As of 3/4/2024 Citra has been taken down because of a lawsuit between Nintendo and yuzu (switch emulator). This resulted in yuzu being forced to shut down and because a lot of the yuzu devs have worked on Citra they decided to shut Citra down.

Lemonade is another repack of Citra that is easily downloadable and is basically a mirror. Alternatively you can still download the Citra nightly build with an easy google search.

About build naming convention: usually, stable, beta and alpha means planned build, nightly means automatic build, and canary means manually ordered build. It has to do with how large scale software is developed, as there exists tools that automatically build (compile) the source code from a git/svn repo using all the most recent changes, so that software tester can test whatever bug exists, but in the case that you need the absolutely newest build, you build it yourself and that makes a canary build (named after that canary is raised in mines to sense low oxygen aka hazard), and giving that it's rather slow to build large software, this is only done when there are important changes that aren't in the latest nightly build. And if open source software only have nightly and canary release, then it's effectively stable and beta, unless you actualy get a nightly version every single day (unless it doesn't compile). There's still potentially a difference though, that is, giving that nightly and canary is indeed for debugging, it could be built using the less efficient debug profile, but it could also be that the released version is built using the release profile with the nightly snapshot of the same name. Either way, when in doubt, just build it yourself (especially on Linux where toolchain is easier to install).

Realize this came out quite a while ago but a PSA: If you're using an AMD GPU with Windows, Citra doesn't really work. Unfortunately they're the only emulator devs to not support Vulkan, so games like MH4U won't run well regardless of how good your specs are. Your only options are to switch to an Nvidia GPU or to switch to Linux. PS: There are ways of running Linux without replacing Windows as your main OS (dual boot, boot from USB, etc). This is obviously not an easy solution, but thought I'd mention it nonetheless.

While this was absolutely true, these days it's absolutely okay to run OpenGL on AMD GPU using windows, at least I didn't have any problem using my RX580 since I bought it in november (and it was my biggest worry), I remember opengl emulators like Ryujinx being unplayable on AMD GPUs

MH3U and MH4U were my first titles, and I only spent maybe 2 dozen hours in 3U and about 150hrs into 4U (the game I really got into to start my MH career...) I ended up spending hundreds of hours into gen ultimate, world, rise... but never went back. So this is the perfect solution for me. Eshop is dead, waiting for MH6, dumped my 3U/4U and now I'm using my 3ds as a rudimentary switch with this stellar PC look. I am so amped to grind. Being able to use Checkpoint to bring my save back and forth between platforms is a riot portable AND HD options

This video ACTUALLY worked for me! Only thing I'd say is if you get roms, they must be decrypted first! I'm going to play some MH4U with my friends, thank you so much!

I actually tried this once to use the Steam Controller on Kid Icarus Uprising. The only issue was that for some reason, you cant just set the analogue stick to act like an analogue stick. Maybe I was missing something, but I couldnt get it to work :(

Still, after 3-ish years this tutorial was helping me a lot, thanks! worked like a charm, can't explain it better than in the video!

between this game and monster hunter generations i put 1200+ hours into them on my n3ds, and managed to break one of the buttons (x) through sheer use.

Yes it is, actually! I've been able to do it on my system. I didnt cover it here because it's not entirely necessary and most people aren't going to care right away. There are directories for "bonus data" or something along those lines for citra games. Basically, SD card data. Which is where the DLC quests go. You'll basically just download the quests on a real 3ds, then take those quests off the sd card and place the data into the directory I mentioned earlier. You'll need to do a bit of research onto where it is exactly on the SD card, since I dont know it off the top of my head. But the information is out there and readily available! Good luck!

I usually recommend controllers by 8bitdo. I have the Pro 2 and its served me well for the past few years. However, I'm starting to get stick drift on it. One Day I'll get a kit to put Hall effect sticks in it but just know I'm having this issue

OK SO I need a bit of help, when ever I boot up the game, the menues at hte start are fine, but once I'm in the game (Past the character and palico creator) everythings either in half speed or lower, and I can't figure out how to fix it... Edit, I fixed it, but I don't know how... ^w^;

ist probably my potato laptop ( Intel UHD Graphics, Intel Core i3, 12g ram ) but when i run the game with the lowest graphics it runs ok until i turn the game camera to moving stuff ( monsters, small monsters, people, palicos ) then the game starts to lag . i dont knew if the fact that i loaded my 300 hours of saves from my 3ds in citra has anything to do with it but my best guess is that my device is the problem.... oh and great video !

This really revealed to me how bad my pc is. I've tried making the graphics as bad as possible to increase framerate and can get a maximum of about 12fps

I tried this, but whether or not the texture is applied is very hit or miss, for some reason. The UI works, for example, and the monsters seem to work, I think, but the character models, weapons and other things don't work. How do I fix this? Am I supposed to get all of the individual texture files outside of their folder structures or something? Why won't this work for me?

how do i know my version of monster hunter 4 is in update v1.1 because when i use the cheat code it doesnt do anything

I got the game working but I'm finding I have some pretty nasty input delay. I'm personally using a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller on Windows... through Bluetooth... through Steam... so there's lots of places where the delay could be coming from. What controller do you use and what method? Wonderful video, it helped a ton with the setup.

8bitdo pro 2 directly to Citra. Mostly wired but Bluetooth occasionally. Honestly a better controller than switch pro NGL. But I've used the switch pro directly into Citra before so I'd recommend first trying to cut steam out of the equation. Their controller mapping tech is a godsend but troubleshoot why it might be delayed before you throw any money down on a controller lol

I just looked up the controller you mentioned (and cried at the price-tag but it’s worth it for MH) and it looks a bit goofy to hold, maybe like an old Dualshock controller. Are you finding it feels comfortable in your hands? And the latency on this one is better than other controllers you tried? (like the aforementioned Pro Controller)

It's my favorite controller period. And the playstation layout is fine for me because the D-pad on that controller is excellent. So I can use it for 3D games and 2D games just fine. I got used to it after a bit lol. Again, make sure your controller works it's best before you spend money. I recommend going wired on the switch pro and all that

atp im so lost. everytime i click open custom texture location it just opens up my files and shows me the downloaded HD files and thats it. It doesn't let me move them anywhere or anything. Can anyone help?

what happening if its 60fps but the game ran like slow motion during gameplay? MH4U

I know its an older vid so I probably wont get an answer but I got a problem. Im running this on an rtx 3070 i9 12900 setup and the game runs locked at 60 fps 6x native with neither game speed or framerate going down from what I can see in Citra's monitoring. The problem is that even if the game shows as locked 60, during some random parts the game looks and feels as if it switched to 30 fps for a moment. I can visually see the movement of the monster getting less smooth and slower even if citra doesn't show any sign of a slowdown in the monitoring. It's gotten me killed a few times while fighting Seregios. Yet I don't see other videos of MH4U on Citra having this problem.

I'll be honest, I've never seen this phenomenon before. My best guess would be maybe your monitors refresh rate, if it's going above 60. If that's the case, try locking your monitor to 60hz. Other than that, I got nothin. I wish you luck in trying to fix it!

I am in fact trying to run this on my laptop at home. but my laptop has a 3090, so I think we're good.

For some reason the Emulator will not let me change the SFX volume.

If you still can't download it try underclocking the CPU Clock Speed. I noticed a huge boost in Game speed when I lowered mine from 100% to 15%

@@maxs3444 Before you start the game, go to emulation, then configure, then system. You will see a CPU Clock Speed scale that you can change. Depending on your PC the performance boost or lag decrease will vary so try to find the right one. For my PC, underclocking the speed by reducing it from 100% to 10% OR 15% works well with the game. I also play with Default screen and Native resolution

Is your copy of the game from a different region? The 1.1 update I provided is for the US version. So it wouldn't be able to install on a European copy, for example.

I would assume that comes down to preference. I have big hands so I don't really like playing on a 2DS for long periods of time. I can really only use the XL consoles nowadays. But since I emulate that's not an issue for me anymore! If you like the 2DS then you like it. You dont have to defend your preference

Have you tried running the game at native resolution? Also, double check citra's minimum specs. Idk exactly what you're running, so you should make sure that you at least meet citra's minimums

@@PaV_Live For now it's all I got and have had for a year now, my new pc still needs 2 parts to even run. And atm they're on a hold after my graphics card finally came. I guess I could fumble around and see what I can find, I'd assume you could make it happen if you can manage to get switch games running on phones. Actually I found something apparently if you have a snapdragon 600+ in your phone you should actually be good, very neat I just don't know how I'd handle the patches besides running at 60.

I'm just trying to get that 1.1 update man, I lost this game along with my 3ds years ago at a hotel. I can't for the life of me find the update ANYWHERE.

Yeah, you can set controls to whatever you want. You'll have to set the buttons manually in the controls tab. I would HIGHLY recommend you get a controller, though. Even a cheapo wired knock-off xbox controller would do lmao. (Tho if you're ok with spending $50, I recommend the 8bitdo SN30 Pro 2. That's genuinely a forever controller)

it's been a minute since I've done this but if I remember correctly: You'll need to download the data from either your SD card or an online repository, and place those files into the virtual SD card directory that Citra creates for your games. You should be able to access that by right clicking your game and hitting a button that says "SD card folder" or something along those lines. If that's not correct, there should be more detailed explanations elsewhere. Hope that helps!

The icon cites displays before the game boots will say ver1.1

I'd still suggest you try to mod your 3ds! It's very easy to do and it's basically impossible to break it. Just be sure you're following the website exactly. You'll never know if you can or can't do it until you try!

So, the 1.1 update needed for everything is hard to acquire, don't wanna catch a virus from those shady websites. I've got the EU version of the game, can anyone point me in the right direction of where I should look?

Am I the only one who did this and now sees cows in the sky?

I have no idea where to put the v1.1 update and searching the internet gets me nothing but mobile versions

Ya dont need to place it in any specific folder. Just drag the file onto the citra window and itll install it

You dont. You dump the game using your own legally obtained copy and 3ds console
