Mickey Rourke has a heart of gold.. He used to own a fancy nightclub on South Beach back in the 90's, at the end of the night, on Mickey's orders no food was to be thrown in the garbage but instead was to be given to the homeless.. I'll never forget that, I'm doing way better now but I'll never forget how thoughtful his gesture was at that time.. Mickey Rourke is the real deal.. Miami remembers..

I can confirm your take on him as down to earth and genuine. Within a year of him filming this interview and the same week that he won the Golden Globe for The Wrestler, he ended up at a nightclub in NYC's meatpacking district I used to frequent. He spent the entire evening at our table and I got to talk to him for most of the night. I came away from that thinking what a great guy he is. So humble, grateful, honest, and funny. I also spent a lot of time at Socialista, the club where this interview was filmed, but didn't run into him there. That was a fantastic little spot for a New York minute.

Piers? Nah. This was an easy interview for him, sort of going low level "pro", asking good questions, simply being... human, once in a while. Usually he is not that, especially involving politics. Don't mistake that one time of "kindness" for his weakness, or something that he is doing all the time. Piers is not that guy, never has been. Just once in a while (out of other 99%) he can pull something good. But never mistake that for something that he is doing all the time. He is not. Far from it. Edit: grammar & spelling here and there....

I agree. This interview is one of the most sincere and honest I've seen. He speaks with truthfulness and it was obvious he endured a great deal of sadness and maltreatment when a child. It breaks my heart for him but he has helped a great many people who saw this. He was very accurate when he points out the trauma and negativity stays with a person; it doesn't go away. It's not the flu. His films are so well done. It is hard for me to watch, "The Wrestler", without weeping.

The first movie I saw w Mickey Rourke was Rumble Fish. I had already read the book, so was looking forward to the movie. It was full of the best actors, but his performance as Motorcycle Boy, a fiercely intelligent person who didn't mind being alone inside their own head, was spot on. He's a great actor, greater than most, and deserves massive respect for his work.

He is at home with himself, and he understands his past, and he is grateful to be an actor, and he is aware that he is a damn good actor;-- and it is his raw acting talent that carried him thru all his mistakes. As you watch, look at how he is truly listening to Piers. He is not distant, or bored, or arrogant at all. So even as life dealt him some setbacks, he has LEARNED from them. He is a wise man now.

The only problem with Mickey is that he needs to quit being such a harass. Not everyone wants to hurt him. He was someone that I would have loved watching him in his movies but I think he got to carried away with the Bullcrap of Hollywood, messed with his looks and that was it for me. He is a good actor but sometimes he needs to drop the bad ass attitude.

@@shellytigress6487 I don’t really think it’s an “attitude” so much as it is a state of being. All of us who have not come from stable, secure and abuse-free, loving home have our own ways, Yk? It’s really hard to explain how profoundly our experiences with abusive parents/stepparents reverberate through out our adult lives, for better or worse. Maybe it just takes time as we grow older to reflect on how bad it really was-and genuinely accept reality as it played out from patterns formed in childhood inherently modeled by our “parents.”
