The big man position was more important than the Shooting guard position at the time especially for those teams that had the number 1 and 2 pick.Hakeem was better coming out of college than Jordan maybe thats due to his college team being built around him while UNC didn't give him the freedom due to the talent MJ was playing with in College.

It's true, most of MJ's greatest moments are in NBA. But he was a top dog in college. 1 NCAA chip, 1 gold medal. Kareem is the best college player ever.

Skip is delusional. Kareem Abdul Jabbar was the greatest college player ever, Wilt, Oscar tied for second, Bill Walton was third and I would say Larry Bird is fourth, phil ford fifth, Jerry Lucas 6th, David Thompson, Ralph Sampson 7th, Patrick Ewing 8th, Len Bias 9th. Michael would not be in the top ten. There are many more accomplished college players better than Michael. The fan poll is meaningless because it is not based on history.

Not a long shot. Positional competition throughout his career considered (Wilt Chamberlain, Moses Malone, Bill Walton, Robert Parrish, Wes Unsled etc..) Kareem is the best NBA player ever. Jordan didn't accomplish his achievements against any SG as great as the Centers Kareem played. For that matter Jordan didn't have to play any teams as good as the 70s Knicks, Lakers, Celtics, or Warriors, and the teams he beat were not as good as the 80s Celtics, Lakers, Pistons, or 76ers.

Definitely not a long shot. Bill Russell, Mj and Kareem have the 3 greatest resumes in BASKETBALL history and of the 3, Kareem definitely has the best overall resume. Dominant individually on both ends of the floor, and won multiple times on all 3 levels plus the olympics.

When he drove in the paint, he had to meet Shaq, Olajuwon, Kareem, Mutombo, Ewing, Mourning, Robinson, Eaton, Barkley, Malone, Parrish, McHale, Rodman, etc. Look at Jordan on the Wizards, he was still giving it to McGrady, KG, Dirk, Kobe, etc at the age of 39/40.

Y’all, mike is the Goat. But he was never the greatest college player. He wasn’t even the best player coming into the 84 draft. That was Hakeem.

True not best college player (career wise), only because of dsmith system. However although he was not draft first in 84 he was the best player that came out of 84. Evidently shown by his rookie 28/5/5 stats compare to Olajuwon and taking his team to play off. Perspective, Jordan rookie stats is equivalent to Kobe lone mvp stats

Jean Lamour don’t forget that Hakeem had to share the rock with Sampson in his rookie season. + Hakeem was more impactful in college that’s just the reality all of those dean smith system although they are real... that’s not a fact that MJ will have end up having a greater college career.

Jean Lamour of course mike was the obvious best player from that draft, but my point is coming into that draft everyone knew Hakeem was going 1. So he wasn’t ever viewed as the best college player. The only reason Portland took sam Bowie was because they already had Clyde to which an NBA exec famously stated “well draft mike and play Clyde at center” or something to that effect.
