I think McDowell and Front Row has come a long way from where it was 10 years ago as an organization. Yes, they are still no 23XI, Hendrick, Trackhouse like team but they are in the right direction. They aren't a team that sits in 20th or worse every week and can usually compete for top 10s or 15s. Also, they have a great Truck program for Zane Smith. While they aren't a super power team, I wouldn't necessarily call them a small team anymore. Michael's done a great job with what he's done at Front Row (and just think, I remember they days when he was a start and park driver for Phil Parson's racing). Great win Michael!

Yep Phil actually did McDowell a huge favor by keeping him in the Cup garage even if not racing. Michael Waltrip had sort of set that whole thing up and sold/gave Phil a bunch of old cars; Phil had been doing something similar for several years on the Nationwide side since the economic crash, and been criticised for it, but it nonetheless kept dozens of people employed and kept a guy like McDowell in the garage every week.

Even though 23XI is a JGR satellite team, and trackhouse has loads of backing from Chevrolet, I wouldn't hardly include them in a sentence with Hendrick and JGR (21 Championships combined)

McDowell is one of those drivers that you know he has the talent but, like he said, needs to put the whole race together. They did this past weekend. It showed his talent as well as how much this car has helped level the playing field. FRM has some great speed this year, they have come a long way in the last 3-4 years. All their efforts are showing off. If they keep at it, it'll only get better. I just wish this happened for him about 10 years ago. So, they did it last weekend on the road course, think they can do it again at The Glen? He's having the best year of his career and Ford has now won the last 3 races.

I agree. McDowell is underrated and you have to remember, he's 38. I think if he were in so many other garages 10 years ago, even 5, he would not be a mid-20s pack runner on any given day and showing his talent on super speedways and road courses (which reinforces he's solid all around IMO). We'd be seeing him in VL way more.

I'd like to get Denny's opinion heading to the Glen as an owner seeing as Wallace is in a precarious situation. Elliot's got great odds to win and bump him out, it's one of Suarez's best tracks who made up 35 points at Indy while Bubba was having an exceptional day by RC standards, and what he thinks going into Daytona given the 23 is more than double the average finish this year (25.0) to last year (12.4) at Superspeedway races Personally I think it's a relief to the 23 that McDowell won, because if he didn't and Elliot was able to get the win the 23 car would be only 24 points to the good on top of Suarez being 28 out. This way at least he's only racing one guy for points and it's the guy who doesn't have great results at the Superspeedways

Michael, I will have to disagree with you that SVG should “never” have won at Chicago(he did!) but at the same time it was a street course that no one else had been at (he is a street course specialist!) the cars are mechanically very similar (the type he typically drives, not so much as far as aero) between the wet track going to dry and his experience he had just as good a chance if not better than most of the field there at Chicago.

I don't care how boring the race is, if we're going to Indy it has to be on the oval. Nobody cares about the road course.

Let's see who wins SVG or another NASCAR Regular at Watkins Glen, next year. Your win was not on a REAL Road Course, but, nice mid-oval win. 1 win and done, sadly, those odds are against him making it to the 2nd round because it will be checkers or wreckers. I don't think Chase will win at Watkins Glen. McDowell will NOT win at Daytona....Hendrick Chevy...
