Back in 2006, I was a graduate student at the University of St. Andrews and at this time Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones spent a lot of time in town. THEY WERE INCREDIBLE!!! They hosted student clubs/parties on their grounds and spent a lot of time hanging out with the students. They were very humble and extremely friendly. They seem to be more interested in our lives as students than they were with their Hollywood reputations. I will never forget them. Michael is a true gentleman!

It’s kind of crazy to thing that Michael Douglas’ first Oscar was for producing One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1976, seven years before him acting in Wall Street. Edit: the dates are incorrect. Read the comment below.

Kirk bought the film rights to Cuckoo's Nest & gave it to Michael. Also, it came out in 1975 while Wall Street came out in 1987.

I much prefer Michael's work to Kirk's. Not that Kirk was bad by any means but I just prefer the kinds of movies Michael was in. 70s - 90s are my favorite decades and Kirk had a lot of his success pre-70s.

Great actor who knew his craft, wall street was such a great movie He played the coldness of power very well, and what these sorts of people are really like Fair play to him, he made so many great movies, and at a time when people who were top stars could act, so it was not easy i assume to become a leading man in movies in his own right.

Ironic that Michael biggest early success was as producer, because just with "Cuckoo's Nest" & "China Syndrome" alone, he easily surpassed his Father Kirk in earnings. "Spartacus", Kirk's biggest success, never made him big money as producer, due to the back-end deal he made with the studio that gave him "net profit", which for many who accepts such deals, gets one virtually nothing, thanks to Hollywood studio "Creative Accounting".

The way non English speaking Spaniards called his father stuck back in the day and even thou they obviously share the same name they are pronounced differently by most of the population of a certain age.😅

MD conveniently leaves out the connections, auditions, etc. he would never have had if he came to Hollywood as a complete nobody..... Nepotism never comes up in these conversations. Sure the man has proven himself to be a great actor, arguably even surpassing that of his father, but come on. Think about the millions, who have come to Hollywood with the same talents or even better, that we'll never hear from because they weren't some famous or well connected Hollywood player's kin..... Nepobabies...

John Wayne known for being narrow-minded and a bit of a dullard and did everything he could to not serve in WWII-- "Now, THIS is the guy I agree with." It's hilarious that the right always gravitates to the denser folks.
