Man, Nintendo must really be missing them mh4u journals.

It was inevitable, ever since the moment the WiiU and 3ds eShop closed it was matter of time before Online followed. still it feels like a really bitchmove from Nintendo either way. The worst part is there's still people enjoying 4U online to its fullest. We will have to wait for the MH community resurrects it from the dust just like with Tri.

So I imagine you're thinking of connecting to fan servers from the 3DS, but it's been perfectly possible to migrate your savefile for 3U and 4U off of the console and onto emulator and play online on PC for years now. Plus, emulator has improved graphics, beautiful upscaled textures and lets you play with a full size controller.

I tried all the old games, just hoping the series got good enough for me to be able to tolerate it. That didn't happen until 4U. All those clunky, unskippable animations made the older games unenjoyable for me.

I never had the privilege of playing 3U online as I had only owned a 3DS, however, 4U was where I spent somewhere around 2k hours playing solo, in random hubs and with an old friend. 4 player hubs were super comfy, usually people were friendly, and it was a good time. World hubs felt too busy, you had people AFKing all the time or going off to do their own thing, and Rise has SOS, further reducing the need to actually connect and communicate with people. 4U was really special, it's a shame that people won't get to have that experience any longer.

Same here, played MH3U on 3DS only so I couldn't online basically at all, and while I proved perfectly capable of fighting solo in MH4U, hunting online was a special kind of fun to have, too.

Now, there is already ONE option you could still play these games in Multiplayer afterwards: Emulation. (yes, it requires setup, but it's really not that bad and you could carry over your save, everything, get better performance and even 4K60fps for the 3DS versions of 3U and 4U). Citra allows you to play local multiplayer like it's online multiplayer. If you wanna go that route, I am sure there would be enough community members hopping in there. (like me)

I'm playing 3U a lot at the moment. Played trough it the first time moga (village) and now craft the white lagi armor for the hub. 4U is waiting for me after that 😅. I'll enjoy your journeys a lot while I play the games myself. Keep up the hard work Jay ❤

Don't hesitate to do a lot of the G-rank quests in multiplayer. That's the authentic experience most of us had. 4U endgame is a lot more intense than 3U in my opinion, especially lvl140 monsters (of which you should do at least 1)

White Fatalis and super crimson Fatalis are event quests for g rank, there’s an end of guild solo quest Fatalis quest too, so Jay. Download all 4U event quests now

PSA: You can emulate 4u smoothly on citra, with any somewhat recent hardware. A 2060 for example will work fine. You can also play online multiplayer while emulating the game, but it will increase usage a little bit. You WILL want to find "cheats" online to optimize the game, with an optional 30fps one if necessary. If you played 4U on ds, you can grab your save and rip a copy of your game and events to play on citra. If you look it up online, you will find very hand-holding instructions on how to hack your 3ds and any further necessary steps.

I did this. I am seriously considering sending my 3ds to Jesus just for the lols. That low res makes me wonder how could i have enjoyed MH4u for 300 hours on that piece of shit screen. Capcom is really the master of gameplay

Honestly.... if Capcom can combine MH DOS' gear upgrade + season system, TRI's underwater combat, AND 4th/ 5th gen verticality in a remastered collection of old gen biomes as MH6, I'd pay a fat 70 bucks for the base game and another 30 for the G-rank expansion already.

Ever since TGS, I can't help thinking that what they've been planning for 20th Anniversary is not MH6, but some sort of remaster/legacy collection Capcom has been consistently releasing remasters/legacies for the past few years Their recent remaster is Ghost Trick, and their recent Legacy collection is Megaman EXE; maybe now's MH's turn Maybe that Origin Hunter at the end of the Anniversary image has some deeper meaning after all. Anyway, I'm just saying that a MonHun remaster isn't necessarily out of the realm of possibilities Maybe they need more time for MH6, and since Sunbreak already wrapped, a MonHun remaster could just be the solution As for, would people go for the good old (also niche) Monster Hunter titles? Well, I always assume all these remasters/legacies are targeted towards the old fans rather than the new ones you know, for nostalgia, or better preservation, etc This is, of course, pure speculation But if Capcom would actually do this, maybe we'll get to play those Japan exclusive titles on Steam

I suspect the "if an event occurs" line basically just means if something happens that would normally lead to a temporary shutdown for server maintenance, they'll just pull the plug for good.

Know what if you got the time you should do the event quest "Out of time" as a sendoff because it's name is fitting and it gives you ex gore magala armor(4u flagship gamma effectively) As the last quest you do in mh4u.

Not to be the bearer of maybe bad news, I'm still holding onto my tank of copium for another announcement sometime between now and the 20th anniversary, but about the only thing that's really come up is a collaboration between Capcom and a company that specializes in pc hardware I think.

Worst case scenario you can port your save to Citra, and play online through something like Hunsterverse.

There may be a solution, but it may require a bit of tweaking in your 3DS settings. People used to change their proxy settings to connect to private servers, in order to download custom quests onto their games. Maybe it can be done to play without passing by Nintendo's server ?

It was inevitable. The game will be missed.

2 of the 3 fatalises are not too bad solo. Just the normal one is brutal solo.

Damn I've been so busy lol. Looks like I probably won't be able to go online on mh4u again. At least not for another playthrough.

Worst case scenario you can export your save from 3DS (if you hack it), then import it in Citra and use its online server capabilities to play multiplayer. I know you had bad 1st experience with Citra, but with proper preparation and configuration you can really have good time with it. Vanilla MH4U experience in Citra is awful, but after proper set up (update game to 1.1, use cheat to disable 3D, dithering, bloom, use proper configuration, install HD textures etc) the difference is day and night

I mean, I've completed both of these games by myself back then as did a lot of players, so I'm sure you'll be fine.

​​@@HeyJayOfficial Yes you can play 3 Ultimate local without online, but to play 3 Ultimate in local Multiplayed on the Wii U one player has to play on the 3DS. You can't play local Multiplayer with 2 Wii Us.

I don't understand, there is always the 3ds emulation with citra as an option. There is online multiplayer on citra. If you need some help, there are a lot of people who can help you. So you don't have to rush an beeing overwelmed. I use to take some time to tweaked my citra for mh4u, and it's perfect now. Don't hesitate to ask

Welp, seems this is officially the end for MH4U. I definitely should try to enjoy playing MH4U on my 3DS on the last final months and beating G-Rank before Nintendo shuts down the online servers for it.

As much as this sucks the possibility for “online” play in 4u is technically possible through emulation which could be a potential alternative

I mean, doesn't Nintendo/Capcom have a good track record of at least preserving games? They do close online functionality down a lot, but they are always trying to find ways for us to by the same game over again on newer hardware, in the form of remasters/remakes, or collections.

Not for every franchise they have. Re series is the only one with an ideal track record. Monster Hunter to this day only ever got one remaster (mhGwii and even that was just to try out the Wii architecture for Trii) Although the downloadable page for events quests are still available to this day (yes you can still download the event quests of freedom 1) so at least that they still kept alive 😅

meh, I migrated to citra. The only Issue is I don't have the DLC but meh, still have my 3ds and my Mh4U but have no idea how to take the dlcs out. Discord Invite expired oh well.

@HeyJayOfficial if it was just a little more faster without skills I'd be happy but removing it would change how the game would be played instead of leaving the intensity of the battle or "I left the oven on in zone 2" you could stay in the battle plus when I played GU when I fainted because of the flex it feels like a bullshit death because in no other game is the healing animation that slow but other then that I loved GU Great Sword never felt so good and I love Monster Hunter

@clankfish in no other game is the healing animation that slow and if I get hit because of the flex it's a bullshit hit/faint because there's nothing I could do to prevent it in gen 5 if I faint it rarely is bullshit and flexing ruins the intensity of the fight you have to run away and heal and get back in the fight gen 5 you stay in the fight to heal keeping the intensity and you could then in return make the monsters more intense gen 5 doesn't rot people's brains flexing does

​@@harveyquinn7961 in gen 4 and earlier you just look for an opening, usually after a monster attacks, to heal. this was great game design, you actually had to think. you don't have to run away to another zone if you're good enough. in gen 5 you can heal whenever you want, there's zero chance you're gonna get punished for it, it's stupid. it's just a skill issue, dude, git gud.
