Somewhere I have this on Betamax and have despaired I would ever see it again. It's quite simply one of the funniest things I ever saw on tv. I should get out more as Davis would say... Thank you for sharing this so very much!

To know that we share similar thoughts is a comforting thing. People are linked up beyond what we can immediately realize. We all have our roots in one another. That, among the few revelations brought about by our generation, is worth recognizing.

Throwingstick, you must mean Seasick Steve stole that line, since his album with that title came out in 2009 and the Michael Davis appearance on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show predated SS's album by at least 15 years. Actually, the line has been around far longer than the 1990s, and I believe it originated in vaudeville.

I remember watching this in a Hotel room when I was 12, staying up late to see him, because he had just married my cousin not long before and I was going to be seeing him soon. I believe Tom Hanks was on the same show that night, and to this day I still have a piece of paper from Tom Hanks that he gave Michael with a little note on it.

@ throwingstick: Lighten up, my friend. Comedians, especially back in vaudeville, have always stolen material and used it to suit their own acts. Milton Berle even recommended that. It's just a funny line. Nobody "owns" the joke.
