KalamitY 1995 Don't comment if you don't know what you're talking about.The barrel of the MG42 needs to be replaced after continuously firing it for 100-150 rounds to avoid damage.The replacement took 5-7 seconds.1500 rounds per minute is extrememly high and so the barrel would overheat quickly

Are you dumb? That is historically accurate. They literally had to make modifications to the gun in ww2 because it kept misfiring so much with its fire rate that it was shooting bullets BACK AT THE PERSON SHOOTING THE GUN. Meaning that that fire rate is accurate. The fire rate was lowered to around 850-900 rpm from its original 1250 to 1500 rpm

To be fair, their previous depictions of the MG-42 (most of them at least) in the other games before CoDWWII was accurate, apparently the CoDWWII version was dumbed down for "balance", funny too cause when you pack-o-punch it in zombies on CoDWWII the gun sounds like it really should. I think Day Of Infamy is better if you are talking about power. It probably wouldn't be literally bouncing out of its bipod like in RO but they're both probably the best on there.

Based on my experience of actually firing the damn thing (or, to be more precise, the rechambered LMG 3 NATO version, which is 99% identical to the original), Day of Infamy is absolutely the closest in terms of sound when using live ammo, as well as the rather low amount of muzzle flash in daylight (with live ammo). Red Orchestra simulates the barrel change, which is nice, but the sound is a bit off and the belt doesn't disintegrate like that, nor does the spent casings fly forward (or to the side) like that, they simply drop out under the gun. It's hard to find a real life video with the MG 42 sounding like it actually does in real life, because microphones tend to muffle the sound and clip the highest pitched sounds in particular, making the sound too deep.

1:18 day of infamy and RO2 are the best , COD WW2 is a disgrace to MG42 , like if you agree !

ruhid mohamad, search on youtube "WW2 German MG42 Machine Gun Test Fire" and compare this pitched-high sound of mg42 firing with the day of infamy's pitched-high firing , it's pretty close to reality but , i must agree with the people saying far cry 4 and RO 2 are better . I would say RO2 is superior to Far cry 4 in this case because animation and rate of firing are more accurate in RO2

The MG42 in Red Orchestra 2 made me appreciate how fundamentally different it was from other machine guns. Instead of guiding single rounds onto target, it spits a literal wall of lead at the enemy with every trigger squeeze. Precise aiming is hardly a necessity. Just put the crosshair vaguely on target and let the RPM and natural spread do the rest.

I use to play it

Damn, always been a fan of MoH: Airborne. It was SOOoooo ahead of it's time, with better: Graphics, Physics, Weapons, Sounds, Campaigns.. Hell, pretty much 90 % better than all former WW2 titles combined.. I still have a lot of respect for it today, because it made such a great impact on me.. Oh, and by far one of the best MG 42 sounds, along with RO2 ;-)

Far Cry 4 had the best MG42 sound and rate of fire so far, the only thing that is wrong is that strange grip on the side. Medal Of Honor Airborne also has a great sound.

I’m 4 years late but if I have to guess that it’s actually the bipod and not a weird grip

i thought far cry 4 and medal of honor airborne were the best, representing realistic sound and fire rate. as far as cod ww2 goes , it kind of shames the gun, the mg34 had faster fire rate than whatever the hell that was

Dethorath the sound makes me think of how the mg42 sounded like in Saving Private Ryan

Every single game captured the sound of the MG42 very well. *Except CoD WW2...which was SUPPOSED to be very accurate*

Very nice detail by the DEVS in Red orchestra 2 making you switch out your barrels when it gets it too hot. The Allies had 7 seconds to split before the Germans switched out those barrels.

Even Far Cry looks better than Cod Ww2

COD WW2 MG42 started to sound like a real MG42 only if you play this video 2x the speed.

Never heard of the game “forgotten hope” but god damn that one sounds the best by far, Red orchestra 2 is obviously up there too

I loved this gun in Far Cry 4. It wasn't until I started getting into firearms and learning about it to realize why.

When you think you have headphones in but you don’t get any sound from the headphones

the Brothers in arms mg42 gave me a ligit flashback when I was a kid and played BIA double time and Road to hill 30 On The Wii like over 8 years ago.

Red Orchestra 2 @ 1:55 sounds closest to the real thing. Even the barrel change and charging the weapon sounds are spot on. The visual is off though. Belt does not disintegrate and the brass ejects out the bottom. MOH Allied Assault @ 7:10 was the worst. That sounded like a Sten than a MG42. Also there was a M53 @0:58, @4:48 and a MG3 @3:13 in there being passed off as Mg42s, but that's splitting hairs.

The MG3 is so close in design to the MG42 that its essentially the same gun. It's quite literally an MG42 rechambered into 7.62 NATO. Some Bundeswehr machinegunners were issued MG3's that were literally just converted MG42's with their serial numbers restamped.

Imagine the amount of times this gun opened fire on Allied troops unexpectedly and the amount of times it mowed down POWs and civilians.. That sound must've been terrifying to the core knowing you'd have to clear it out.
