As every guitarist knows, It is one thing to be in the bedroom sitting down hitting all the notes, and quite another to be standing up on stage live in front of an audience and be able to do this. Romeo didn't miss a note. What a monster.

A few notes has been missed. But it doesn't matter. No one plays perfectly, even best guitar players have negligible flaws on stage. To be the best it's not about perfection, it's about closeness to perfection. And Romeo is close like no other; that's why he's a monster!

@@Vbnklll Yngwie never played perfectly. At least he has problems with timing precision; he "hurries up", plays forward of drums. Nevertheless, he's a great guitar player, but he's not perfect. No one is.

You can practice standing up in your bedroom too. Actually, if you plan to play live, I'd suggest playing standing up most of the time at home too. Yeah it takes more discipline, but it's the professional thinking... "I'm going to perform standing up, therefore I practice standing up". That way you're secure with your instrument standing up, so you remove one element that causes anxiety and surprises in live situation (all performing musicians have some level of stage anxiety, even rockstars) Back when I was doing lot of live shows, I noticed a considerable boost in self confidence, by simply doing 90% of my practicing standing up. 5-6 hours a day on your feet. But it's not really that difficult, the hot dog vendor does the same thing. If you can't do it, then you have the mindset of "I'll be a bedroom guitarist" instead of "I'll be a performing guitarist" Playing standing up is a different beast, especially if you hang your guitar any lower to look more "rock". (If you notice, Romeo hangs his guitar quite low for a technical player, and there's zero benefit to that, except that it looks more badass and "metal") But even if not, it's always hitting a moving target. There's ways to negate that, by anchoring your picking hand securely, but if you mostly play sitting down, it never becomes second nature. Romeo could make his life easier by just holding the guitar higher, with a shorter strap. But he doesn't want to look like a fusion geek, so he hangs it down. Considerably harder for fretting hand, and takes a lot of getting used to. Your reach has to be better than when sitting down, you need some extra reach to be able to play everything. All shapes involving stretching/reaching become harder.

@@shredd5705 practising standing up is a pro tip 🤟 Btw i think you're generally right about the guitar position being more comfortable and efficient the higher it hangs. However i think some have just longer hands and flexier tendons and can play shred tyle guitar even if its low. Look also at Paul Gilbert, very low guitar yet he also uses wide fingerings (he has really long fingers). I think one can train to play in whatever position he wants, it all depends to shoulder and hands confort in the end.

The way Romeo plays it LIVE like it WAS NOTHING. Like, flawless and smooth as it was just throwin' simple notes. It's MARVELOUS. He made it look so damn effortless, most people won't even understand how amazing his skill level is.

Over twenty years ago I went to see them in new jersey and I arrived to the venue early and got lost. I ended up stumbling with Romeo and Allen and they helped me find my way. Such awesome guys and to me one of the best prog metal band in history.

Even though the sound is not that great on this video, you can still hear how awesome Russel Allen is live as is the rest of the band. Compare that to Dream Theater, where the instrumental part is still good, but James Labrie pales in comparison to Russel!!

Russel is more of a soul-singer, and sings in a lower register which is easier to maintain as you age. Even though Labrie isn't near his peak anymore, I admire that he's still getting up there and giving what he has left to the fans.

@@databloom70 I am no expert, but i am not sure if that is the way it works. If a person doesn't need to strain too much to sing, he/she will have it easier in the long run. Independent of how high a singing voice is. It seems to me that Russel Allen is less stressed when singing and therefore sound better still. Just my 2 cents.

while I cannot find whether Michael had formal training in guitar playing and techniques, his fret board hand position and technique is "proper" in the sense of classical guitar techniques. Not that matters, as long as one plays beautiful music, just an observation. (Django Reinhardt played with two fingers on the fret board and played beautifully)

Romeo is very good. Romeo seems to not have his own thing - I heard Yngwie dueling Tmac. He actually looks like a short yngwie playing a tmac guitar. My opinion.
