies in that version were the Z-Putties and the bosses being monsters from season two, with one of them being made for the game, and Ivan Ooze was put in as final boss, replacing what could have been planned to be a fight against Lord Zedd.
I remember being a kid and finding the secret Lord Zedd battle for the first time!! Ahhhh it was so awesome and it blew my little mind away!
Listening to the symphonic power rangers theme song at the end it always a pleasure to my ears. And then when it says "Power rangers!", goosebumps.

It's utterly baffling that none of these damn movie games adapt the Pheados events. The sega games are the only ones that even mention them, and they're never playable for whatever reason. Were they too lazy to make a second sprite set for the Ninjetti powers?
@MetoF50Narliev
Жыл бұрын
It most likely started as a "replay major episodes of the show" type of game, then all of a sudden they had to bank on the movie release so they switched the sprites of the putties in the first two levels with ooze men and switched whatever giant you were supoosed to fight in the third level with scorpitron and hornitor. Final boss doesn't even look like Ivan Ooze, so it's probably the original one the player was supposed to fight in the first place.

GREAT MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS : THE MOVIE (GENESIS ) 1995 PLAYTHROUGH !!!
First off the first and only power rangers movie to predict future Ranger colors and a kid ranger. At the end of the movie Tommy is talking to the kid Fred Kelman who was teaching him martial arts commending him on a job well done on saving the parents at the construction site from leaping to their doom, even if bulk and skull helped a little because he recruited them to help. Tommy states the following hey I hear your even in line to be a ranger. Than Fred recites Fred Kelman the silver ranger or Fred Kelman the gold ranger. And the movie rolls credits with fireworks and music by Bon Jovi - what dreams are made of - credits roll for a moment and cuts to goldar on zedd’s throne proclaiming himself king as suddenly Rita and Zedd come back and goldar and mordant both say uh oh and the credits roll again and the song trouble plays. So first power rangers movie to reveal new ranger colors and the prospect of a kid being a ranger. Which was later given a realization in Turbo a power Rangers movie when Rocky was injured and Justin learned their secret and is chosen to be a power ranger. I was disappointed in the snes game since you are fighting z putties all the way through until some level that is some kind of military base and the putties are replaced for robots. The final stage Ivan is the boss but you are still fighting the z putties The zord bosses are still Rita and zedd’s monsters and end of each stage bosses were Rita and zedd monsters. Also for neither of the games do you end up going to meet dulcea on pheados and fighting the 4 guardians or the bone dinosaur. Neither game shows them using their “ninjeti” outfits. Not that the movie was good but you’d kinda want some fan service for the movie since it’s a tie in to the games. During the same time on snes at the same time power rangers made a zord fighting game in the style of Gundam Endless duel and shortly after the zeo series came out was a power rangers zeo racers in the style of Mario kart. Which included a gold ranger Jason/the trays of triforia

Hard mode doesn't seem to be that difficult from Normal mode. You just have 45 seconds on the timer instead of the usual 60, so it makes some areas, like the hidden areas in Stage 4, pretty tight. Instead of losing a continue at 0, your health bar just drains until you complete that section.
@ChaosMissile

Hard Mode also increase enemy HP iirc, so it's easier for the timer to drain your health faster. I'll still admit it wasnt all *that* hard though. I did beat Hard Mode solo 1CC as a kid on original hardware.

So the first two stages bear the same enemy type, over, and over, and over, and over again. At least Streets of Rage had some enemy variety, this waits till stage 3 to finally change things up, hardly the sign of a good game. Enemy variety is key to beat em ups, as they can get dull in a hurry due to doing the same things over and over, I can imagine how dull it is to play, because I had to fast forward to at least stage 3 to see some different enemies. But then again after that, you start getting the same enemies for stage 4 after that for seemingly every stage after, the hell is the variety? This game is not in the class of a Final Fight, nor a Streets of Rage. I thought about buying this game at some point, but if this is all the game has to offer, when the FF and SoR trilogies offer far more, then I can safely skip it. Not a fan of the Power Rangers in the least, at least not the US version (the Japanese version, while still cheesy, seems better), but I wanted the beat em ups, but not if enemy variety is less than 10 characters throughout the game. Banpresto beat em ups do tend to sometimes last a little too long, and do tend to get boring after playing through them awhile, the trend doesn't seem to change at all here.

It's a kids game, so cut them some slack. Not like the show had a variety of enemies as well. You could always try the SNES version of the Movie game. Enemies are still mostly Putties, yes, but they all have different arsenals, patterns AND durability(and different pallets to differentiate all of them). The music is solid as well, and it's a tad more difficult, due to stage design and the bosses do have a degree of challenge. Only downsides are that there are no Zord battles and the "Movie" story is in-name only.
