Micro SciSky Firmware Flashing Tutorial

Ғылым және технология

Hey guys, in this quick video we will show you how to flash the firmware on your Micro SciSky flight controller. This is actually more challenging than it seems and we hope that this video will make it all clear. A short list of the necessary parts/tools is included in the description below:
UART Driver (for F1 boards): www.silabs.com/products/devel...
Tool/Parts List:
Micro SciSky Flight Controller:
-amzn.to/2iKjLx7
Micro USB Cable:
-I'm sure that you have at least one laying around your house
Computer:
-You couldn't watch this video if you did not have access to one.
Paper Clip:
-You already own hundreds of these.

Good video mate :-) . I tried flashing mine yesterday after not using it since 2016 🙂 and it stopped half way with verifying and than it seemed bricked completely. I also noted this board showed as a normal com port and not DFU but there CP2102 and VCP boards and this is a CP2102 board so that is normal. Strange thing is that mine first seem to flash ok without even shorting the boot pins but it ended in a STM32 timeout error when verifying. Than i tried like an hour to flash it again with the pins connected but it kept coming back with the same error, tried with cleanflight and betaflight. I was finally almost giving up on the board but than i decided to try an older version of the cleanflight configurator( 2016 version)and yessss that worked. I than locked the board on purpose again to see if it would do the same and again on the lastest version of beta and cleanflight it would give the STM32 timeout but with the old version again flashing went fine. No idea why but if your board gives the STM32 time out try to use and older version and that should fix it. Note that in Zadig the board is shown as a CP2102 USB to UART Bridge controller.

I had a similar problem where my SciSky got a little wet and then refused to connect or bind. I just let it sit for a day or so and now it works fine.

Hi, I was having trouble setting up my scisky and the Banggood website directed me here, but still no luck I set everything up as stated and still would not work, but then I saw I had to do something to do with a pice of software called "flash loader demo" do you know about this? and if so can you help?? Also my board is the updated "one port" version as some other people call it

Flashing firmware for the new Micro SciSky is a little different. All you have to do is short two different pins. All of the other steps presented in this video are the same. This image should help explain: www.overskyrc.com/images/upload/img/1470882325.jpg I have never heard of a "flash loader demo". The GUI CleanFlight (it is a chrome app) should have everything you need to set it up. When you say, "it won't work", what do you mean? Is it not connecting to your computer in CleanFlight?

BananaScience it connects to clean flight and I have set it up as you state in the video I can bind it to my transmitter and in modes I have set one of my switches so I can arm but when I flick the switch I have selected the lights on the board indicate that it is armed but when I move the throttle nothing happens when connected to battery not cleanflight And we did short these two pins on flash and it hasn't worked

@@BananaScience thanks for your respond. Yes i think so many model code type exact F1 for stm32. I'll be check later datasheet from scisky. Thanks before bro

Did you go through the initial flashing process that they describe on the product page: "please flash firmware by Flash Loader Demo, after that, please remove the soldered cable." It seems that the current version of the product may be different than the product you showed in this video. I'm having trouble finding how to do that properly, either by myself or by others.

The "soldered cable" does not actually come soldered. It is a subsitute for the jumper I use in this video. Th reason that I use the jumper is that the soldered cable is very hard to install. Although I am using a older version of the Micro SciSky, the concept is the same for the new one... just have to jump two different tabs. For the new one, just jump these two tabs: www.overskyrc.com/images/upload/img/1470882325.jpg

So using the jumper, i should be able to flash with Cleanflight on the first flash? I don't really need to use the "Flash Loader Demo"?

I had tried using the jumper with Cleanflight but was getting an error of not being able to connect. Let me try again and get the actual error message. Thanks a lot for responding! This was really mystifying me!

I got it! It took some fiddling, but I guess I just didn't have a solid connection with my jumper. Was feeling gunshy I guess since this was my very first firmware flash like this. Thanks!

Hi, I see that you are connecting not by COM port but by uart. Is that necessary to flash and if so how do I connect that way ? Thanks, Bill

I believe it is only necessary for the F1 boards. If you are running an F1, you may need to instal the UART driver from here: www.silabs.com/products/development-tools/software/usb-to-uart-bridge-vcp-drivers

Yeah, that is the new generation of Micro SciSky that was recently released. These are the pins that you want to short: www.overskyrc.com/images/upload/img/1470882325.jpg We will soon be releasing a video comparing the new and old generations of Micro SciSky along with a setup tutorial. Hope this helps :)
