Micro-Air Easy Start DIY on Coleman Mach RV AC unit 4K (RV Living Full Time)

As full time RVers, there are many things we wanted to do to our Grand Design Solitude fifth wheel to make our home as comfortable as possible. And since we spend most of our time in Florida, we knew having the ability to use an air conditioner no matter what was crucial.
That's why we bought and installed the Micro-Air Easy Start for our bedroom air conditioner- the one we use the most.‪@MicroairNet‬

Larry has done many DIYs, including installing lithium and solar himself, so installing a device that will allow us to use the air conditioner even when boondocking was definitely something he could handle.
In this video, we will show you all you need to know to install the easy start to your RV air conditioner. You will see step by step instructions, tools needed, and how to test the system once it is done.
If you follow this video, you will be able to install the Micro-Air Easy Start on your RV and know how to make sure it runs properly and save money doing it yourself. Also, if you use the discount code below, you will save even more money.
If you are worried about voiding your manufacturers warranty Micro-Air offers a free 2 year warranty on your RV AC compressor, their Double Down Warranty if you complete the warranty form on their website within 30 days of purchase.

Anyone with some DIY experience should be able to do this project but if you are not comfortable doing it yourself, Micro-Air told me that it should cost about $100 to get a professional to do it for you. They have a list of dealers that will do it or you can take it directly to Micro-Air if you are close to their office, 124 Route 526, Allentown, NJ 08501

This is a great video. I purchased 3 of the micro-air's. I never even looked at the instructions, yours are so much more thorough. It's nice being able to pause and rewind and double and triple check the wiring. On my front air it dropped the start up amps from 25 amps to 11amps. What sold me was you took the time to meter before and after otherwise how you gonna know if the thing is working. Good Job and Thanks.

Hi Larry, thank you for the soft start video. Ordered mine couple days ago as we plan on staying at State Parks as much as possible and boondocking as well. Also meant to respond to your video reviewing the Honda Generators you did earlier and say that I have the smaller 1000 watt Honda now for 21 year and to date have never had a problem. Used it on more boondocking camping trips than I can count. As well as at home during power outages it has run all night long powering heater in the RV cause couldn’t stay in the house. Always changed oil and one replacement air filter and that’s it. Planning to purchase the 2200 watt soon to power the AC. Regards, Keith

Take the cover off, look at the model number, look at the wires to see if they match the video, if they do, it should be easy. If something looks weird, take some photos and send them to me. @@DownsizingMakesCents my older Coleman Mach A/C has a pressure switch and relay, and they shows those installation instructions on page 22. Basically the only difference is you need to disconnect the black compressor wire from the pressure switch relay, add a new black wire to that relay connection, and then make a 3-way splice with the black Easy Start wire, the compressor wire, and the new relay wire. Due to the additional wires from the pressure switch, I had to drill a new hole to route the Easy Start wires, because there wasn't any room left in the existing hole. I ended up ordering the installation kit which includes the plastic ring to protect the wires after drilling the new hole, plus the additional wires and connectors to fabricate the 3-way splice. The only location the Easy Start would fit in my A/C was laying flat under the fan motor. One last unexpected item, the A/C cover mounting screws were torx. I ended up making several additional trips up and down my ladder, but thanks to your tip using zip ties, I had no issues other than sore knees the next day.

That’s a great question, with our four. Batteries, 400ah. With completely full batteries to start, The ac can run for a few hours but if the compressor is on all the time only a couple of hours, generally at night we don’t keep it too low just low enough to be able to sleep. That way it cycles on and off all night saving power. I would say if you want the run the ac all night, 6 batteries would be the minimum. Larry

So, will your 2000 watt generator run 1 A/C unit without your inverter helping? Ours is only 1 A/C @ 13.5 btu's. Your graph indicated that it's very close. Thanks for this - new subscriber now. 👍🏻 Trying to figure out whether one or two needed for two ACs. I’m thinking one as running only one off grid for relatively short periods seems reasonable. Then, if on 30 amp service, startup the power hog first then once running fire up the easy start AC. Am I thinking about that correctly? Thx

David, thanks for the sub. Sounds like you got the right idea. We are fine with the one on our bedroom. We hardly run both acs Alice

Epilogue: installed the EasyStart on our 13.5 bedroom Mach 3 today. It’s working like a charm. The sound of the unit is noticeably quieter! I just followed your instructions as I went and all is well.I carry Wago connectors which make life even easier than messing with crimps. The Mach 15 with heat pump has a lot more guts and electrical do-dads going on in the AC unit so I put that install on hold. Having one EasyStart should keep us from roasting like last year at Ft Robinson State Park in NW Nebraska when the temp hit 102 and the trees that showed around our site in Google Earth had been cut down by the time we went there so full sun and 30 amp service, OY!!

Thank you for the video. Did you have to run it on AC power for the five test starts?

David, yes. It’s important to do the first 5 test starts using shore power- not a generator, Alice

Great video. I installed on my Solitude 310 as well. I do have a question about the generator. I have a 120v 30 amp inverter generator, but I am only able to run the back ac. It will not run the front ac unit. I know it is because the generator will only push power to one leg which I believe is powering have the panel. We’re you able to overcome this and able to run your front AC.

We can run both ACs on our 2200 W generator but that is because we use the inverter and lithium batteries to make up the difference of power that is needed, we start up the AC that does not have a Microair first then we turn on the AC that does have the Microair second. I would think you could run both on a 30 amp generator like yours. Larry

Thanks, for the video, Larry. We never camp without an electrical hookup (so far). Is there any advantage to be gained by installing one of these Easy Start 364's when you always have shore power?

Allan, only advantage is if you want to run two airs off 30 amp.
