Came here for the same thing. We had one fall in our sump pump and it smelled to all hell. Granted, maybe that's because it was in the water and not just in the air but it filled the entire 3 story house with stink. This is why I don't use poison inside, they just go off and die in the walls and stink

So, a follow up to my post. As I mentioned before and as people who have had dead mice or rats in their homes, they DO smell and bad! LOL Once they've completely decayed then the smell is gone. With that said, I bought the Contrac poison bate off of Amazon and I can testify with 100% certainty this stuff works! I haven't seen a rodent in a few months, and given it's winter where I am this is the time of year they get inside my home and hunker down. Not one trace of any rodent has been found and for the first time in ages, our home is quiet, clean and at peace. When spring hits and critters are running around, I am going to place more outside to ensure any new visitors will not make their way in. The Contrac does the job.

Copper mesh is the way to go for plugging holes because it won't rust. The mesh also irritates their claws. And if they try to chew through it, they won't take more than one bite because it cuts their gums.

Perhaps it may help to know that the only thing a mouse is interested in is it's survival. Which has nothing to do with you personally. They will not be crawling around you while you sleep. They are not dangerous unless they carry a disease. They are annoying. And problematic. But they do reproduce at an alarming rate and have adapted to their environments in such a way as to be able to survive very well. So the best thing to do is get to the most effective and immediate solution as possible, the poison, and be done with it. In the meantime, you can sleep well knowing that the mice in your walls are not thinking about you at all!!

This is fantastic advice but for one thing. I really do appreciate the concise pure info. I do have one contradiction. Dead mice do stink, they decompose just like any other living thing. They swell with gases, they burst, they will go off and die in your walls and if you have a very unsealed home which is likely given the mouse/rat issue to begin with, you will smell them. The smell can last up to a week before it disipates, usually because they dry up. This is lived experience talking here so 12:37 yeah gotta call you on that one. Keep up the good work!

This was so clear, simple, non-hysterical, and easy to follow. Thank you . I also am glad to find someone who is balanced on both being sensible about killing them but also with the desire for no torture if animals. Feels calming. Im gonna stick with you as my pest person. I am truly shocked to hear that baits are not cruel. My vision of them was the mice going away and laying with unbearable pain cramping their guts for hours or even days. I never could do it. (Used live traps and then drowned them in the trap- but they wont go in anymore!! ). I m not saying this to argue or pronounce you dishonest- i am simply SO surprised that bait isn’t what I thought. I WANT it to be true. Because that will make my life so much easier and safer I will take your words for it, and I’ll get that bait you showed. I’m in an apartment - the hygiene issue and the shame of people seeing my infestation has to be addressed. One in the kitchen didn’t shock me- but when one sits up in your laundry basket , and then a different one comes out of your clothes beside you in the lounge room - you pay attention!! (Couldn’t believe it). Ive got very fast snap modern plastic traps (with teeth as on the bar for extra certain quick kill-) they kill SO fast. Ive caught two thus way- but most traps remain unsprung. Smart mice, like you said. The bait will fix this. Ok… gonna go see if its in Australia. (Probably cost a fortune to have shipped from USA). Thanks heaps mate

Wow, that was really thorough, thank you! It covered things that I had been wondering like when they decay, how bad is the smell. By the time I was watching this, I had already forgotten it. I really appreciate that you covered the ethical ways. It warmed my heart that you are not cruel. I also appreciate that the contract just pretty much puts them to sleep. As someone who has digestive medical issues, the thought of them having that, even for a moment was not setting well with me. My husband will be very glad to hear it as well. The dime size holes or entries are just astonishing. I knew they were creative and agile, but that outdoes the ants that I had in my syrup bottle that was just caked with syrup under the cap and yet they got inside. An observation is that these little guys are arrogant in that when you hear them and go looking to see which drawer or cabinet they are in, they just stay real still. If you leave, they will immediately continue on their little journey no matter how noisy. The very second you hear it again and open up the drawer or cabinet, they will stay there and they know you can see them. Rude!!! I remember one mouse years ago in my daughters house in TX when the little guy decided to peek out from under the dishwasher. It was so cute because he wasn't even trying to hide. Not long after that, he went out into the middle of the living room and began to take a bath. It was an open floor plan and I think he knew that it would be almost impossible to catch him. Thank you for your very informative and easy to understand video.

Idk man, I just doused a couple cotton balls in peppermint, clove, and eucalyptus oils and placed them around the house and the rats/mice haven’t been around since. Obviously the problem isn’t solved, we still have to go about sealing up entry points, etc, but the essential oils def do work to repel the rodents.

I think I just have a few mice, didn’t even realize until my cat brought me one that he murdered one last week, so I started searching and found droppings in a few drawers close to the floor in my kitchen. Doesn’t look like they have gotten into the food, but you would think with cats around, they would go elsewhere….so I tried the peppermint oil and dryer sheets, and there are less droppings, but I think they are still here. I’m going to call an exterminator and have them look for entry points. I don’t want to poison them or set up traps.

Good video, I've been a amateur pest control guy for years, but learned a few things. The good commercial poisons can usually be found in farm stores, they will always come in big containers, and the active poison ingredient will be 5%. If package says 1% (Fine print on the back) it's not effective. Mice are attracted to warmth and will find their way into engines of every kind and can do a lot of damage. If you are a kind catch and release person, just wait until you have a $2000 repair bill. Place bait stations against the foundation of the buildings, experiment with locations as some are better than others. Near parked car if you park outside. Garages and crawl spaces are hot spots for mice. Always put plenty of the poison chunks in your crawl space. You can just throw them in as no other animal will find them down there. Traps are high maintenance and only work if there are a few mice...with real infestation, you'll never keep up. Always be responsible when handling and disposing of poisons. The chunks look like tasty candy bars to kids. I recently started experimenting with baking soda and Plaster of Paris corn bread mix concoctions, but there are no mice or rats here anymore so I can't say yet if if works.

Hi. Thanks for the great info I have a question.. I saw mice droppings in multiple places. Along baseboards around the living room baseboards as well as by the dining table nearby. However I've seen the bulk of the droppings underneath the stairs. My wife saw one inside in the living room which was the first time we saw one in the house and didn't even check underneath the stairs yet. My wife opened the door to the storage area underneath the stairs and saw two mice run into these holes on the ground. Following that day I called pest control. They set bait stations inside that storage room and we discovered a hole outside of the staircase area (also a storage area). Since pest control, ive had that exterior hole patched and the holes on the ground and wall openings patched up and filled with concrete and spackle. Since then I haven't seen any mice droppings. Is there a chance they got trapped in those holes and died from not being able to escape from the cement patched holes, they're alive and well inside the walls or they managed to escape out that hole that leads to the outside before everything happened. Ironically. One random day I heard the gutter on the outside of our bedroom make tapping noises. It ended up being from the rain. However I banged on our wall pretty hard and I heard a squeal. Does that mean they're inside the walls? Or by chance a mouse or rat was outside and I heard it. Thanks. Sorry for my poor writing.

I've already seen a possum, hedgehog and ground hog.. mind you, we live in a city in row home. Believe they have a few nests in several different areas. They're food source is in the yard next door.. cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce and whatever else is recklessly planted. I believe their coming in through the top of my window and from a hole in the back of the house by door. I found a nest behind the one wall in kitchen by the back door not sure how to decipher their Pooh. It kinda looks like rat droppings but I could be wrong. I've also been smelling wet dog after I cleaned kitchen with bleach.. I'm going crazy bcuz of all the disease and virus they carry.. I believe they are the culprits for a flea infestation I had over the summer and are responsible for chewing through my ovens wiring.. which scares me even more.. can anyone describe the smell of mice and/or rats? My cats have been keeping them at bay and been showing me exactly where they are in walls but I am having a hard time luring them out.. any suggestions before I tear walls and ceiling down??

50 droppings per mouse per day! That sure puts my mind a little at ease, I thought we had a huge infestation in our basement based on the amount of droppings observed. I did see a live one come out of hiding earlier today, the mouse went over to the trap to see if we had replenished the peanut butter. Kid you not! They licked it clean off from all the snap traps! I'll try some of the other methods which you had mentioned! Dead mice do stink! We disposed of two dead mice within the last week, placed them in zip lock bags and this morning setting our trash bins out for trash pick up - yikes! The stench was awful!

We use glue traps for recluses for first 6 years, then got a mouse infestation. I oil off and release anything I can, except the recluses. The mice are oiled off 500 feet away at the front of our property with lots of woods in between. Just got one of those lids that you put on a 5 gallon bucket. Have caught 7. These I transport off the property to a wooded area, away from residential homes and properties.....

Thanks for releasing them and letting them get into someone else's home. These things can transmit sickness and disease to humans and cause expensive damage. Plus, they are overpopulated. Catch and release helps no one.

Wait what?! Lol idk what kind of dead rodents you’ve been around but rats/mice have died in my house/in the walls/somewhere they couldn’t be found before (usually bc one of my cats brought in a catch that managed to escape but then crawled off somewhere in the house and succumbed to their injuries), and lemme tell u, it smells freaking AWFUL for weeks!

Yes, we have trees around our house which makes it easy for them to crawl on the roof. The house is also an older house. We started getting this problem when our dog died while he was around. I guess they were afraid of him roaming around the yard and they just stayed away so we have to get another dog or a cat.

Very informative but doesn't the poison bait cause a long, slow, lingering death? If the antidote is Vitamin K that suggests that the bait causes internal bleeding because Vit K is a blood-clotting agent. I have evidence of a mouse travelling around my kitchen surfaces during the night, Is it most likely that he/she is just coming in at night or actually living behind the fridge or other appliance/cupboard?

Not necessarily. I think personally the ethics of a way to kill something is pretty subjective. Each person has their view and it’s a bit hard to prove what hurts a mouse less when it’s dying because that’s also subjective to the mouse.

Smaller mice can actually get though a hole the size of a pencil !! ..when I do a CLEAN OUT ..after I seal up entrances on the outside ..I use Plastic LARGE RAT glue boards ..with Tiny dab of peanut butter on center .. because mice are social and want to go where other mice are you leave the dead mouse on the board for a couple days I come back the next week for return service and remove sometime 6-8 mice! on a rat size board.. these are generally placed up on The ledges in the basement as the mice get into the basement or garage and then get into the rest of the house... Once I do my sealing up and clean out with the large Rat boards .. I then install mouse rtu (ready to use) bait stations on the ledges of the basement.. with contract or even better quicker kill FINAL BLOX .. inside the bait stations .. final will kill the mouse quicker it's not running upstairs in your house until it dies...MICE do smell if you get a number of them dying in the wall.. this is why I focus on the basement where they originate from and they usually die near the furnace on the floor because mice go to heat not water after they've ingested the final blox .. since I've already done the sealing up .. and the clean out.. getting rid of as many as I can with the RAT glue traps first.. only an occasional mouse will die inside in the basement... If there absolutely no dogs in the house hold.. I can use a bait called fast track.. but only if there's no dog in the house because fast track has no antidote.. final block antidote is vitamin k and a dog would have to eat an awful lot of blocks of final to be affected... I absolutely disagree with exterior bait stations for mice.. exterminators actually use these big giant rat stations and what you're actually doing is attracting the mice to your house.. then when they eat the bait they're going to come in the same holes they come in normally and then die in your house and you're never going to kill the millions of mice that are outside in the neighborhood or in the woods near your house... So I frown on putting exterior bait stations unless we're dealing with a rat outside and then only a few stations where the rats actually are living outside..so seal up .. clean out via rat boards.. then install bait stations in the basement with final block ( or contract block if the problem is not bad ) ..PS if the house has attached garage.. it's important to make sure your garage doors seals on the bottom inside are in good condition..! . If they are not or the garage door does not close properly..(keep garage doors closed during the evening especially do not store garbage pails or bird seed in garage) ..

The idea that CONTRAC does not induce a secondary kill of any animal that eats the poisoned rodent is patently false. The only rodenticide on the market that proffers no secondary kill is MouseX/RatX. CONTRAC is absolutely likely to kill any cat, bird, or similar predator that eats the mice you’ve poisoned. Of all options available to you, it is among the least ethical.

  • @annanzul2862
    @annanzul2862 Жыл бұрын

Pet safe: Contrac is LESS toxic to non-target animals in both primary and secondary poisoning situations than other single-feeding baits. The antidote, Vitamin K1, is readily available. Always use a tamper resistant bait station to keep pets and children away. Dogs and cats might be poisoned if they feed upon animals that have eaten this bait.

Don’t want my dog getting fleas from it, my baby eating its droppings because he has a habit of eating anything off the floor still. I’m almost sure it might be nesting in my room because I’ve seen it leave twice from behind my headboard. Put a blanket at the bottom of the door so it couldn’t escape & sticky traps around. It avoid all the traps so easily & knew where to jump to get under the blanket crack at the corner. I bought the vector electronic box next to the wall by the oven because I watched it go under after leaving my room. I’m thinking of using bait but I’m so scared my dog or baby will get ahold of it but in desperate

Wow! Thank you! You know your stuff and it wasn't done with scare tactics. I have variegated carpeting of browns and black threads. I can't see any mouse dropping! What's the protocol for cleaning up? Are the droppings a health hazard. We've killed 4 mice in 2 weeks. And last night with our new 12 pack of safer to set snap traps from Amazon helped is catch 2! (Where the standard wood traps and even the bucket bait trap haven't caught anything! And the sticky traps have only caught one mouse in the last 2 months!). Within about 5 minutes of each other! Which helps me believe the is all infestation. Worst of all, I live by a farm! And have a 3 room basement with crawl space. 😭 I'm scared of these adorable but hideous creatures! And I have a dog and chickens, is it really going to be safe to set a poison box outside? Any help would be appreciated, if you are even still making these videos..
