Mid April Garden Check-In
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Thanks for growing with us!
It’s time for a garden check in! We want to keep sharing the changes as they come each week for the Spring. This week we are seeing more daffodils and leucojem blooms, so many plants waking up, and so many things still to come. After our walk around we have a really fun new tool to share.

I could not agree more!! I often take screen shots of plants I might want to add to my garden and I sometimes forget to add the names in the caption. That is never a problem on the Grow for Me channel and I find I take lots of screen shots here because they showcase so many beautiful plants! 💚

You guys have been busy, especially reconfiguring beds. I love the curves you've added. Your garden looks really pretty, despite the wildlife pressure you have. I have deer, rabbits, squirrels, moles, sometimes voles, and slugs and snails.

Hi Guys! That was such a clever idea w the 3 trillis supported on the vinyl fence hook.. why didn’t I think of that?!! I have a 9 ft trillis, also zip tied together against my fence. I laid tall heavy cement blocks in front of it with heavy potted plants to support up instead. Love your channel & garden. Such creative inspirational ideas! ❤❤

@10:00 Grass growing underneath the fence... We make clay bricks (we have red clay about 8 inches down) and fill the holes to the top of the fence. The are porous so they drain and don't hurt the fence. We also put flashing about 18 inches vertically so critters don't dig underneath and go into the orchard, market, veg and potager gardens. So, you do what I do... yeah!
@growformegardening

ooh that's a lot. We have been stuffing bricks in front of the grass with moderate success.
Im always in awe of how quickly my gardens change. This time of year its daily. Im also in 5b/6a coastal southern maine..winter was really odd this year. I have a celery plant that overwintered! My fall mums from my favorite nursery overwintered. I seem to have lost a few echinacea .. which is weird.. although they could still come up.. lost a wigelia, a baptista and pretty sure my butterfly bush is dead. I always loose a few.. but these few suprised me. Oh I also FINALLY overwintered heather! One of my favorites that I usually by as an annual.. they just dont like our winter. I have a bunch of columbine that has spread, my Mondara is growing like gang busters.. I was actually pulling creeping Jenny and didn’t recognize the mondara in places I found it coming up.. so exciting!! I may have even pulled some with the creeping Jenny (DONT plant this 😂) Hummingbirds love it! Your gardens are stunning! I just love everything about them! Look forward to seeing it grow thru the season! Happy Gardening!

@growformegardening

When Eric was pruning the hydrangeas he saw some branches had been pinned down to the ground. They had set roots...so we potted them up and put them under the grow lights.
So that’s who’s been (probably) eating my lilacs! They just never seem to fill. We went and bought that deer spray you talked about in one of your videos and the sprayer that can be carried on our back (well, my wife’s back; my back still isn’t healed from a T12/L3 compression fracture in Feb.), We’re having a chicken wire fence built next week because I’m so frustrated with our little “visitors” using our garden as an “all you can eat Atlantic City buffet - David Rose”!
@growformegardening
Ай бұрын
haha! I'm glad you are trying the spray. It may be the worst thing I have ever smelled but it seems to be working
The edging really looks great guys! I use brick under my fence, it works holding back the grass. Unfortunately, it will not hold back aggressive root systems, such as, raspberry bushes(my particular yearly battle) or most ground covers. I hope the deer leave your Philadelphus alone so you can smell the glorious scent. You'll love it!

Oh they better. I think the brick method is going to be the plan

Looking forward to seeing those expanded beds getting filled up. You asked about a solution to keep neighbors' grass from growing under the fence. I was just looking at Edge Right website for Cor-Ten metal edging for MY yard. The 4' sections come in 6" and 8" depths. Serious teeth on that product. 😁

I have a question. Do you find rabbits eat your roses year round? I am just getting into roses since last spring and I have chicken wire around all of them. Will there be a day where my garden can look nice with no wire? Lol or am I at the mercy of those monsters?
@growformegardening
Ай бұрын
Oh they are always annoying. For roses I find the spring the worst time though. We have a big roll of black chicken wire to start wrapping with. The black makes it much less noticeable
@KamandaHickey

I have the exact same issue. I planted most of my roses in the same area and surrounded them with a small black fence. They can’t jump it.

My rabbits ignore my roses because they have a buffet of tulips, hosta and heuchera 😂. Oh and they chewed hydrangea and rose of sharon baby seedlings right to the ground and killed them over the winter 😢.

When did take your cutting? Did you put a dome for humidity on your cutting with artificial lights?
@growformegardening
Ай бұрын
When Eric was pruning the hydrangeas he saw some branches had been pinned down to the ground. They had set roots...so we potted them up and put them under the grow lights. No humidity dome, just let them wake up as they like.
It will be fun to see how your garden progresses! I am not proud of my answer to the question of the day; grass under your fence; it was a combination of a trimmer and round up. I would kill an area ( slim strip) under the fence. This was in Illinois. I now live in NY where we only have decorative fence ( very little amount of fencing) and invisible mot necessary.
@growformegardening
Ай бұрын
I'm not opposed! We have a bunch of bricks that we are stuffing up against the fence. At least it will hold it back until the hydrangeas shade them
