This is the most exciting thing to happen in consumer 3D printing since we got our first FDM printers at home! And the first release version is looking great. Congratulations micronics and best wishes for your continuing success!

Strange parts critiqued their attitude, and though I agree with him to a degree, I believe their attitude is just human nature under pressure, and that those guys are genuine and are hell bent on delivering a good printer.

I would like to learn more about safety concerns when handling the powder. Powders are really scary to work with since they can get into and coat your lungs. A simple facemask is really not enough to keep the powder out, you need to get a positive pressure mask. There are definitely some DIY solutions that could be improved for a good positive pressure mask.

Most SLS nylon labs that I have visited seemed to have powder in the air. It seems like a safety concern to me, I would only use this in a well ventilated space, with a filter so you aren’t just exhausting microplastic powder into the surrounding g environment

SLS printer is massively complicated, so many things have to go just right and so many things can go wrong it's a miracle they've been able to miniaturize it so much and it still (mostly/sometimes) works well. Probably the hardest part is still ahead of them. Not only do they have to discover exactly what is causing each problem, but also how to prevent it from recurring, and then there has to be a rigorous quality control for let's say a batch of 500 printers. I do not envy their position in the least.

I love young entrepreneur companies. I'm an old engineer and I miss that passion and drive. Luke needs a bed in his office so he doesn't look like a slacker. Geez, he probably has a girlfriend. I'm very interested in the Micron, particularly for TPU.

I don't understand the kids here piling on the company - Strangeparts dude have created needlessly so much drama. Him suggesting them postponing the kickstarter and disclosing that they're "running out of money" has been a dishonest and pretty slimy thing to do. He didn't even do a review or the parts he successfully printed - wtf is that about? It's like nobody ever received as 3d printer PREPRODUCTION!!!! unit that had problems. And these problems seem to be fixable, not something that is fundamentally completely flawed. 3d printers are precision machines, just bad shipping can destroy them.

  • @NathanBuildsRobots

I agree. People are way over reacting. Micronics has cleared up most of the misunderstanding. Scotty is even still working with them. If they were pure evil, you'd think he would have stopped. They told him to publish the video along with everyone else publishing and he did. His big assumptions weren't very helpful. Either way, they've raised $1.35 million and I hope the printer is a great success! Really not sure why anyone wants them to fail so bad.

Wait, no malfunctioning auger? Is this the right micronics? What are you talking about? Scotty wasn't willing to work more on repairing the printer (fair), so Micronics wanted to have the printer back so they can repair it and using it themself or sending it to another reviewer (also valid) The misunderstanding was because Scotty didn't want to work on the printer anymore 1.5 weeks before the video release time. They are in good standings with each other and posted a selfie together from opensauce if you don't believe me. The strangest thing about that whole video for me was Scotty saying he was entitled to having this printer because he is famous and advertising them, that felt the strangest about it all.
