@@MadaraUchiha-sp3jh i can play the entirety of out of the ashes, but the alternate picked arpeggios in the beginning of this solo gives me so much trouble. Im better with legato so the tapping part is easier. In terms of technicality it gets even more silly as romeo gets older: For example mythology suite solos or the strange rhytmic phrases in eve of seduction. Shit like the intro to Seven.

The thing that really amaze me every time I watch him play is the flawlessness and the relax of his arms and hands while he do what he do. This is the ultimate achievement for a master, what really makes the different between a "simple" professionist and something more. To make something hard looks so simple. Crazy.

This ranks as one of my favourite guitar solos - everything about it is pleasing - both visually from the sweep tapping to aurally to that lovely motif repeated. This solo makes me both want to learn to play guitar (if only to play this one solo) and simultaneously not want to play guitar (knowing that I will never be able to play this one solo) - to evoke such polar reactions is truly a mark of great Art.

The little smile at :56 haha he knows the lick is a bit monotonous by then but he also knows hey, I gotta play this AND it is a cool arpeggio. I mean, at that speed, who could play that picking? MAYBE Gambale. But it'd be more choppy at its very nature with picking every note. This guy took Malmsteen and so many other styles and paid his dues, learned his stuff and he's damn good. I don't remember any of their tunes but that was during the whole "super progressive" phase when Dream Theater morphed from the "just progressive" days of Rush who was birthed by Zep and Yes. Odd that the more technical players are not really known because their licks were not embedded into a hit song.

Romeo is an amazing mix of the best progressive and neoclassical metal players. I love his blend of Yngwie-esque work with Groove metal and Prog. I always find myself going back to Symphony X way more than Dream Theater because of X's ability to be just prog enough without getting over indulgent and losing the flow of the song. Don't get me wrong, I love DT, and Change of Seasons is one of my favorite songs of all time. But Labrie's vocals and the inconsistent songwriting (in my opinion) makes it harder for me to come back. SX has not only Romeo's amazing fusion style, but Allen's top notch, legendary vocals. And SX just know's how to bring the metal when they need to. Inferno and Sea of Lies are just two examples of complex songs that are also straight up head bangers. I'm hoping they release at least one more album. Underworld was fantastic, but I'd love to see at least one more follow up. They've changed without sacrificing the core of their sound and it would he worth one last go around to see what they can come up with now.

He's the star of all small handed guitarists. His play is amazingly noiseless and he does the dampening so well. Usually for small handed players, synchronization of left and right is poor, also dampening is always the problem. I bet he must have practiced 10 times as much as those with gifted big hands.

He played the tapping part so clean here. He messes that part up in alot of the newer live shows. It's a super hard part. But in general you could tell he practiced more often here. Probably alot of that has to do with the setlist being smaller back then. It's easy to remember a hard ass part when it's only a part of a smaller setlist. But mixed up with a bunch of newer songs I can see how it's easy to forget the little details

G3 is run by Satriani. It's his tour/festival that he invites two other guitarists to come tour with him on it. He has to be in there as one of them, even if you don't like him, lol. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a G3 -- it'd have to be another differently titled guitar-based tour since Satch owns the G3 name ;) I love Romeo, Skolnick and Loomis, just for the record too ;)
