Mick Mars vs. John 5 - Home Sweet Home

In my opinioni both guitarists are legendary. Both have their own, unique style. And there's no denying Mick has written countless, classic guitar riffs and solos that make up the Crue sound and feel. Mick is a great rock guitarist who's work will live on to inspire future rock guitar players. John 5 is a wizard on the guitar, a true virtuoso. And a very humble player who is doing a great job playing Mick's songs. He's not getting flashy or trying to make them his own. He is playing them as true as he can to how they were composed by Mick. At least from what I see in this video. You gotta respect that. I feel lucky to have seen them both play several times. Thanks for posting this video. Respect and props to both of these great musicians.

I remember coming across a video of John 5 playing a Kiss song true to the original, yet better than Kiss could ever play it. He's really one of the most gifted guitarists around because beyond his technical wizardry he has a feel in his playing that many of the technical guys seem to have lost as the mastered the instrument.

Mick has soul John 5 technical skills not the same as Mick Mars heart and soul 💔.
I think John did the solo respectfully. He didn’t try to make it flashy, so I can respect that. However, true talent is not just play, but in one’s ability to compose. With that, Mick will always be the one true guitarist of Motley Crue. Also, in these videos you are comparing a 70 yr old with a spine disease to a younger guitarist. That has to be taken into consideration also😊

Why does this have to be a competition? Look, Mick was a horribly underrated badass for 40+ years with the Crue, and honestly the primary reason I ever got into music and started playing guitar. Yes, there are hundreds, even thousands of other guitar players out there that may be considered more technically adept than Mick, but NOBODY can play with the power and feel that Mick has. @@jayspears7245 Age is a non-sequitur: I understand the facts hurt your feelings, but that’s just too bad.
I am also a long time guitarist and when I saw the title of this video I wondered how John 5 would play this riff. You see, this was a simple riff by Mick who was a pretty decent Metal guitarist while John is an absolute VIRTUOSO. What John 5 did that was amazing and touching was that he played this riff, note by note and out of respect for Mick and the original song. He could've showed off and did things that Mick couldnt dream of doing but he chose to be true to the original song. John 5 is a true gentlemen while being one of the best guitarists on the planet.
I will give John 5 credit as a premier guitarist, but Mick is the guitarist that made crew what it is!
I love that John kept the Mick lead in place. He showed total props to Mick, and that lead is iconic. Sweet.
I love when a guitarist stays true to the original- never the hey look at me- just respect for the song. Awesome
Mick, thank you for that rendition, very nice
thousands can play that song as it was written, but only one wrote it that's why Mick is the man
Both players are great and The Pain that Mick deals with while he is playing shows he has the grit to STILL do a wonderful job ! and I agree with another person who posted John is a Guitar Wizard and a Humble guy, playing the songs true and not trying to make them his own ,a very humble guy. In my opinion Motley should have quit years ago, Vince's voice has seen better days.

Micks pain was primarily caused by sharing a stage , and having to listen to Vince😖……I thought this was a SNL Debbie downer parody !

I have the same disease that Mic has and if his pain is like mine it's great he can play. Yesterday my hands and wrist hurt so bad and I could barely get up and move around. Today no pain at all.
Mick's guitar playing is what gives Motley it's sound. You can tell its Motley Crue just by the guitar in the songs, Mick built their unique sound. John is a great guitarist thoough.
Mick is awesome. I was expecting John to embellish the solo, but he didn't. Much respect for that.
God bless Mick Mars❤🔥Forever
As a long time player glad I have got to learn from and enjoy both of them !!
Both do a fine job. John played it with respect to the original and a feel of his own. Yeah, the man can totally shred any time he wants to, but this is not what the song called for and he honored Mick's solo beautifully. He's a solid player.
Home sweet home is legendary. This song would not exist without Mick Mars
havin' seen Motley live and countless live performances of in this case, one of my all time fave power ballads from the legendary band Motley Crue for over 35 years, i still get the chills of a guitarist like the highly underrated old school style of mr. Mars, who never plays the same thing twice like many guitarists of his time never did, the true soul and essence and grit of rock n' roll and like any great guitarist has his own unique style, and then there's the terrible circumstances Mick is in and have been for many years with his illness, barely being able to move, i understand him deeply that he had enough and it saddens me that all these legacy bands continue to march on, no matter what the drum of a never ending growth/thirst for nostalgia by the masses/fans.....and cash, gotta eat, rigth? but one thing's for sure, i'll believe a band of this ilk that they have played their final gig; NEVER TO REFORM as long as i live, then i'll believe them, but i guess it's til death do them apart it is, how the mighty have fallen, but this is nothing new, just integrity dosen't mean much as far as legacy bands goes, which was and will always be important to me, but on the bright side there's soo much great and exciting new rock, metal punk, goth, etc music, usually, as always coming from the underground that more than ever, at their best, and being quite picky, that play legacy style aka timeless rock, metal, goth, punk what have you, and these are also bands that will grow slowly but never become big, but why would that be a goal, as those days, compared to all the pioneers that started it all, are gone due to the status quo of how music/the world has changed....i'll leave it like that, and yes John 5 is a great player, don't like his signature licks though, although here he pays a fine hommage here, and he seems like a very nice guy from the many interviews i've seen by him, though never liked any of the music he has made except for a couple of those ditties he did with the the one and only Diamond Dave, which i found entertaining and sweet with those lyrics from DLR
Ive seen the Crue 3 times and hands down im gonna say Mick Mars. Way way underrated
Liked them both, but Mick will always be my favorite.
Mick Mars is overwhelmingly good🥹
John 5 is a sweetheart of a guy and beyond capable guitarist ,super talented & he does a great job. But the heart and soul of the solo is in Mick. Mick was the soul of the band an a true original.
No one can do Mick Mars better than Mick Mars
Mick is the master and always will be! John is awesome and talented respect them both and enjoy hearing them play... gotta give them both 👍
Both are incredible talents
I saw Mick fall down in concert, he trip over the wire as the curtain fell. Niki helped him up. At the time I had no knowledge of his condition. But he was trooper, never missed a lick, he was playing as Niki was helping him up !
John 5 is an amazing musician and from what I've read, seen and heard from him he seems to be a class act of a human being. You have to love the respect he is showing Mick.
Mick and Isabella are magical thank you for all the years Mr. Mars
John 5 did a great job but the award goes to mick mars for composing and writing this solo !!!! I mean wow mick is a genius and such feel !!!! Mick could be one of thee most underrated guitarists of all time !!!! 😊👍✅🇺🇸
Part of being a great guitarist is writing a great and memorable lick. Even though nobody could do a better job at filling the vacancy than John5 and doing it justice, Mick is the one who gave this guitar riff life and help turn it into the hit it became.
The difference between technical proficiency and playing with feel. Mick has been playing this song for years and he plays with feeling. Great to see Mick up close, he is an under-rated player for sure. And it is my opinion, Mick is a large reason for Motley's success.
