    Lots of things like to chew on these baits, not just mice and rats. Snails, slugs, ants, voles, chipmunks, I've even seen daddy long-legs chew on them before. Snails and slugs are greedy, any you can lose an entire box of bait to them before the mice find it. Or a fat rat decides his gonna stay there an eat it all. Which is why you check droppings, and check your bait boxes.

    Never poison animals. 1. Because other predators that feed on them also get poisoned. 2. They may crawl inside a wall, die, and the smell is horrendous.

  • @MrGerritv

    @MrGerritv

    11 ай бұрын

    Not completely true. Second hand poisoning really depends on the product being used and how much can even be passed along. For example, cholecalciferol is a very effective rodenticide but does not pass along to a predator that may eat it. On the note of them dying in the wall, although it’s possible, it doesn’t happen very often at all.

    An adult animal would be ok, but if their young eat it, it can be fatal. It happened to some eagles on Southwest eagle cam awhile back... one of the babies died and they thankfully were able to save the other after intervening. We've used these before and have had mice die in our walls a few times down in the basement. For a few days to a week it smells absolutely horrid 🤢

    If any PCO or WCO uses Ditrac without putting into a bait station they are in violation of the law, and in my experience you will almost never find a loose Ditrac block. If your dog or child gets sick/dies and you can prove it wasn't applied properly you can sue and the applicator could even go to jail/prison. Even the scummiest companies know how to avoid losing their business completely. You are scaring people about a highly unlikely situation and I think you are being unhelpful.

    Wouldn’t the little bites out of the bait block be the first sign that they were eating the poison?

    If the mice are digesting the poison bait and pooping the green dye vs just Dying 💀, I’d say you need a new poison bait.

    What helps me to identify it is dead mice from eating the poison aka blood thinner that makes them bleed to death

    This usually gives the mouse enough time to die outside instead on the inside of the home. And if I can remember these blocks are general use rodenticides. Especially the green ones in which case they can be bought at a store I believe. Do not quote me on this.

    We've had these kind of baits around our house for a little over a year now and are changing to something else cause every single time they change those blocks, they are eaten to nubs! We also get A LOT of birds of prey in our area that are quite active around our house (an owl caught a squirrel and thought our roof was a great place to land while killing it and I've had *presents* left in my garden, no, not poop, dead animals 🤢) and I'm worried they will snag a critter that has eaten the poision and get sick or die from eating it... these just dont work very well 😩

    Don’t use bait. Mice are eaten by larger predators like Eagles and Hawks who die from ingesting the Warfarin in the bait eaten by the mice. If you must kill mice use old fashioned snap traps. They are much more humane and the dying ends with the original target

    What they don't tell you is when the rats die from the poison, the owls come in and eat the rat and then, yup you guessed it! The owl dies!!! What a way to solve problems right!!

    Not if it has a stop feed in it. The mouse or even rat will get full after a couple bites and it will be just enough to kill the rodent without making the body toxic.
